Today is national Siamese Cat day!
feel free to share your Siamese kitties in the comments! :)
Most known for their striking markings and light coat (or perhaps their mischievous behavior in The Lady and The Tramp), these cats have been stealing hearts for centuries.
The Siamese cat is considered a natural breed, with no human intervention taking play in their colors. Speaking of their colors, did you know that Siamese come in 4 different variations? Comment if you know them!
They share their name with their place of origin, Siam, now known as Thailand. Their beautiful appearance and charm earned them cozy living with royalty in the 14th century.
It wasn't until the 19th century that the west would encounter these striking felines.
First showcased in the Crystal Palace Cat Show in London, its no surprise that they quickly became a desired, fashionable breed.
From there they grew to the icons they are.
They are known for being a social, chatty breed, and considered one of the more high maintenance breeds. This is due to their need for extra time, affection, and play. Though, the one Siamese I have met was perfectly content to laze on the couch and be unbothered. Every animal has their own personality after all.
