"Ctrl+S" is an initiative started in Dec 2013 by an independent group of public health professionals, physicians, and professors with the goal of providing knowledge to the general public in Iran, and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regarding sexually transmitted diseases, and sexual health in general. The prevalence of these diseases is growing in the MENA region and it is becoming increa
singly important that people at risk gain awareness of how STDs are transmitted, treated, and most importantly how they can be prevented. We educate the public through on-site workshops and our website along with social media outlets in an interactive, private, and non-judgmental manner. Through these resources we hope that anyone with questions or symptoms can gain comprehensive knowledge of prevention methods and how to access the necessary medical care
During the past two years, the Ctrl+S team has achieved the following:
• Development of a multilingual website (www.CtrlSTD.com) in Farsi and English (Arabic to come soon!) with thorough and extensive educational material on sexually transmitted diseases
• Development of social media channels to target the adolescent population: Facebook, Instagram (. Taaj), and Telegram
• A free hotline that allows people to anonymously ask their questions about sexual health and medical doctors in the US will reply to them in less than 24 hours.
• Over 25 in-person workshops on different aspects of sexual health in three different cities of Iran, attracting a total of 1500 people
• Press releases in three of the most influential newspapers and magazine in Iran (روزنامه ایران، روزنامه سپید، مجله زنان امروز)
• A formal presentation at the 6th Annual Conference on Family and Sexual Health in Dec 2015 in Tehran
• An estimated total reach of over 12,000 people since Mar 2015
Ctrl+S has also realized that there is a pressing need for education in other dimensions of sexual health in Iran and in the greater MENA as well. Thus, it has decided to grow its services to encompass child sexual abuse, puberty, women's reproductive health, and sexual health in general. The new services will include:
• Expansion of the website and social media educational content
• Translations to Arabic
• More in-person workshops
• Design of educational packages for adolescents in Tehran's district-1 orphanages of Ministry of Welfare and Social Security
