Our Story
We are a family that loves the versatile hunting breeds, in particular the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. Our first Griff, Uplands Beast (Rex), came home in 2003. At the time our three daughters were ages 7, 5 and 3. They formed an instant bond with Rex, he became just one of the kids; the wired, hairy one! At the request of the breeder I joined the North Central Wisconsin NAVHDA Chapter, met many great people with the same hunting interests and tested Rex to NA 112 Prize I and UT 176 Prize II. Rex was indeed a beast when it came to upland and waterfowl hunting. He was also a willing participant getting dressed up, or cuddling up with three young girls for a movie.
In 2006 we added Twin Creek Abby. Abby may be the sweetest dog I’ve ever met. Yet, her drive to hunt was (and is) off the charts. Whether it be the grouse woods in Wisconsin, the fields in North Dakota or the big muddy hunting ducks, Abby was full speed ahead.
In 2015 we lost Rex unexpectedly. With the prospect of a having one dog just past her peak I called Gary Engebretson of Firebird Kennels to inquire about a pup from his well known line. I was in luck. Gary had just bred his VC Champions Tommy and Nina and I was able to post a deposit. Enter Firebirds Electra (Ellie) to our family. Ellie fit right in to our lifestyle. She has tested NA Prize III and UT Prize II 192. She has an exceptional medium dense and harsh coat and excels in the grouse woods, the pheasant fields, and retrieving ducks and geese in land or water. When I made a decision to breed Ellie I contacted Gary and he had a perfect pairing in mind with a dog he has trained, Alibi’s Fritz Wiesemann (Fritz). Fritz qualified for the 2019 NAVHDA Invitational with a UT 199 Prize 1. He has a dense and harsh coat and excels in the woods and fields each fall before spending winter as the club guide dog at his Louisiana duck club. We expect the pairing to produce some really great pups and I’m very fortunate to be working with one of the best trainers and Griff breeders in Gary.
