Remember that your dog is an animal. They may “tolerate” it now but one day when they are not wanting to “tolerate” it they may bite.
Dogs communicate with their body language, growl, or bite. Body language is one us humans miss so often because we aren’t observing or we haven’t been educated on what they mean. Then we rely on a growl as a warning that they want space as a form of communication. Sometimes we take the growl away and shame them for it when we shouldn’t, we should be shaming our children. Some dogs just go straight for the bite because they don’t know how to growl or the growl is shamed and taken away.
It’s our job to keep our children and dogs safe. Please make sure that if you cannot monitor your children and dog in the same room that you either place baby gates up to keep them separated and/or designate a “safe place” for your dog to wind down from the chaos in a less traffic room. Teach your children to be kind to animals and give them space when they are laying down and/or on their beds.
