Making mead today. Sanitize everything first, add half the water then 2 1/2 lbs of my honey, then the nutrients and the rest of the water with lots of shaking in-between to mix everything. Lastly, add the yeast and put the stopper and valve. I have my alarm set for 24 hours from now to come back and degass it and add more nutrients. See you tomorrow 😊

We have had so much rain and temps in the 90’s for most of the season so far. I have been putting all my energy into keeping things alive. Today was a beautiful day. I was out in the garden weeding and putting down wood chips most of the day. Half the he garden is done and i am really happy with it. Sorry, no before pictures, they were too embarrassing lol.

I always get impatient with root crops. The fact that all the magic is happening under the soil drives me crazy. I had to take a look. The Yukon golds already have a few nice size potatoes. This sneak peak should keep my curiosity in check. At least for a couple weeks lol. Long way to go before it’s time to harvest.

What’s for dinner? Pork and garlic stir fry over a bed of baby kale, from the garden, garnished with fresh cilantro, also from the garden. Don’t forget the hot sauce made with Thai peppers we froze from last years garden. And yes, it tasted as good as it looks lol.

Strawberries!! Always the first thing i harvest. I try to pick them daily before the chipmunks and squirrels get them. The first couple days i sat and ate them all lol. Now i am freezing them everyday to make jam later

Finally seeing some progress in the garden. The warmer weather has made a big difference.

It has been a rough week. Woke up Tuesday morning to find that a bear destroyed our fence and got into our coop. We lost our entire flock except for one hen and she is not doing well. One of the worst days of my life. I wouldn’t wish seeing what i saw on my worst enemy.
Not much time to mourn, i have to protect my hives. I put up this premier portable electric fencing. Does anyone have experience with this fencing? Any advice?

Indoor garden looks awesome. So far everything seems to be thriving. Loving the way it looks and the app reminds me when to add the nutrients and controls the lighting. Love it!

I am loving this new rise indoor garden. Especially when I see lettuce at $5 a head in the grocery store. Next year i know to start earlier so there won’t be such a gap between harvesting outside and harvesting inside.

I am going to consider the jam a success. The flavor is awesome but I would have liked it a little bit thicker in texture. The sugar / berry ratio on the recipe was insane and all I could taste was the sugar so I added 3 more cups of berries. I guess by using less sugar the pectin didn't do its thing. I am not willing to compromise flavor for texture so I am going to leave it as is.

Guess what all my family members are getting in their Christmas stockings this year!

The chicks will be 2 weeks old on Sunday. Now that they are out if the cage and moving around the coop and the run one of the other hens is helping take care of them and keep them safe. It's awesome to watch!
