Sometimes in a session things may not make sense and I always tell the client to be open to it as I don’t believe the animals waste their words. They may figure it out right away or it may take a little time for it to play out and for them to understand what the animal is talking about.

A while ago I had a session with a dog named Duke (not his real name). His human wanted to connect with him to see what he had to say. Duke talked about many things his human could validate but then he said something to me that didn’t make sense to his human. Duke communicated to me that he likes the yellow rubber ducks. His human said that he didn’t have yellow rubber ducks. He then showed me a picture of a yellow rubber duck and let me know he likes the ducks. Again his human said they didn’t have yellow rubber ducks. I suggested she write it down and we move on with our session.

At the end of our session Duke showed me several yellow rubber ducks and communicated he likes them. And then he showed me a picture of a Jeep with the ducks on the dashboard. I said to his human “Okay I don’t know what this is all about but I have learned that people with Jeeps have rubber ducks on their dashboard and that is what he is showing me. Do you happen to drive a jeep?” Her response was, “Yes we do own a Jeep.” I then asked, “Do you happen to have ducks on the dashboard?” Her answer was “No we don’t have any ducks on the dashboard.” Duke showed me the picture of the ducks again on the dashboard. I then said, “Did you used to have ducks on the dashboard of your Jeep?” Her response was “Yes we used to have ducks on the dashboard but my husband didn’t like them so he got rid of them and that has been a while since he took them out of the Jeep.” My next questions was “When the ducks were in the Jeep would Duke have ridden in the Jeep and seen the ducks?” Her response was “Yes he would have seen them but they aren’t there anymore.” I felt Duke jumping up and down with joy. His human asked, “Why would he be showing you those when we don’t have them anymore?” My response was, “He wants you to know he likes the ducks and that he sees what is going on in his world.”

She asked if she should get him a rubber duck. I got goosebumps as she asked and I said, “Absolutely he would love it.”
Sometimes it may take a little time to realize what the animal is communicating but eventually us humans will figure it out.

On a side note this picture of the ducks is one I found on the internet as the client said they no longer have them in the Jeep.

Great job to Duke. Animals Are Amazing!!

Today is also National Hug Your Cat Day!!

Ancient Egyptians worshipped, revered, and spoiled their cats (sound familiar?). They were seen as symbols of grace and poise — traits cats are still associated with today. There’s a lot of cat hugging going on all the time, but make an extra special attempt during National Hug Your Cat Day on June 4. The best way to celebrate? Scoop your regal cat right off the ground and snuggle the heck out of it until it feels the love. Sounds like a pleasant activity we can all get behind, no? So grab your kitty BFF and celebrate with us!

Today is International Corgi Day.

The history of corgis can be traced back to around the 12th century when Flemish weavers traveled to Wales to reside there. The Pembroke Welsh corgi is most associated with the weavers because it is due to them that there was an increase in the population of this particular corgi breed. The Cardigan Welsh corgi is another common corgi breed, but it is heavier and bigger than the Pembroke breed. The Cardigan breed is also associated more with Norse settlers. Either way, both breeds of the Welsh corgis were used as herding dogs. They were known as ‘heelers’ because of their short stature and quick agility that allowed them to easily maneuver between large groups of bigger animals. Corgis would nip at the heels of their herding animals to make them move faster. The dogs are also known as the ‘dwarf’ dog or the ‘cur’ dog, with the latter name coming from the Nordic word ‘kurra’ meaning ‘to growl.’ There’s also some interesting lore based on corgis. One such ancient story suggests that corgis came to humans when two human children stumbled upon a fairy funeral in the woods. The mourning fairies gave two corgi puppies to the children. The line of rougher fur at the base of the corgi’s haunches are the saddle lines from when the fairies used them as war horses.

This beautiful girl is looking for her furever home and while chatting with her she asked if I could help her out and post her information on my page. She is located in Omaha and has a heart full of love to give.

Meet Judy – Your Future Best Friend!

Judy is a six-year-old boxer/lab (and maybe pointer) mix with a heart as big as her soulful brown eyes. This pretty girl has been blossoming in her foster home for the past couple of months, and she’s ready to find her forever family.

Judy’s journey hasn’t been easy — she spent two long years in a small Nebraska shelter before coming to the Nebraska Humane Society in late 2024. Because of this, she can be a little shy at first. But give her time, patience, and a few treats, and she’ll soon be your most loyal and loving companion. Once Judy bonds with you, she’s all in — full of love, trust, and tail wags.

Judy is a smart cookie who already knows how to sit, lay down, and shake. She’s treat-motivated and eager to learn more — especially if cheese or hot dogs are involved! She loves long walks where she can sniff to her heart’s content, and she’ll happily play a short game of fetch or engage in a silly round of hide-and-seek. Her playful side is balanced by a mellow, independent nature — the perfect mix for someone looking for a calm yet entertaining companion.

This girl is 100% potty trained and respectful of her home. While her foster mom is at work, Judy relaxes in her own cozy room with a couch and a sunny window view — always on duty as the self-appointed neighborhood watch captain. She also enjoys backyard sunbathing and rolling gleefully in the grass.

Some of Judy’s favorite things? TREATS of all kinds — pumpkin, carrots, frozen Kongs filled with banana, applesauce, peanut butter, yogurt, and marshmallows. (Just hold the blueberries, please.) She’s a foodie who always knows where the snacks are stored!

When you come home, expect a warm welcome: happy smiles, wiggly butt, and tippy taps that show just how thrilled she is to see you. Judy’s affection is heartfelt and genuine.

Judy would thrive in a home where she can be the one and only pet — the Queen of her castle. While she tolerates other dogs, she really prefers the spotlight all to herself. She’d also do best in a home without cats.

Judy is ready to start her next chapter — could it be with you? Her adoption fee has already been sponsored by a generous donor.

To meet this beautiful girl, please contact Flavia Samper at 402-517-7022, or fill out an application through the Nebraska Humane Society.

Whisper In My Ear - About Cindy

My name is Cindy Downing and I live smack in the middle of the United States with my 2 English bulldogs (one here on earth and one in spirit), a black lab, and most importantly, a great husband. I grew up loving animals and wanting to be a veterinarian. Over the years, I have been blessed with beautiful relationships with my own four-legged family members. I came to realize that my connection with them was more of an emotional and spiritual relationship versus physical, which is why I turned my passion to relating to animals.

As I got older, I realized that I didn't have an overwhelming calling to become a vet, but my love of animals never went away. In fact, my love of animals grew stronger. I would talk to them and they would turn their heads at me like they truly understood me. It wasn't until later that I realized that they really DID understand me and that I could understand them, so my communication skills began.

I am truly blessed to have improved on my communication skills with the help of some fabulous teachers. I now feel my purpose in life is to help other animal lovers and owners deepen their relationships with and understanding of the animals in their lives.

Once I began communicating with animals, I was blessed to have another window open and have the spirit world communicate with me. I have learned so many things from them and continue to learn something new every single day. I realized that when loved one's pass over, they are still around us and truly want to be a part of our lives. They love to be acknowledged when their loved ones realize they are still around.
