On behalf of the Officers, Directors and Members of the English Setter Club I express our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers to Ed Gager and family for the passing of Daryl (Grear) his wife of 61 years. Ed, is a lifelong member or the ESCA. Those of us that know Ed know how valued he has been to the club over the years and we still enjoy all of his years of participation and recall of so much of the clubs past. In so many ways he’s the go to club historian. I’ve attached the particulars for the arrangements.

Attention members: North Jersey and Del Val Brittany Club will be hosting a Day of Bird Dog Training on Saturday August 10, 2024. The club grounds are still open for ESCA members to train on that day.

If you know of someone not established in pointing dogs and looking to learn more, please share the flyer below. A first time owner? Invite them. A puppy owner? Invite them. A hunter that wants to try a hunt test or field trial? Invite them! Space is limited.

Sunday, July 14, The English Setter Club of America hosted their annual summer meeting and BBQ. The meeting was well attended in spite of the heat and mid 90’s temperatures. David Ross, current President, presided over the meeting and presented the changes to the Club officers and Board. Joe Cincotta was nominated as President, David Ross as Vice President, John Frank and Dan Jolly nominated to the BoD. A motion was made to accept the newly configured officers and Board. Currently sitting officers including Joseph Lordi, Sec/Treasurer, Bob Sexton, Recording Secretary, and Mark Dreyfus, Corresponding Secretary remain in their Officer roles. The motion was made, second, and passed by unanimous vote. David Discussed the many activities and accomplishments of the past year and thanked individuals for special contributions. Joe Spoke briefly on events that lie ahead particularly the field trial events both AKC and American Field. He thanked both David Ross and Wayne Horner for their efforts as outgoing President and. Vice President.
The BBQ was well attended and a nice grilled buffet was put out. A huge shout out and thank you to Dan Brickner, David Creagan, and Jim Tuite for manning the hot grill! Thank you Joe Lordi for co-chairing all the planning, shopping and grill rental pick up and drop off. Thanks to those of you that jumped in afterwards in help with clean up!

Dear Members and Friends of the ESCA,

This weekend, as you all know, was our English Setter Club of America annual Lee Bird Event. It was started in 2016 on the idea to do something that brought club members of different interests together that love our bird dogs, honor the memory and contributions of Lee Bird and do some fundraising for the club. Saturday evening was the big dinner and social and it reset the height of the bar of a good event with, friends, food, band, activities, stake placements and raffles and auctions. I am so proud and fortunate to be surrounded by such an amazing group of members both old and new that embraced the vision of this club event and executed on it beyond what anyone could expect.
This special event served up another surprise, one that left me with a special memory. With my family in attendance, my friends, so many club members, field trialers from all over, and over 125 in attendance I was honored with a Bird Dog Foundation Life Patron Award. Words can’t express how I feel, to say overwhelmed is an understatement. I want to thank my friends and family who worked behind the scenes on this and the ESCA who embraced and supported this most special and prestigious honor. I am humbled, honored and proud for this very special award plaque to be displayed in my home, at the Bird Dog Foundation and most dearly at the English Setter Club. ❤️

Great field trial weekend with the Lee Bird Classic with a great cookout and party celebration on Saturday evening. Many thanks to all that helped out with special recognition to Megan McCay, Joe Cincotta & Joe Buchanan, Pat Mooney and Dan Brickner for their critical efforts in making the party and entire weekend a huge success!

Congratulations to the Lee Bird Classic Club Championship winners Ed McCay with Spike for the pointer/setter Club Title and John Frank with Axel for the Continental Title. It was a great stake with great representation of member dogs in both classes. It’s a competitive format and all the entrants run in the same stake. A winner from each class is named. It was a hot day but dogs, handlers and horses were not deterred and put down some nice performances. A huge Thank you to Marcus Ramsuer and Dan Jolly for judging, two exceptional judges in the saddle. Both gave so much to support the entire event judging multiple stakes!

The English Setter Club is proud to announce its partnership with Eukanuba, a leader in premium performance nutrition for sporting, working, and service dogs.

Eukanuba has pledged its support for the Lee Bird Classic Field Trial as the Title Sponsor and provided a generous donation to the club.

A representative from Eukanuba, Lynn Carradine, will be at trial next weekend to educate and answer questions about the brand. Please stop by the Eukanuba table to learn more about their line of performance products tailored to sporting dogs.

Additionally, Eukanuba has provided the winners of each AKC and Lee Bird Member stake with a bag of branded merchandise including a towel, hat, and tumbler. Eukanuba has also provided 12 large bags of dog food and a cooler with branded merchandise to be auctioned off at the Social event.

As you might have heard the English Setter Club of Medford NJ is hosting an AKC field trial and the Lee Bird Classic starting Thursday April 25th 2024 thru Sunday April 28th 2024.

Lee Bird Classic
As part of the Lee Bird Classic multi-day event the end of April, the club has 3 non-AKC stakes. These are all about bragging rights and having fun with your dogs. We need members like you to come out and register to run your dogs!

The Lee Bird Classic Club Championship (for finished dogs) and the Youth Stakes are on Sunday the 28th, and the Lee Bird Classic Hunting Dog stake (ecollars allowed, fun for everyone!) will be held in the afternoon on Saturday the 27th. Stick around for dinner, auctions and live entertainment!
