Mica has arrived for a 4 week Board and Train. He is a pushy guy that knows his size! However he is also a total goof. We will be working on some basic manners while he is here. Stay Tuned!

Well our board and train break is over, and Aurora is the first dog as we get back in to the grove. Aurora can be dog and human reactive and is overall alert of her surroundings. We will be working on Aurora not being as stimulated by her environment and teaching her that she doesn’t have to be on alert all the time. So far she has been settling in great and I will be excited to share her progress. (P.S I know her Ecollar slid down in this photo so don’t come for me ok.🤣)

This is Bella. She was Adopted at PACC and her owners signed her to get a good foundation after adopting her and get help with some fear reactivity. She can be a bit unsure at times but we worked hard at boosting her confidence and exposing her to new situations. Videos to come :) dogtrainingsierravista

This is Hank. An 8month old standard poodle that just spent 3 weeks with me to learn some general manners. He was a rambunctious dude so in the begging learning to be still was hard but it got easier as we progressed. I know you hear me talking about working on calmness or being still a lot. That is because this is almost always a skill that dogs coming in for training lack. They are use to being busy and their mind always engaged not knowing how to just exist. So we started off Hank is a young guy starting on the right path to learning the skills that will make his and his owner’s relationship more enjoyable.

The dog that started it all. 12 years ago I was in the road to becoming a veterinarian. Then she walked actually ran into my life full force. Even though I had already been working as a kennel tech, vet tech, and in dog boarding and thought I knew about dog behavior she came along to show me having a clear line of communication is so important to having a relationship with a dog like her. A VERY SMART DOG with her own agenda. She was the complete opposite of my first dog who just wanted to be with me and participate in what ever activities we were doing together. While she never struggled with aggression or more serious behavior issues she struggled with the issues that most of you struggle with today. She would bolt with a terrible recall, she chewed my dry wall, would jump on people, and was an absolute hyper nut in the house. However, she is the most incredible,most stable dog I have ever had. We just had to learn to communicate. I appreciate her everyday and she has become my biggest aid in helping the dogs that come though my programs. She is truly one of a kind. dogtrainingsierravista

Winni had a great time on her hike this morning. As I mentioned before Winni can be a bit fearful. Getting outdoors and moving is a great activity to do with fearful dogs. In my own personal experience I find that this is where these dogs thrive and gain the most confidence. There is still rules and structure and I am still providing feed back when needed. But being outside I feel that fearful dogs don’t feel as pressured as being indoors during the first phases of training. Now this doesn’t always have to be a full on hike sometimes it’s as simple as going out and working in the yard. dogtrainingsierravista

Next up is Ava who lives with Winni. She is energetic with the right amount of sass and equal parts cute. However, her sass has lead her to make not so great choices with reactivity.I will be working to address her reactivity and make better choices. Stay tuned for more on this cutie pie. I don’t think I had mentioned that Mille had come all the way from the San Diego area as well. I am always so appreciative that people are willing to travel to work with me. This little guy is Zen. He is another Client all the way from sunny San Diego. Zen is working on some general manners and some anxious behaviors that have led to him not making the best decisions. Zen is a unique situation as he actually has been working with a trainer who also happens to be a friend of his family and a friend of mine. His trainer does not offer board and train programs which she felt he and his owners could greatly benefit from. So she recommended that they send him on down my way. What is great about this is that when he returns home he will have an amazing support system. He also had an amazing foundation to build off of when he arrived. I love being able to collaborate with another trainer in such a beneficial way for Zen and his family.

Took Millie to La Encontada yesterday with my friend and her dog Jaxon to get some work in with lots of distractions. Boy did we get the kitchen sink! There was dogs, lots of trash cans rolling back and forth due to a remodel. We even had a baby try and sneak up behind us. They both handled it like a couple of champs. As you can see in the video we did a lot of down stays working on just coexisting with the environment. Having a dog hang out in a down may not be the most fancy training but it holds so much value! If you want to have a dog that you can take anywhere you need to teach them that they can exist calmly with their environment and that they don’t always need to engage with it.

It was windy and cold out so we had a relaxing day training in doors. Millie did not complain one bit about this decision. 🤣. Based on her face I’de say she was on board with this decision.

Took a trip to HomeDepot to work on some exposure with miss Millie. There was plenty of distractions and quite a few dogs. I like working at HomeDepot because the wide isles allow me to have plenty of control over my dogs space while still working in a busy environment.

No this is not Remy supersized 😉 this is Maggie the standard poodle puppy working at the local park. She has come such a long way from the pushy puppy that knew her size and how to push it around to the polite pup that knows how to mind her manners.

Working on “under” with Remy. This teaches him to go under the chair and hang out when he is at restaurants coffee shops etc. While I have helped him out by luring him with food in the begging. You also will notice that I have a blanket under the chair. Since he has learned the “place” command having the blanket there will not only make him more comfortable but give him something familiar that he can target.

Maggie saw Santa at Ace Hardware yesterday. ;) my local Ace has been amazing about letting me take my dogs in for training, the staff is always respectful and nice.
