The breed of the week goes to the…
American Pit Bull
The American Pit Bull Terrier is a muscular, short-coated companion dog from a long line of working breed ancestors traced back to England. Originally bred to “bait” bulls in the fighting pits, the breed evolved into all-around farm dogs and later moved into the house to become “nanny dogs” because they were so gentle around children. The American Pit Bull Terrier’s name is often shortened to Pit Bull; however, “Pit Bull” is not an official breed but an umbrella term that refers to a group of breeds with similar physical characteristics. There are different types of Pit Bulls, the five most common being the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the Bull Terrier, and the American Bully.
