Ebony Jan Dales Pony It's 2017 and this 2001 model purebred Dales pony broodmare is beginning a new chapter. Follow the Jan is a 2001 imported Dales pony mare. She was bred by Mr. P.

Bell out of Ebony Star and by Ebony Duke. Jan came to Get Grounded Equine in May 2016, traveling over 3,000 miles from New York to Eugene, Oregon. Three days after her arrival, she delivered a lovely filly by Thornville Dan. The Dales pony breed is very rare and listed on the Livestock Conservancy's Critical Endangered list. This means there are less than 200 annual registries in the U.S. and a t

otal global population less than 2,000. In the past few years, many U.S. importer/breeders have dispersed and closed their programs. Jan is a lovely, very well put together mare and we hope to utilize her in contributing a few more nice foals to the breed. We are all also committed to Jan's long term future in seeing that she has riding/working skills that will carry her beyond her mothering years. This way, Jan will have opportunities to publicly promote the breed. Some have told me it could be a challenge to train a broodmare so late in her years. Broods are often leaders who are used to making their own decisions. It will be interesting to see if I can develop Jan into a thoughtful working partner. This page will journal Jan's life and progress as she finds her way with us.
