Happy Monday! We hope that everyone is enjoying the start to their week. Just in case you need a serotonin boost, here is our vet tech Kelli’s menagerie of cute pets.

Reggie (Reginald Ja’Michael) is an 18-month-old mutt who loves carrying everything in his mouth, convinced he’s a small dog despite his size.

Lu (Tallulah Flau’jae Johnson) is a 5-month-old mini mutt with a passion for running and digging, and like Reggie, she’s certain she’s as big as he is!

Alex (Alexis Gianna, aka AllyCat) is an 11-year-old African grey parrot who has a soft spot for pistachios and loves to steal food. Her favorite word? “WHAT!”

Ebony (Sir Ebony) is a 4-year-old leucistic ball python with a sweet nature but less-than-perfect eyesight and aim.

Pickles (Tommy Pickles) is a 5-year-old bearded dragon who’s all about bath time and any fruit you offer him.

Nala is a 7-year-old pit mix who’s happiest when she’s playing with her spring pole, especially with her best friend Katara, a red lab. Nala loves going on adventures, particularly in the woods!

It sounds like there’s never a dull moment with this lively bunch!

Are you searching for a sweet, social, and cuddly adult cat? Look no further—Miss Paris is the perfect match for you! She’s been at the hospital for months without any interest, and we can’t understand why.

While everyone loves kittens, don’t overlook the charm of adult cats. Miss Paris has already outgrown the mischievous kitten phase, so you won’t have to worry about her climbing your curtains or stalking you at night. Instead, she’ll happily curl up beside you and keep your spot warm.

She adores snuggles, chin scratches, and soaking up sunbeams on the floor. Miss Paris is chatty and provides the sweetest company; all she needs is a loving home to call her own. Come meet this lovely girl—you won’t regret it!

We are starting our first full week of November by introducing a kitty duo, Adrien and Junior, that live with Aubry, one of our kennel techs/receptionists.

Aidrean is an 11-year-old grumpy old man who always gets his way. He loves to keep you in bed when you want to get up and enjoys judging you from his cat tree.

Junior, a 5-year-old cat, thinks he’s Aidrean’s arch-nemesis. He’s always sprinting around the house and play-fighting with Aidrean at every chance.

Despite their tough act, these indoor cats are scared of nearly everything—my brother’s sweet pittie, the neighbor’s cat outside, and even my roommate’s tiny gecko. Can you tell them apart?

We will be closing early tonight at 6pm. We hope everyone has a great Halloween this week! 👻🎃

Patriot and Rosie are our tech Emily’s awesome pups and we are going to start our week by introducing the two of them.

Patriot AKA Patey is a 6 year old Lab he is the sweet boy of our little family. He loves his tennis balls and spends most of his time sleeping, eating and swimming.

Rosie AKA Posie is a 3 year old pit mix who is our crazy girl. She enjoys giving no one personal space, swimming and playing with her brother.

Patriot and Rosie sound like the perfect duo! Patey’s laid-back nature balances well with Posie’s energetic spirit. Their love for swimming and outdoor adventures makes for some great memories.

Needing some kitten love? Some sweet snuggles? These sisters are here today and tomorrow to meet their new family! Could it be yours?

They are 8 weeks old and fat and healthy. Their names are butter(tabby) and beans(tripod black) and they are super sweet!

Beans has only three legs and we aren’t sure what happened but she seems to get around just fine.

Come meet them today!

This fun duo lives for free with our tech Ashley. When asked for a few words about them, this is what she had to say:

Roscoe: 12 year old mix. murderer of all critters (backyard hunting pro). Likes 4 people. Judging you all the time. Enjoys snacks and swimming. Tolerates his owner.

Boomer: 11 year old mix going on 6 months. Very sweet, but never shuts up. Very opinionated. Tripod. Psycho. Velcro dog. Would wear his owner’s skin if he could.

Hobbies: sleeping, barking and having selective hearing.

🤣 🤣 🤣

Over the next little while, we are going to introduce all of our staff members’ pets. It only made sense to start off with our very own hospital kitty, aka HR, Gabriel aka Gabe aka GabeGabe.

This handsome guy is our very FIRST hospital kitty and has been with us for a number of years. He boarded with us when his owner wasn’t able to take him with them and after an extended stay, we adopted him.

Gabe, now 13 years old, is the perfect hospital cat. He tolerates all of us and our shenanigans, but 100% gives the stink eye to anyone that isn’t a part of the staff.

His hobbies consist of:
• catnip
• naps
• eating
• bossing the staff around (especially when it comes to turning on the faucet)
• stealing cat carriers
• living the “if I fit I sit” motto
• being official staff security and keeping us safe from other spicy kitties

We absolutely love him and cannot imagine not having him around.

Cavaliers are toy-sized bundles of love, and Miss Josie is no exception 💜 She received lots of love during her visit.

Fun Fact: they were named after King Charles II. They were a favorite amongst the royals, but nearly became extinct when King William III and Queen Mary took over the United Kingdom.

Everyone say hello to Bristol! We recently received the sweetest note from Bristol’s owner and we are so thankful for it. We are very fortunate to have so many amazing patients and clients that make us feel incredibly appreciated. Thank you all! 💜

Bristol was previously seen at NC State and an emergency hospital for neck pain. We are happy to report that things are improving and Bristol is recovering nicely.

Sweet baby Quinn had a run in with a copperhead snake while romping in the woods (slide all the way to the end to see a picture of Quinn pre bite). Luckily, his owner noticed something was off pretty quickly and got him in to see us. We were able to get him all fixed up, feeling better and on his way home.

Copperhead and dog run ins are a pretty common occurrence in NC during the warmer months. Copperheads like to hang out in the brush and other vegetation waiting for their lunch to pass by, mostly mice and lizards. Unfortunately, these also happen to be a favorite area for our dogs to nose around and this makes a run in hard to prevent at times. Copperheads are not aggressive, but they are territorial, so if a pup comes rooting around their space, they will strike.

The most common areas dogs are bitten are their face, nose and mouth, with their limbs being a close second. Common symptoms of a copperhead bite are quick onset of swelling, some bleeding from the bite wound, pain, and sluggishness.

If you suspect your dog was bitten by a copperhead, make sure to get them into the vet as soon as possible. They will appreciate the pain relief, wound care, help with getting the swelling down and some antibiotics.

Now before you freak out, let’s discuss some facts.
1. The world is a scary place when you’re a noodle with a head. Baby copperheads, like all snakes, want nothing to do with people. If you’re not a frog, salamander, insect, or rodent you’re a predator in their eyes. (And rightly so, as many of these snakes are killed unjustly for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time).
2. A snakes number one reason for biting is to kill and eat prey, snakes only bite people in an act of self defense.
3. Baby copperheads look exactly like adults, but they have a bright yellowish/green tip on their tail that they use to lure prey while they are growing.
4. Bites are ALWAYS a direct result of humans not paying attention to where they put their hands and feet, pets harassing them, and/or humans trying to harm them.
