Those of you that are boarding your dogs with me this week may already know, but we welcomed our 2nd grandchild on Sunday. I could never have been able to be in Columbus to help my son and daughter in law without the help of my amazing sister . She cut her vacation short, cancelled her own birthday plans, and flew from Florida to Ohio to stay at my house and take care of my dogs, and my kennel so I could be here. And of course, it’s Spring Break, and so busy, but she’s a rock star!!!You’ve only got one family, hold onto them tight. Welcome to the world, Sweet Everett!!!

Do you check your dogs on a regular basis for lumps and bumps? Weird things that weren’t there last month? I do, and I’m very thankful I do. Back in January, on the 14th, I was checking my dogs, and noticed a small lump on Olive’s underarm that hadn’t been there previously. I got her in to my vet the next day, and she decided it needed to come out. On Thursday it came out, and my wonderful vet didn’t like what she saw, so she sent it out to the lab. Came back as a Mast Cell Tumor 😭
Dr. Gebhart told me she takes these out all the time, and has over an 80% success rate. She got her stitches out, and 2 days later, another one appeared on the same leg, just on the outside of her shoulder. Another surgery, and off it came. The phone call came, another mast cell tumor. Olive had now developed 3 more. We were referred to Oncology at MedVet. Very long story short…
Early detection is the best prevention. This is a type of skin cancer in dogs, and hopefully, Olive 🫒 will live a healthy life.
