FUN FACT! Did you know that fans don't help to cool dogs? Fans cool humans by cooling the moisture we produce through sweating. Because dogs pant, fans don't do a lot to cool them down.

We're far from dog days just yet, but early spring is a good time to refresh on what we can do to keep our pets happy and healthy this summer! Michigan springs are volatile enough to plan for summer temperatures anyways!

Today is national Siamese Cat day!

feel free to share your Siamese kitties in the comments! :)

Most known for their striking markings and light coat (or perhaps their mischievous behavior in The Lady and The Tramp), these cats have been stealing hearts for centuries.

The Siamese cat is considered a natural breed, with no human intervention taking play in their colors. Speaking of their colors, did you know that Siamese come in 4 different variations? Comment if you know them!

They share their name with their place of origin, Siam, now known as Thailand. Their beautiful appearance and charm earned them cozy living with royalty in the 14th century.
It wasn't until the 19th century that the west would encounter these striking felines.
First showcased in the Crystal Palace Cat Show in London, its no surprise that they quickly became a desired, fashionable breed.
From there they grew to the icons they are.

They are known for being a social, chatty breed, and considered one of the more high maintenance breeds. This is due to their need for extra time, affection, and play. Though, the one Siamese I have met was perfectly content to laze on the couch and be unbothered. Every animal has their own personality after all.

April is Pet First Aid Awareness month. Started by the Red Cross to encourage animal lovers to learn how to be prepared in an emergency!

Whether you want to learn CPR, or just want to be prepared for when disaster strikes, I have some links here from the the Red Cross.

A PDF checklist for emergencies:https://www.redcross.org/content/dam/redcross/atg/PDF_s/Preparedness___Disaster_Recovery/Disaster_Preparedness/Home_Fire/First_Aid_Kit_for_Pets.pdf

An article on Tips for being prepared, as well as links to their CPR course and app: https://www.redcross.org/about-us/news-and-events/news/Pet-First-Aid-Awareness-Month-Get-the-Red-Cross-App.html

A link to their animal first aid app for your phone. Its an app I use myself. It has information from whats normal for your cat or dogs vitals, common illnesses, pet friendly hotels, tips on being prepared, vet hospital locators, and profiles for your pets so you can track their health easier.
