Here are a few highlights from our fabulous on-farm field days in 2023! From fruit tree care 🌳🍎to exploring essential tools for small farms 🚜🌾 , we collaborated with experts in our network to offer hands-on learning opportunities where farmers and growers could learn new skills and connect.
📣We’re excited to announce that we’ll be hosting another series of field days this season!
🌱Stay tuned as we share more opportunities to learn and grow together!
We are thrilled to share our experience of growing and harvesting corn for the first time! Thanks to our farm team and volunteers at the Black Butterfly Teaching Farm, we were able to plant and harvest 7,000 sq. ft. of a Dent Corn variety called “Rebellion”. After our harvest in November, the corn was then processed by our friends at Next Step Produce. Farmer Heinz used his specialized machinery to thresh, clean, and mill the corn before packaging it. Keep an eye out for our Baltimore-city grown corn meal, grits, and flour for sale!
Our team is excited to conduct deeper research on sustainable and profitable methods of growing legumes and grain crops in the coming year. Special thanks to Farmer Heinz at Next Step Produce for his equipment & expertise and the @northeastsare Farmer Grant program for making this project possible!
We’ve received $5,000 in donations since announcing our giving campaign, which means we’re halfway to our $10,000 goal! Just look at how many faces and farms you’ve helped support 💚
Thank you to all who have given so far. Your individual donations help sustain our diverse programming and ultimately strengthen Baltimore’s network of urban growers.
We only have about a dozen days left until the end of the year. Will you help us reach our giving goal? This is our final push! #givebacktourbanfarmers
