I say all the time that fosters are the backbone of our rescue. We absolutely couldn't do what we do without them and I love each one of them for what they do.
The pain of loving and letting go so you can do it all again is definitely real.
Baby Dot came to us back in May with her mom and siblings when we were visiting KY River AnimalShelter. Everyone else got big enough to spay and adopt out but Dot is a late bloomer. At 4 months she still only weighs 1 lb and 7 oz.
The love and bond between Dot and her foster daddy is absolutely precious. Today is his birthday and we surprised him. He thought Dot was being adopted. And she was.... to him. ♥
Blondie says:
"Uh mom, what is this new addition to our training/work day?? " 😂
Sweet Bruiser was adopted this week and is settling in well ♥
His sister, Ember, had a meet and greet last night and will be finalizing today!
From sitting in a shelter for over a month to happy forever!
One full week later....
A week of lots of worrying and lots of medicating, but tonight we see what good care can do. ♥ Upper respiratory infection and coccidia was a nasty combination but these babies have pulled thru!
Thank you to Kristen McHenry. For not looking away from the suffering at the shelter and for stepping up to give these babies a safe place to get healthy. ♥
PetSmart 4/20
Whiskey, Apollo, and Pheobe are set up at PetSmart (Brannon Crossing). They are ready for a day of fun! Come out to say “hello” to them and their fellow adoptable friends!
Still a little loopy but the babies are awake from surgery. Never seen such a room full of cuteness!
Get your applications in now so you can come visit this bunch on Saturday at our Puppy Palooza .
Admission will be limited to those with approved applications.

Two weeks ago l made the decision to let my heart dog cross the rainbow bridge. I had her 10 years and she had a liver mass and had stopped eating. She was miserable and l knew I could love her best by letting her go. I gave her a good life and a dignified end.
Three weeks ago this boy came to us at Woodstock. He spent the whole first 10 years of his life basically being a community dog and I so wanted to get him better and offer him a chance to experience the good life. We have been waiting 3 weeks for his assessment appointment with Dr. Alford to see what, if anything, we can do about his previous injuries. In those three weeks he has been so happy. Unfortunately he has other internal issues too.
Heartworm positive, kidney levels off, and enlarged prostate.
It is never my intention to throw good money at a lost cause, or to ask an animal to suffer just because it will break me to let them go.
Please pray for honest answers today from those with the knowledge to tell me. And for strength to say goodbye if that is the right call. This boy deserves no less than my own girl did. But not knowing him like I did her it is hard to know what is best.
Edit to add that the humor is not lost on us that Hudson is obsessed with balls 😂
We took Hudson from Clark County Animal Shelter . After what should have been a routine neuter, one testicle refused to be found and now he needs an ultrasound to help locate it. Leaving him "as is" is a risk, both that he might still be able to father babies, and also for cancer down the road.
Ultrasound is scheduled for Thursday and will cost $280. Once that is done we will then be looking at another surgery.
Please donate if you are able so that we can continue to help these precious babies in need.
We welcomed another broken baby into the family today 😔
No video of him walking yet but he is able to walk but in a very odd "hunchback" fashion. After an extensive sedated x-ray session with Dr. Megan today all we can come up with is that he was injured at some point and his body has compensated and now he has muscular issues. The x-rays have been sent to a radiologist and to Dr. Alford at Lexvet rehab to get their input.
Of course he is also positive for tick borne diseases and heartworm 😔
Welcome Quasimodo. We will do all we can to help you. ♥
Claire's babies are 3.5 weeks old now and getting bigger and more active ♥ Claire is such a good momma and still stays close by to make sure everyone is playing safely. ☺
They have names now:
Boys are Colter, Tyler, and Sturgill
Single girl is Shania.
Speaking of seniors undergoing hard surgeries...... look at our Sampson man!!!
He has found new life since he has healed!
We welcomed little Dolly into the Woodstock family last week. She is a mini aussie mix and is both deaf and has limited vision. We were excited when one of the trainer we work with agreed to foster this girl and get her started off on proper training.
"Dolly is learning lots!! She's learning to pair a vibrate collar with looking to me for a hand signal. So far we've been working on come, sit and down and she's a very smart little girl! "
Dolly will be available for adoption around the beginning of February. We will be looking for a home that is committed to continuing her training.
Angelique playing with her new fur sibling!
Nemo also wanted to share an update to let everyone know how well he has recovered from surgery! He is the sweetest little guy, and is getting stronger and more coordinated everyday! It has been 2 weeks since amputation, and he definitely does not let a missing leg stop him from getting where he wants to go. 😊
Our Sassy girl is doing SO well! She has had a few hyperbaric oxygen treatments and foster mom says she is walking everywhere! Sassy had her first rehab session at Lex Vet Rehab this afternoon and worked so hard! (Being highly food motivated definitely helps!) Here she is, showing off some of her sass and determination at therapy!
So excited to say that Sassy has made amazing strides this week!!!
She had two sessions in the hyperbaric chamber and has been cleared to begin physical therapy next week. It didnt come cheap lol but to see her starting to walk has done my heart and soul good!
On top of that good news, she also got a foster offer and I am so excited that this girl will get to leave the clinic on Monday and head to a foster home.
Wonderful way to end the week!!
Sassy had her first visit at LexVet yesterday. Took her out this morning to pee and she actually got on her back feet for just a moment!! I am hopeful. Is there anyone willing to give this girl a chance by fostering? We are keeping her here at the clinic for now but l would love to get her in a home environment.
Sassy has joined Sally in my misfit brigade 😂 We are headed to LexVet this afternoon to see what they think we can do to get this sweet girl back up on her feet.
