OUR HORSES
We raise horses primarily to work on our cattle ranching operation. Ranching in our part of the world is rustic, with our cowboys typically riding two half-day circles from headquarters or camp. Our horses are ridden – rather than trailered – to and from even the furthest pastures. They cover country in tough weather, and across diverse geography, footing, and vegetation; and, they must do so in a manner that is comfortable and safe for our crews. Forward movement and stamina are must-haves for our horses, as are the size and athleticism to – when necessary, and sometimes after a long day – catch, rope, and hold the brahma-cross cattle our environment and clients demand. And we like our horses to be pretty. So, we strive to breed for horses that are conformationally correct; athletic; sound and healthy; that have good minds, plenty of size and athletic ability; that are fun to ride, can get a full day's work done on the ranch, and that are attractive to look at from the ground or saddle. We are firm believers in the value of linebreeding, then crossing differently-line-bred individuals to enable hybrid vigor as part of a planned breeding program. Our horse babies are born and raised outside in the late winter or spring, where they learn to cover country, make their way through hills, rocks, heavy brush, and across rivers, and develop the bone, minds, and muscle that will be required of them to be sound horses later in life. This same management also keeps our riding and breeding age horses healthy, sound, and happy. Though we handle our young horses frequently and they are friendly, people loving animals, we rarely keep horses inside. Most of our mares and stallions double as riding horses. OUR MARES
Breeding programs are built on mares. We started our breeding program selecting mares, and then identifying stallions that complemented those mares. Our initial broodmare band included groups of mares that were distinctively bred for speed, all-around work (as opposed to show-arena all around), or halter. Over the years, we’ve retained our favorite fillies for the broodmare band, while also adding additional all-around, racing, and western performance-bred mares that were bred similarly to the mares that were performing best under saddle and as breeding stock. Our race bred mares’ pedigrees included the bloodlines of First Down Dash, Streakin Six, Easy Jet, Dash for Cash, and Go Man Go. Our halter mares were daughters and/or granddaughters of the standout horses of the 1980s and 1990s that proved themselves to be consistent producers of balanced, pretty, well-muscled, athletic horses with the frame needed to do a day’s work. You will find names like World Champions and/or World Champion Sires Mr. Conclusion, Impressive, Ima Cool Skip, Western Impress, Perpetration, and Reserve World Champion and World Champion Sire Coosa up close in the pedigrees of the mares we added in the 1990s. The all-around type mares have pedigrees that include many great horses from Hank Wiescamp’s Hall of Fame program, including Skipping Duino, Skip N Union, Skippo Wrack, Skips Stat, etc. They are most definitely the “riding type”. Most of our broodmares double as riding horses. STALLIONS
The stallions we originally used combined then-World Champion halter breeding with renowned performance bloodlines; our reference stallions sport the bloodlines of Mr. Conclusion, Kid Clu, Coosa, Western Impress, Sir Quicy Dan, and Jackie Bee. (http://goo.gl/UpwELQ)
We went on to cross their daughters with Sophisticated Duino (http://goo.gl/FRkfga), who was sired by the great Skipping Duino, and Heza Feature Mr Jess (http://goo.gl/gBSTVb) who is a son of Feature Mr Jess. Prior to his premature demise, Feature Mr Jess was perhaps the most promising young sire in quarter horse racing; and, Heza Feature Mr Jess is by Pretty N Fast, producer of the NTR-setting Fast Azyoucansee (SI 117). We subsequently included the genetics of SEVEN S SIX SHOOTER (https://tinyurl.com/5n5h4p5d), from the highly-decorated breeding program at the Stuart Ranch in Oklahoma (www.stuartranch.com). Additionally, we used DUINOS COSARI KID (https://tinyurl.com/3wn48efx), a home-bred stallion whose get are the fifth generation of his family to be on our ranch. In 2020, we were blessed to add SEVEN S FIREWATER (https://tinyurl.com/y2zpcysc) to our breeding program. Born and bred on the Stuart Ranch, we consider Firewater a genetic treasure: he brings the magic cross of Leo/Sugar Bars, up close, in both the top and the bottom of his pedigree. More specifically, Firewater is from the AQHA Hall of Fame mare family developed so skillfully at the Stuart Ranch. Firewater’s dam is a proven producer, as well as a full sister to the winners of over 2,100 AQHA points, an AQHA Superhorse title, four AQHA High-Point All Around awards, and numerous additional accolades. You’ll find a lot of black type on the bottom side of Firewater’s pedigree (https://tinyurl.com/yhmp82tm). And, Firewater is by Firewater Canyon. Firewater Canyon is a son of all-time great barrel sire Firewater Flit, and the great performer – and ˜$1M producer – Mulberry Canyon Moon. Seven S Firewater is a stallion for those who – like us – believe that great stallions have great mothers, and that great pedigrees are built on great mares. Firewater's pedigree is comprised of multiple generations of great-producing mares, top and bottom. STALLIONS AT STUD

Many of our young horses are for sale, as are select geldings and broodmares. If you are interested in any of our horses in particular, please let us know, even if they are not specifically listed for sale. We include the entire import procedure into the U.S., with shipping to Tucson, AZ. We occasionally have a horse or two for sale staged in Tucson, Arizona. OUR RANCHES
Our ranches are located in the state of Sonora, Mexico, which borders the U.S. state of Arizona. We raise top quality registered Quarter Horses (AQHA); champion registered Charbray cattle, registered Red Brangus and Charolais cattle; and big game, including Desert Bighorn Sheep, Desert Mule Deer, and Desert Whitetail Deer (Coues Deer). In addition to seedstock cattle sales and horse sales, we offer big game hunting led by professional bilingual outfitters, as well as guided tours for photography, sightseeing, birdwatching, etc. We typically have sunny, mild days in the late fall, winter, and early spring, with daytime highs ranging from the mid-to-high 60s to the low 80s, and crisp mornings. Late spring, summer, and early fall are sunny and hot, with temperatures generally topping 100° F (and often topping 110˚ F) from early June through August. Rancho La Chimenea is located Northeast of the city of Hermosillo; Hermosillo is the capital of the State of Sonora and located approximately 170 miles south of the U.S.-Mexico border. The ranch straddles the Rio Sonora (Sonora River) and consists of mixed habitat, including hills and plains, and of course the river habitat. The wildlife includes coues deer, coyote, cougar, and many varieties of smaller critters and birds. This ranch is the center of our horse breeding operation and home to approximately half of our broodmares. Our other ranches – Rancho San Isidro, Rancho La Tescalama, and Rancho El Cosari – are in different parts of Sonora and are home to our big game and cattle operations, including many of the using horses as well as the balance of the broodmares. Many of our mares are part of the remuda when they're not raising babies. Our cattle program (distributed across San Isidro, La Tescalama, and El Cosari) has produced many Charbray breed champion bulls at the annual Expogan Sonora state stock show dating to the late 1990s. San Isidro’s low-elevation desert environment (averaging about 12” of precipitation per year) is the home of our high-fenced big game operation, with trophy Desert Bighorn rams and Desert Mule Deer bucks.
