All companion animals are special
This has always been true for me
Whether I thought I rescued them
Or truly believed they rescued me -
Every once in a while though
Like that occasional Blue Moon
A very exceptional one comes along
That no doubt was meant for you -
You may not have been looking
There may have been others at home
But for some reason this one has reached out to you
And you know you must answer their call -
Your life may already be busy
Your heart may feel already full
But this one that is now calling
Has touched something deeper than all -
Some days and some nights might be trying
But this does not matter at all
For this one has connected so deeply
Embedded themselves in your soul -
Some may say soul mates are for people
And from people to people they go
But they've never had a pet soul mate
So you really can’t expect them to know -
A pet soul mate like a great lover
Knows your needs, your wants, your dreams
They carry them with them always
And watch over you while you sleep -
They comfort you when it is needed
Even if you don’t know it to be so
Licking away your tears, kissing your booboos
Or just sitting with you all day long -
They go wherever you are going
Never asking the where or the why
Their only desire to bring out your smile
Put a twinkle in your eye every day -
They may occasionally ask for a thing or two
But for what they give it’s never that much
A biscuit, a bone, some time with you alone
A dry comfy bed and such -
So if you are lucky enough to hear the call
Of a companion animal just for you
Don’t pass it by Please answer it
It’s a love story meant for two -
The time together is never long enough
But oh the adventures will make you glow
They always seem to know the right time for love
Even if they don’t know the word no -
All your friends and family will adore them
All your other pet friends and babies will too
But only you and your pet soul mate will know
How deep the special bond between you two -
So love each other hard and strong while here
Everyone, human and animal all
Hold them close in their final moments
Breathe them in deep – release – look inside
Your pet soul mate will always be embedded in your soul -
