Please donate so this amazing clinic can get an X-ray machine.
This not only helps our rescue by offering us affordable options for all the animals we help but it will also help many rural dogs

This is a huge ask and a huge benefit we could use to further help our community and continue to keep vet costs affordable.

We are asking for help in gaining funds for a portable x-ray machine for the clinic. The estimated cost not including shipping is $20,000.

This would be incredibly helpful as we have to refer all x-rays to other clinics. Having one in house wouldn't only help out client's total vet bill, but would also help out rural and village living clients who often fly their pups to Anchorage for emergency/vital surgeries. They wouldn't have to make a pit stop at PetER or Northstar, the pup could come directly here and receive immediate care.

Let's get real for a second.

The world often paints a picture that dogs who live together are best friends and do everything together.

This is just not true. Many many many multidog household utilize management in different situations to allow dogs personal space to enjoy things such as:

- feeding time
- chew time
- play time
- attention time

This. Is. Normal.

Just because someone utilizes management, doesn't mean their dogs don't enjoy each other's company or have fun together. It just means that there are certain activities that they prefer to do on their own.

And I will tell you firsthand that implementing safe space zones and time apart can be so beneficial to the relationship between two dogs.

Think about it-- do you enjoy doing every single activity that you do at home with your spouse, family, or sibling RIGHT there? I don't think so.

So let's normalize management between dogs who live together!!

Udon is a handsome domestic short haired kitten with a orange tabby coat. We think he's going to be a big boy when he grows up, but currently he's only 3 months old.

Udon is a litter shy at first but he's a big cuddle bug and will purr so loud when getting lovings. He loves playing with kitty friends and it's highly recommended he has a young playmate to play with. He also enjoys a long scratching post and playing with toys. He's great with using the litter box. He's a little unsure about excited dogs but gets along with calm neutral dogs. He's such a cutie and is going to make a wonderful addition to someone's family.

He is up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, vetted and has a neuter scheduled and paid for by us.

Chunk/Joey is a bit of a shy dude at first but oh so incredibly sweet. He's getting lots of love at his foster with a dog friend and a young kiddo learning about how much kindness people can have and how fun they can be! He would do very well with a family that's happy to have a mostly at home companion with occasional walks. With lots of cuddles and toys to play with.
He is working on crate training, potty training and house manners with his foster.

Otis and Bucky getting a bath for the first time.
These two are brothers of Aslan, Bear, Holly and Grazer, we just picked them up along with brother Chunk who is with a foster now.

Thanks to one of our amazing fosters brilliant idea, this litter of 7 was named after the fastest bear contestants.

All have been adopted or are pending adoption except for Chunk (AKA Joey)..Pictures and bio for him coming soon.

Hello Elvis!

TL;DR

Elvis is a 3-4 month old German wirehaired Pointer puppy, he was left to fend for himself in the village and a good samaritan saved him.

This sweet boy is true to his breed, he's very active, outgoing and adventurous. He will need an experienced family, that can work with his high drive/motivation as these guys can become bored and destructive if not give appropriate outlets. He did have a small injury to his rear leg that has since healed but because of that we would like to wait to neuter to ensure he has the hormones to continue to grow and will have a neuter contract.

He's extremely intelligent and very food motivated, we have been working with him in some resource guarding and he's been doing very very good with it. But because of the resource guarding we don't recommend a household with small children.
He's been working really hard on potty training, grooming training, crate training and house hold manners.
Because he is a high drive/high prey drive breed we suggest caution be taken with cats, he's showing he can be trained to be with them but that training must continue to be cat safe.

Elvis has so much amazing potential and would work well in an active home or even as a potential hunting dog.

Elvis is up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed and will have a neuter contract w/neuter paid for by us at an older age.

After a long day yesterday, Buddy is home and recovering from anesthesia, good news from the vet as well!

We had him thoroughly examined, a dental, and assessed.

We did have to shave a small part on his neck area under his collar as there is still a spot where the wound hasn't healed.
We are keeping a close eye on it along with keeping it clean and giving it air to breath. So no collar for Buddy until that's healed.

His dental went smoothly, there is still one canine that maybe problematic in the future but as long as he doesn't break it further shouldn't be an issue. At this point it cannot be removed without causing more damage than good. His teeth indicated he's 7-8yrs old.

We are happy to report that we did not find bbs/pellets! This was one of our biggest concerns.

Unfortunately Buddy is showing signs of hip dysplasia, he will be on long term pain management/meds starting today. We are working closely with our vet to make sure he's on the right meds to make him feel better.

Buddy is also about 75% blind, it's assumed he can see blurred shapes/shadows but not much else from that. Caution must be taken while food is involved as he doesn't understand the difference between the shadow of a hand vs a treat/food because he smells the food he just can't see it well.

He is still underweight and we are working to deworm him and help up his weight slowly now that we have a proper weight of 58lbs.

He will be looking for the perfect place to call home, preferably someone with experience with caring for an older dog and understanding that old dogs can learn new tricks but sometimes it's a slower process.

Trying out something new 😄 to catch people's eye.

This is Elvis, he arrived a few days ago from the village.
We believe he's a German Wirehaired Pointer puppy, around 3 months old. We have some vetting to do still as there are concerns with his rear leg but overall he's a happy healthy boy.
He will be up for adoption soon, but will more than likely need an experienced owner.

Ohhhh goodness!

We need name ideas for these two boys.

These two adorable babies were found under someone's porch 🥺 they are extremely lucky to be alive.

They are about 7wks old, have gained a good amount of weight and are fighters!

They will be ready for adoption in a few more weeks after getting more vet care, vaccines, microchips, dewormed, altered. They are super friendly for babies born outside.

As we head into the holidays we want to talk about a few things.

Firstly, we have many animals needing furever homes!

Please consider adopting a pet from a rescue or shelter, they deserve to find good homes and are desperately waiting for their new families.

Be the change that the world needs right now.
Don't buy that puppy from the van parked in the Walmart parking lot, or that oopsy breeding for the 3rd time.... By taking those dogs/puppies you are supporting the choices of those who are irresponsible, you are condemning more dogs to that same fate.
By adopting from a reputable shelter/rescue you are supporting the people who work hard to make a difference.

Shop or adopt just do it responsibly.

If you choose to go to a breeder, buy from reputable breeders with a quality breeding program, with mindfulness when pairing dogs, health testing the parents, contracts set in place, standing behind their dogs no matter what, etc...
If you are unsure, we are more than happy to point you in the right direction of a reputable breeder.

We are exhausted, all rescues are utterly exhausted from the endless numbers of animals flooding our doors .. the countless calls we receive to surrender, the countless animals we have to turn away because we don't have space.
We, who work in rescue have such big hearts and it breaks our hearts to have to turn animals away... But we still try our hardest to help as many as we can, even when we ourselves are broken and falling apart from the constant horrors we see.

Be the change the world needs .. be the change that these animals need.

We want to take a moment to chat about some confusion that we often see regarding stray animals in the Mat-Su Borough 🐾

Many times, when someone finds an animal, we know they wish to hold onto the animal to try and avoid over burdening our shelter, or to take over ownership of an animal when efforts to find an owner has been exhausted.

We truly appreciate the generosity of our community, but also want to provide clarity on what Title 24 states (the code that governs Mat-Su Animal Care and Regulation) so that you are protected should you find an animal.

Regarding the Borough – if you are within city limits (Palmer, Wasilla or Houston) you will need to check with your local city’s ordinances as the below does not pertain to you. The information below is what legislation requires for found animals:

If you live in the Mat-Su Borough, per Title 24, ALL stray animals must come into the shelter for their stray hold and to allow the opportunity to be redeemed.

For animals without any identifying information, the stray hold is 3 days (72 hours) and animals with information connected to an owner (microchip, tag, etc.), the stray hold it is 5 days (120 hours).

We often see on social media people are stating that after 14, or 30, days they become “the” owner of the animal. There is NO timeline for a finder becoming the legal owner of an animal.

We want to make sure it is noted that in the Mat-Su Borough, this is not accurate and can still subject a finder to legal problems if/when the legal owner comes forward – no matter how long it has been since that animal had bypassed the requirement of Title 24.

Finders can also find themselves under scrutiny with Title 24 if they do not bring an animal into the shelter regarding 24.35.030 of the Title:

24.35.030 INTERFERENCE

(A) It is unlawful for any person to interfere with, hinder, or mo**st an animal care and regulation officer or agent of the borough in the performance of any of the duties under this title.
(B) It is unlawful for any person to remove or release any animal from the animal shelter, animal care and regulation vehicles, borough live animal traps, or from any other official custody of any animal care and regulation officer or agent of the borough without first obtaining permission to do so from the animal care and regulation office.
(C) It is unlawful for any person to hinder or interfere with any animal care and regulation investigation, reporting, or prosecution.
(D) An individual may lawfully detain any animal found in violation of the borough code, provided they immediately notify the animal care and regulation office and surrender the animal to an animal care and regulation officer.
(E) Violation of this section is an infraction.

This does not mean that the finder is not given the opportunity to adopt the animal they find – as long as we are following all appropriate steps written in legislation, finders are noted at time of drop off if they have a desire to adopt the animal they found.

Animals that are brought into our care as strays also receive vaccinations, deworming, spay/neuter, and microchipping before adoption – on top of any medical care that they may need. This allows us to ensure that the animal you found, and may be considering adoption of, is receiving appropriate care when you adopt from us.

Awesome news came in this morning - Schneiders/SS Tack got back to me and approved me as a retailer.

I’ve had several customers ask me to reach out to Schneiders and I’ve seen people on the animal Facebook groups inquiring how to get their dog jackets here in Alaska. I have a lot horse friends that love their products as well. We love when our rescue animals get everything they deserve and more 🥰
Miss Divine was adopted a few days ago.
She had an adopter waiting shortly after we announced we would be taking in all those Barrow dogs, so after vetting and clearing her for adoption her new family couldn't wait to bring her home and we can see it was the perfect home ❤️

Now let's get the rest of these lovely animals into their own furever homes with families who will spoil them!!
