We love having Austin MacLeod- Professional Farrier on staff for many reasons including; his willingness to share his expertise and knowledge with our clients, his gentle and patient demeanor with our patients, and his stellar horsemanship. He's taking new clients. Even if you use another vet, once you're on Austin's books you're automatically considered a client of ours as well! We know you'll love having him as a farrier. He's American Farriers Education Council Certified and a graduate of Pacific Coast Horseshoeing School. Farm calls or here at our clinic, Austin would be happy to take care of your horses.

I'm so excited to share! For those of you already on my schedule, your appointments just need to be confirmed, and Tori will get you set up

We are proud to announce that Austin MacLeod- Professional Farrier now works exclusively for our practice! We have worked with Austin for 4 years on numerous cases, both in Oregon and California, and trust his level of care and attention to detail. Austin is taking on select new clients (you don't have to be one of our clients, but you will be in our system) and is available at our clinic or your farm. Current Austin clients: nothing has changed in your care, we are just handling the scheduling and billing from now on so you call us to make an appointment. Also, we continue to work with all farriers in our region, and do not exclude anyone, we just love that we can offer a one-stop-shop for our clients, rehab and podiatry cases. We can also send Austin out to you if you're in a jam! Call us to get on Austin's farrier schedule 541-636-1191.

Just as a reminder, I am often booked out several weeks in advance. I make my schedule as I see the horses on my books.
If you're not making an appointment when we get settled up, I cannot guarantee that the day before theyre due I will be able to get you on my schedule.

Just a big gentle giant.
I'm back to work now, and almost caught up. As the weather gets colder, appointments move both later and earlier to keep warm and keep driving conditions safe.
Are you ready for winter?

So it looks like for the most part I'm down until October.
I'll be trying my best to accommodate all of you who are due.
I will be taking on my *easy* horses, as any jostling or pulling hurts a lot until my revision surgery is healed. Luckily it's not too far off.
I appreciate your patience as I heal. It's very frustrating to not be able to work, I love my job and the freedom it gives me.

Unfortunately I am back in the hospital, again. I've been down since Wednesday, I likely won't be able to work for a few days more. If I missed contacting you feel free to reach out.
I'm itching to get back to work but unfortunately my body isn't wanting to cooperate

Edit to add: looks like I'll be here until Tuesday.

The two best things you can do for your horses feet are: taking the time to train your horse to pick up and hold their feet, have them trimmed regularly.

Excessive length causes massive amounts of strain on all of the soft tissue in the limb and makes it hard for the horse to move comfortably. A horse that is hard to work on will suffer as well.

Please remember nails in your horses foot need to be seen/evaluated by a vet before pulling!
Theres a lot of sensitive structures in the hoof and without knowing what is affected, can cause more damage by pulling the nail prior to evaluation.
Proper procedure upon finding a foreign object in the foot is to ensure it won't be driven in further (blocking the foot up around the object so it doesn't contact the ground) and calling your vet and farrier both.
(This horse was sound, nail removed at vets advise, and went on his merry way)
(Not a horse I service.)

Hey all, unfortunately I'll have to pause appointments as I tested positive for covid.
I'm feeling fine but for the safety of my clients, until I test negative I'll only be offering no contact appointments for easy horses or postponing until I get negative test results.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Sometimes progress is slow.
On average it takes a year grow a new hoof from the cornary band to the ground. Keeping your farrier on a good schedule and maintaining the hoof through husbandry will make for the easiest recovery path for your horse.
