Full Care Retirement at Premier Facility w/Superior Fencing, Bedded Sheds,Pasture,Feed, Farrier, Vet Care, Burial on Farm, Experience & Love =Peace of Mind for You USHJA Approved Equine Retirement Facility & Vet recommended full care PA 🐴 retirement farm established in 1988 to meet the needs of discerning & loving horse owners who desire only the best of care for their beloved 🐴 . Founder /owner
Christine Reese began boarding retirees due to the lack of facilities designed to meet the needs of retired horses after several failed attempts to board her own retired 🐴 . For many in horse industry boarding retirees is viewed as EZ 💰entailing nothing more than throwing a horse out in a fenced field with or without a run in shed, (often in violation of state laws), placement of a round bale (fed to save labor & 💰, not for hay quality), all without the visiting owners. Regular hoof trims are in reality $10 trims performed when farm decides the horses’ hooves need trimmed, NOT at regular 6-8 week intervals. According to owner Reese, “At Orchard Equine Retirement, retirement does not equal pasture or rough board. Our retirees spend their days grazing and hanging out with their buddies which often includes play & mutual grooming sessions. Their bedded sheds offer protection from the weather & insects. We encourage our 🐴 to use their sheds. The difference between a horse’s life before retirement & their life at Orchard Equine Retirement is in how your 🐴 spends their days & nights. Where before your 🐴 lived in a stall 24/7/365 with time out for grooming & riding, with limited turnout time, with or without a buddy, in a small paddock, now your 🐴 is turned out in a pasture 1-7 acres in size allowing them to run, buck, & play with their friends. Your horse is allowed to develop a close bond with another horse, only to be separated at end of life. Whereas before feeding time & your visits were the highlight of your horse’s day, now being with their herd mates is most important, right after treats of course! Your retired horse still requires a safe turnout location. Their pasture may be several acres versus a small paddock, however safety remains number 1 priority. In addition to a safe place to exercise, your horse requires nutritious forage. Our pastures have nutrients added as indicated by soil test results. Our pastures are grass, free of hazards. Corners are rounded for safety & Trees are fenced off.
