It’s really very hard to be a brand new puppy (regardless of size) at a grooming shop for the very first time! Everything seems a bit foreign and even a little scary! We focus on bonding, trust building, and cuddling. We believe that maintaining a proper work/life balance is the key to happiness, so we are beyond happy to offer flexibility . We are located in an affluent part of town in beautiful and sunny Lake Norman where clients expect their dogs to be well maintained. We strongly encourage pets be on a 4-6 week schedule, we believe in humanity over vanity, and we focus highly on a partnership with the client where education on proper grooming maintenance is key.

Our current business hours are Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm, booking by appointment only. We would love to add occasional Saturday availability to our schedule as well. We are not open in the evenings or on holidays, so you can expect to be able to enjoy those times with your loved ones. We are looking to hire groomers that are confident in their sc******ng skills and have their own equipment. The Dog House caters to many breeds that require attention to detail and skilled sc******ng techniques.

We have specifically designed our spacious work area to be efficient, organized, and well equipped, so that we can work in a comfortable atmosphere. Our lobby is private so help facilitate quiet and thorough consultations. We have a bathing room with two spacious tubs, a drying room with tables, drying counters, and plenty of space for nervous pups to gently dry (no cage bank drying). Our groom room is spacious and offers a crate free environment for more playful and outgoing pets, as well as quiet and safe spaces for more introverted pets. We have created a work environment where groomers can focus on what they do best! We do value the client/groomer/pet relationship so when feasible we prefer the groomer have interaction with the client. The groomer’s schedule will always be consistent over the owner’s, guaranteeing groomer income. After a specified amount of dedicated, reliable, and consistent employment, you will be offered commission raises and paid time off for vacations. We do offer a holiday bonus plan as well.

We are looking to hire individuals who want to be part of a family (inside and even outside of work), take interest and ownership in the brand of our business, take pride in their work, are dedicated team players, have outgoing and positive attitudes, plenty of patience with the dogs, and compassionate customer service skills. Physical strength and stamina are also necessities.

Grooming styles and expectations vary from place to place. Knowing this, groomers must be able to handle constructive criticism as to learn our specific style a high end finished product. . We expect a certain level of quality and consistency. We also expect loyalty and honesty. A new groomer added to our already team will not have to worry about building up their own personal clientele list, and will start with a full schedule of predominantly existing clients! There will always be feedback given during the grooming process, and should be viewed as a way to enhance and grow grooming skills, so be confident in the skills you already have, be prepared to share with the team, and be ready to learn more in our teaching teamwork environment! I got some news the other day that I’ve been extremely humbled by but also excited to share with everyone! 🥰

I received a text from a long term loyal client offering her congratulations… for an award I wasn’t aware I was nominated for. 🧐🤓🙏🏻

The Dog House Pet Grooming Spa won “Best in Pet Services” for Currents Magazine Best of Lake Norman Currents Award 2023! 🏆🥇🙌🏼🐶

In my mind, this year has been a rough one, securing a new location for the business, taking on renovations to the new location that were unbelievably challenging, dealing with staffing issues, rebuilding a team, putting my family and kids and pets and home on the back burner, feeling like I was disappointing everyone at each turn, swamped and drowning in the business… so the tears I cried when I found this news out were full of humble gratitude! 🥹❤️

Thank you to my staff, my family, Ryan, my kids, and my DIY renovation team for trusting my crazy dream and helping me build it! Thank you to my people, for believing in me and this little business when I was questioning myself! I hear people say so often… “Oh I just have a short haired dog, she doesn’t really need grooming”….. WAIT!!! WHAT!!??

Short haired dogs including, but not limited to chihuahuas, pugs, boxers, labs, german shepherds, etc can benefit tremendously from a visit to us!

Our “Bath and Brush” package is perfect… they’ll get a luxury bath complete with a blueberry facial, deshed shampoo and conditioner treatment (specially formulated to release and reduce shedding), glands expressed, towel and hand blow dry (no cage bank drying here!), deshed brush out with proper tools to optimize coat removal, nails filed smooth, ears cleaned, sanitary and paw pad trim (if requested), cologne and a bandana!

Ok y’all… it’s been a looooong three months in my brand new location! The phrase “best laid plans” is uncannily relevant to me at this point in time. I want to thank everyone for their grace, patience, respect, loyalty, and understanding. I have lost countless hours of sleep and cried rivers of tears over not being able to accommodate all of my loyal clients. I wish I could apologize enough to make it right, I wish I could create stunt doubles! But instead I just did the best I possibly could at grooming the pups, running the business, being being a mom, and maintaining my own sanity; knowing none of it would go smoothly!!

Quick PSA… I appreciate everyone’s patience and love. I’m one person… I’m trying to do it all, and simply can’t as quickly as I’d like. I’m working as fast as I can to make appt requests… if I haven’t gotten back to you, it’s not personal, it’s a simple reflection of my bandwidth being maxed out. If your pup needs a groom before I get to you, and you go elsewhere I will not be upset. I wish I could groom them all, but I simply can’t. Please refrain from texting multiple times.

***Not all groomers are created equal***

Unfortunately our industry has no board, no standardizations in quality, certifications, safety, etc… so I’m sure it’s difficult as a pet owner to know what’s good versus what’s bad. Who do you trust with your pet? Have you found a professional who communicates the good and the bad, and action plans for remedies? I’m an advocate for education and for open and honest communication… so here’s just a small example of the quality of work that might not be evident to the untrained eye, and why it’s something to pay attention to!

◦ This is a picture of transition from the face/head into the neck of a doodle client. You can see the dramatic difference in the length of the coat on the head/face versus the neck/body. There are two reasons this will happen:
◦ 1) an uneducated groomer who hasn’t been properly taught that two varying lengths as seen in the pics will cause excessive matting… or hasn’t been taught proper blending techniques. Also the buildup of hair around the ear canal can trap moisture and bacteria and create ear infection issues.
◦ 2) an educated groomer who is lazy and doesn’t give a s**t, who cuts corners to save time, only to cause more issues for the dog at its next groom due to neglected issues in real time.

My point is, grooming is a necessary part of a dogs’s life, and it’s not just all aesthetics… while we will never claim to be veterinarians, at The Dog House we pay extra attention to anything on the dogs body or personality that may indicate other issues. If your groomer is cutting corners on grooming techniques, what else might they be missing?

Be careful who you trust to care for your pets!

At this time I’m not accepting New Clients (dogs we haven’t seen), but hope to change that ASAP! We welcome a new groomer next week, and can’t wait for you all to meet her! 👏🏻

Days 8, 7, and 6 remaining until opening consisted of myself and my daughter Lillian down with Strep Throat. Ouch! Talk about panic mode hitting me! 😩

Days 5 and 4 until opening consisted of me actually grooming dogs, and dealing with 183646728257 random issues that you couldn’t predict if you tried! Also gymnastics, baseball, and being present as a Mom! Food was provided by my sweet sister. ❤️💙

Days 3 and 2 until opening are blur. Lillian lost a tooth and the tooth fairy came. We did a bunch of stuff to the shop… I have no pictures… We moved out of the old shop! My son, Luke (age 5) just might have been the MVP helper today!! I’m not even sure the countdown is accurate. Monday is opening day! All I can recall is exhaustion! 🤣

I’d be lost without my network of people that love and support me, Lillian and Luke, and this crazy dream I have! My appreciation for all of my supporters both silent and active, is immeasurable! This move has been very challenging and those of you who have cheered me on, supported me, and helped me… THANK YOU. You know who you are ❤️
