We exist in an industry where, much like in the "real world," there’s often a misconception that money is what defines you. That having a bigger budget, a fancier horse, or unlimited resources is the key to success. And while having disposable income can certainly help, it’s not the thing that truly matters.
Here’s what speaks louder than money:
- How you make people feel.
- How you treat your animals.
- If you’re truly enjoying what you do.
- The friendships you make along the way.
- Finally getting something right after weeks, months, or even years of struggling.
There will always be someone with more privilege than you—a nicer horse, a bigger trailer, more money, more time to ride. The list is endless. But the truth is, you can’t control those things. The only thing you can control is how YOU choose to view the world and how you exist in it.
Choose to be someone who uplifts others, inspires and motivates, and does it all for the love of the horse and the love of the sport. Prize money will get spent, ribbons will fade, and trophies will tarnish. At the end of the day, what we truly have are the memories we’ve made—moments frozen in time.
Make those moments good ones. Be the person others want to cheer for. And always, always thank your horse. They don’t know what money is. They don’t know if they won or lost. They only know that you’re there, giving them treats, scratches, and love when they get back to the stall.
In the end, that’s what really matters. 🖤
