Tips and Tricks from your Local groomer!
3. Kennel Training
Whether you agree with kennels in your home or not, your pet NEEDS to be comfortable in one. Most groomers use kennels for drying or keeping all pets separated when there are more than one at a time in the shop. If your pet is sick and has to stay over night at the vet clinic, they will be confined to a kennel. If you go out of town and need to use a boarding facility, your pet will be confined in either a run (long, spacious kennel) or a kennel depending on their size and availability. (Emergencies happen, having the neighbor come over to take care of your pet may not always be an option). In either circumstance, your pet needs to feel comfortable in a kennel. If they don't, they can get anxious, disruptive, aggressive, or just completely tear up a kennel trying to get out (which not only costs you for property damage, but may also cause your pet serious injuries and more medical bills). You don't have to use them in your home and you can work things out with your groomer to ensure they dont have to be in a kennel, BUT there may be a situation in the future that you can't work around and you're going to want your pet to be comfortable! Prepare them and yourself for that future possibility.
With my experience in the vet and grooming world, believe me, pets can do all sorts of things when they are stressed. I've had dogs attack me trying to remove them from a kennel. I've seen pets attack their owners trying to remove then from kennels. Have you ever had to shove an 80 lb German Shepherd into a kennel??? It's not fun, believe me. I've had dogs completely destroy my kennels trying to chew their way out (those are not cheap!). Have you had to listen to a dog scream or bark for hours because they hate being confined?? I have, neither of us enjoyed it.
In the long run, its better to know your pet is completely comfortable with a situation than to make them endure it because its only ever once in a while. Be proactive with your pets. Life happens and we can't be prepared for EVERYTHING, but you can prepare for things like this. Its just safer.
Have a blessed day!

Tips & Tricks from your Local Groomer!
2. Every breed of dog, needs to be comfortable with baths and nail trims!!
Every indoor cat needs to be comfortable with nail trims at least!

Even if you have a short haired dog that you plan to take care of yourself at home, they need to handle both well for your own sanity as well as your dogs.

Between working at vet clinics and grooming facilities, nothing is more stressful than having to muzzle, bear hug, or have multiple people restrain a dog because trimming their nails is so terrifying for them. Its not only dangerous for us, but for them as well.
Trimming their nails feels weird no doubt, esp dremeling or sanding them down. So start when they are puppies or kittens, so it becomes a routine thing for them. Have someone teach you how to do it at home if nothing else. Not every pet will be carefree about it, of course. My weiner dog still hates it, but the worst she does is pull her foot away. She doesn't scream, bite or desperately try to get away and thats well enough.

Cats are an absolute nightmare with little razor feet when they want to be. Our house cats get regular nail trims, so I can do them myself, but they sure like to talk smack while I do it. 😂 Its so important to get them used to it too. Esp with the risk of cat scratch fever,or cat bites because they can cause extremely nasty infections! They are quick little boogers too, so you're guaranteed a battle wound when dealing with a nasty cat. And of course its super stressful for them, they get scared and lash out or get mad and lash out, so we need to make it an easy experience every time.

Baths, now that can turn into a nightmare as well. Most dogs do just fine, cats not so much 😂, but some dogs will go absolutely bonkers over a bath and that's not healthy. What if they are sprayed by a skunk, get into a huge nasty mess of mud (let's face it, mud is fine, but a bath is torture!! 🙄), or they come down with a skin condition and need regular baths and medicated shampoo to heal it? Your pet needs to be ok with a bath. My daughter's Great Pyrenese, hates baths, even though we've bathed her since she was 8weeks old. I can say that she has definitely improved over the years, she doesnt scream like a husky or claw us to death to escape the tub anymore, but she just hates it and pouts the WHOLE time. But its manageable now because we kept working through it.

All this to say work with your pets from a young age! You'll both be happier for it! And your groomer will definitely thank you as well!
Bless you and every fur baby!

Tips & tricks from your local groomer!

1. EVERY breed needs to get started before they are 4-5 months old! Conditioning is key. We want them to be comfortable and not scared just as you do. Get your vaccines done and find a groomer to get started. Until then, start at home with baths. Make sure your using good pet shampoo.
I personally dread taking on a new dog that is over 8- 9 months old and never been groomed. I'm a seasoned groomer and I know it'll go one of two ways. They will either take to it like a champ or go absolutely bonkers!! So why risk traumatizing your pet?? You took on the responsibility, so its your job to prepare them. We, as groomers, can only do so much magic.
Obviously, if you adopt an older pet, these things don't apply, but be honest with your groomer about everything upfront, so no one gets hurt or upset.
Soooo I will continue posting advice/ tips & tricks. If you don't agree with me, that's fine, this is my opinion from my experience!
Have a Blessed Day! ❤️
