I made a delivery of live Mealworms to Missing Link Aquatics & Exotics in Concord, NC today.
Piper the Prairie Dog was out and about in the store, having a grand time.He absolutely loves a belly rub. If he sees you come in, he’ll come running and stand to greet you!

A couple of first generation Super Worm Beetles (Zophobas Morio ) that have morphed from the pupae stage.These are the first ones to arrive in establishing the colony. The creamy colored beetle is the most recent to transform. It’s shell hasn’t hardened yet. In a couple days it will turn to the rust color, and then black. When it has changed to a black color, it’s mature enough to reproduce.
While checking the pupae trays this evening , an unidentified flying object crash landed belly up in a tray. Are Lady Bugs friend or foe to a mealworm farm ? Could be both. While they eat mites, aphids, some molds. and other small insects which they can overpower as well, they can and will eat eggs (including their own) if prey is scarce.This one was relocated to the great outdoors.
The little young’ uns are thirsty. Just gave them several carrot strips only a couple minutes ago.

Stage 1 - Darkling Beetle lays eggs
Stage 2- Eggs hatch into mealworms.Mealworms grow , shedding exoskeletons as they get larger.
Stage 3- Mealworm transforms into Pupae
Stage 4- Pupae changes into beetle, cycle repeats
The video is in the midst of stage 3 entering stage 4.
