I couldn’t help but smile when the following FB memory popped up regarding Ameraucana exhibitors/entries 8 years ago as I was releasing our 2024 ABC national meet video yesterday.

Several years ago I set a goal to encourage fellow breeders in the SE and to develop relationships with those that love the breed. Last Saturday we had more Ameraucana breeders present at our SE national meet than we have ever had to my knowledge! We ended up with 20 Ameraucana exhibitors at the show. It is nice to be a part of growth within the breed. ☀️ It gives me hope that the Ameraucana breed will be active and successful at poultry shows for years to come in the SE.

Heart of Dixie, Anniston, AL, 10/8/16.
-4 LF Ameraucanas entered, 1 exhibitor

Forsyth Fowl Fanciers, Winston-Salem, NC 11/26/15.

What a wonderful weekend at our 2024 ABC national meet!!! It could not have gone better in my opinion. 🌟

The ABC had an awesome turn out and numerous beautiful Ameraucana were shown. I was so excited. We have worked hard to build up our SE district the last few years and this national meet it felt rewarding to see that effort come to fruition. ☀️ We had 20 exhibitors which is a tremendous turn out for the SE!

I was excited to see old friends and meet a few new friends.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the national meet a success- in particular Jean Ribbeck. Thanks for being my right hand man. 💕

Congratulations to Bruno Menarim for receiving Champion Ameraucana with a show stopper LF blue Ameraucana c**kerel and Jerry DeSmidt for receiving Reserve Champion Ameraucana with a LF white Ameraucana pullet.

I made it a personal goal to show several show quality splash this year at our national meet as a thank you to everyone who helped us with our large fowl splash approval process. I reached my goal! A hen I own by Steve Neumann received BV against a strong line up of large fowl splash. I’m really happy for you Steve! 😊 My blue hens received 2,3,4 and 5 so I will be on my way to a strong splash pen for 2025 as that is my focus. I believe my splash hens ranked similarly but I was too busy to record all the coop card results. 😅

I also enjoyed showing the other Ameraucana color varieties I raise! I received BV and RV in large fowl wheaten and blue wheaten and was honored to be the first recipient of our new wheaten and blue wheaten traveling plaque in honor of Wayne Meredith.

I am currently piecing a video together of the ABC national meet and will have it ready soon!

*Note that my birds travel in a temperature controlled environment with good air flow.

Now to figure out what to do for labels!

On Monday I received a phone call from a nice older lady that was grieving the death of her sebastopol gander. She had a lonely female sitting on eggs. She was referred to me by Vivian Malatesta. She just wanted a gander so when her female got off the nest, she wouldn't be alone. So, I went outside and took a photo of one particular gander that had a small issue that made him not eligible to be a breeder. I sent her the photo and she said he was beautiful. We managed to get him and the shipping paid for through Walmart and I shipped him out on Tuesday. This is the photo she sent me after he arrived. He looks like he will have a happy life.

Have you considered entering a display at a poultry show? Are you curious about what a display consists of?

A display consists of seven birds from the same exhibitor of the same breed and variety.

If the show has a "trio" class, the exhibitor must have at least one trio entered (young or old). A trio consists of a c**k and two hens or a c**kerel and two pullets.

In addition to that entry, the exhibitor must have at least one c**k, one hen, one c**kerel, and one pullet entered in the show.

The ABA and the APA have calculations for ranking the best displays!

It has been 40 years since the Ameraucana breed was admitted to the APA standard!

At the annual meet in Milwaukee in October of 1984, the APA Board of Directors voted to accept bantam as well as large fowl Ameraucana into the APA Standard using the bantam’s proposed standard as a guide. The wheaten, blue wheaten, blue, black, buff, white, brown red, and silver color varieties were recognized!
