Just a taste of what breeders pay for just to produce a litter :

POTENTIAL OWNER: How much is the puppy?
BREEDER: $4,000
POTENTIAL OWNER: What?? It's way too expensive!!
BREEDER: What do you think would be a good price?
POTENTIAL OWNER: No more than $500. You breeders are so over priced.
BREEDER: I am sorry you see it this way, why don't you try it yourself?
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I've never done it!
BREEDER: For FREE I can teach you how to do it, and in addition you will have the knowledge to do it again.
POTENTIAL OWNER: Perfect, thank you!
BREEDER: To start you will need a female(average cost $4,000 and up). Also a male(average cost $4,000 and up) or semen (average $3,000 and up). You will need to do genetic & health testing on them, averages about $1,500 per dog. Raise and provide daily care, feeding & grooming for 2 years at an average of $600 per month each)
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I don't have that much money...

BREEDER: For $500 you can raise a litter for me and then keep one of the puppies. Obviously, you also have to pay the cost of whelping & care.
POTENTIAL OWNER: I can do that.
BREEDER: OK so I have a female due to whelp in 2 weeks. You will need to be available 24/7 around the clock for at least 8 weeks to help with delivery and care. Possibly tube or bottle feed puppies every 2-3 hours if the mom is low on milk the first couple weeks.
POTENTIAL OWNER: Eight weeks?? it's way too much time for me! I have to work.
BREEDER: You will also need the reproductive vet to do xrays($200-$500), ultrasound $250, possibly reverse progesterone testing($75-$250) & a C-section($1000-$5000) and initial vet care on pups until old enough to be placed. Pups vets exams and two sets of vaccines ($250 each assuming all puppies are healthy).
Have on hand a scale, thermometer, latex gloves, sanitizer, absorbent tissues, scissors, hemostats, heating pad, whelping box, blankets, cleaning supplies, appropriate food with supplements for mothers, formula, medications & hand feeding supplies in case of emergency....
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I don't have all these things!
BREEDER: For $4000 you can buy them.
POTENTIAL OWNER: Ummm .... You know, I think it might be better if I just buy a puppy.
BREEDER: Wise decision.

For us breeders there are no vacations or holidays, while you go to visit with family & friends we are home at our dogs side caring for them. It is a no breaks commitment.

THIS IS THE REALITY of a GOOD BREEDER!!

When you choose a professional, you don't only pay for the puppy but also: Tools, knowledge, experience, love, time, sacrifices, etc.

This question often pops up, and it's not as straightforward as it seems! Many people mistakenly label them as a “Malamute x German Shepherd Dog,” but this oversimplification is misleading, and simply wrong. This misconception likely arises from the fact that one of the outcross dogs introduced during the creation of the Shiloh breed included a single mixed breed stud dog with American Showline GSD, White Shepherd, and Malamute (MAW) ancestry.

So, what exactly are Shiloh Shepherds?

𝗜𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁, 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗵𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 “𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲” 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗱𝘀, 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟯𝟯 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘁 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱.

In 1974, the breed founder began developing a unique line of German Shepherds at Shiloh Shepherd Kennels in New York State. Her goal was to recreate the type of dog she remembered from her childhood in Germany: intelligent, mentally sound, big, beautiful, and excellent family companions—much like Chuck Eisenmann’s dogs from The Littlest Hobo. After years of breeding and training German Shepherds, she chose to start reviving the breed by using the Thuringer lines for intelligence and the mountain shepherd lines for size and soundness. It wasn't until 1991 that other breeds were carefully introduced to enhance specific traits, shaping the Shiloh lineage we know today.

As a breeder, one of the happiest moments of my job, is when a puppy is handed off to their new humans. Often tears of joy by their new people. And the puppy updates and pictures, and stories about their adult pup....his or her personality, funny things they've done, accomplishments. Which brings me to the saddest day as a breeder. When your puppy family let's you know their dog has crossed the rainbow bridge. In the past couple days, we have lost two. In loving memory of Khaleesi, aka The Dragon, out of our Vienna/Baxter 7/8/15 litter. She lived her best life with the Barios family.
And in loving memory of Winston, aka Winnie, from our Sasha/Merlin 11/3/13 litter. He lived his best life with the Hellbergs. 💔 Hugs and love to both families😥

Kimber/Cyrus puppies! 4 weeks and 3 days. Red girl is the darkest, purple girl has the really dark stripe down her back, and Orange girl is the lightest sable.

Taura is 15 years, 2 months and 6 days old today. She is the oldest Shiloh in history! Every day is her birthday at this age! Here's a pic of her in the bathtub yesterday. She enjoys her baths and the extra attention, though sometimes I'll ask her if she's ready for her bath and she'll do a play pounce and take off in the other direction. She still has her spiciness🤣
And a couple screenshots of our camera view of her walking the kennel hallway, making sure the youngsters are behaving. Taura is mom, grandma and great grandma of many of our Shiloh puppies out there.
