Light colored White Crappie replica for another taxidermist’s personal fish. It’s humbling when others in your field entrust you with their trophys. He also had me do a dark Black Crappie for him, but that pic won’t drop until next week.

This deer almost got a pass from the hunter, but I wouldn’t have thought twice. The thing is awesome! I like an upright form for a tall deer, narrow buck.

Custom mold/cast Black Crappie replica. This one was around 16” if I remember correctly.
Black Crappies are one of the hardest fish to paint and make look convincing, IMO.

Ever since I was a boy I was intrigued by the art of taxidermy. Once I was an adult and had started a family, I decided to learn the basics of mounting a whitetail deer. Between then and now I’ve developed my skill sets, and added new ones. I’d never imagined it would take me where
I am now. In my seminar this weekend I challenged attendees to get out of their comfort zone. I truly believe if you don’t get out of your comfort zone, there’s no growth happening.
I was honored to be hired as one of the 4 judges (good group of men) at Nebraska’s State Taxidermy Asssociation competition/convention. I’ve always considered this group family, and for them to think enough to want to learn from me was truly humbling. I judged the fish and reptile categories this weekend, and just returned home. God is good, and if you submit and follow where He’s leading, you’ll be amazed where He can take you!

Of all the fish I take in, I’d say 90%+ are reproductions. Occasionally someone still wants a skin mount. This 5lb SE Kansas Largemouth is one of them.

What are they biting on? JIGS!!!
I love dragging a black/blue jig most of the year. This big girl was caught on just that, and he wanted it incorporated into the mount.

What’s the largest Bluegill (“Perch” if you’re anywhere south of Kansas City 😂) you’ve caught?
10” is my PB, and this one crushed it at 11”. It shipped to Wisconsin with the hybrid I posted previously.

Has anyone seen a Flathead Catfish “shoulder mount”? I hadn’t either until this one.

This had previously been [poorly] done by another taxidermist, and was brought to me to be redone. I fixed a lot of anatomy issues, new eye, added whiskers (instead of wire before 😬) and a new paint job. I wish I had a “before” photo, but all I have is the “after”.
