WOW! In the month of September, our trapping team worked incredibly hard, tackiling a few large projects, in addition to the more common small ones. It was exhausting but it was well worth it.
Everyone on this team is a volunteer. They selflessly donate their time and energy to helping this cause. This is a huge accomplishment for our small group. Thank you to everyone that helped make this possible!

Another example of why Trap- Neuter- Return is so important

Just three of the six surviving kittens (out of eight born) of the feral mom cat who was in labor for 18 hours last month and wound up at MLAH. Little orange guy was born at the ER. He was the seventh kitten born. Kittens number six and eight did not survive. The sixth kitten was the one stuck in mom. 😿

Little orange guy has no idea of the trauma surrounding his birth, he just laying around snuggling with his two gray sisters, looking cute.

Although absolutely adorable, the human and financial resources required to care for those six kittens, and now the Siamese storm drain baby, are high. Hundreds of dollars will be needed, and hundreds of hours dedicated to their care. That doesn't even count the suffering of the middle-aged adult mom cat. TNR is the only action that will break the cycle of cat overpopulation and suffering. We need funded TNR, free or very low-cost spay-neuter clinics. A lot of us who are out there trapping, socializing, fund-raising, and providing the non-stop physical care to the homeless animals are getting old.

A different solution to expecting 24/7/52 volunteer driven hours is needed in order to address the needs of homeless animals.

Love community cats or hate them ... Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is the ANSWER!

❤️ Love community cats? ...
You can help the cats in your neighborhood by TNRing them. Spaying female cats means she won't go into heat, get pregnant, and birth kittens outdoors. Spayed females won’t attract new male cats to your neighborhood, and when you get the male cats neutered, you’ll be making their life MUCH easier. No more fighting over female cats or stinky spraying to mark their territory. And fewer cat fights keep diseases like FIV from spreading.

💔 Hate community cats? ...
Removing cats from your neighborhood is NOT an effective solution because it creates the “vacuum effect” meaning new cats will move in to start the cycle of reproduction all over again. But when you get the cats fixed and RETURN them to your neighborhood, the cats will no longer be reproducing, and they may keep new cats from moving in. TNR means less odor, less noise, and fewer cats being born. 👍👍👍

PLEASE spay/neuter!

PLEASE spay/neuter!

If you are feeding 1 or 2 stray/feral community cats, spay and neuter ASAP through the process of Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR)!

Spaying and neutering is a one-time cost (and you won't have to feed 12+ cats after those 2 cats you started feeding, turn into many more!!!)

❗️And guess what? --- You DO NOT NEED TO WAIT TO GAIN A COMMUNITY CAT'S TRUST TO GET THAT CAT SPAYED OR NEUTERED. A humane trap is safest for them and you!

✅️ Trap/Neuter/Return any community cat you are feeding!

Please google Low-Cost Spay Neuter clinics in your area! Many areas have resources to help!

If you're in the Charlotte, NC area, please visit our website to learn more about TNR and low-cost options in our area - https://www.friendsofferalfelines.org/how-to-tnr.

Can't say this enough. If cats living outside are given milk, we have no way of knowing the unpleasant/dangerous effects they may experience. (Vomiting and diarrhea cause dehydration, not good for cats that probably don't drink enough water. 😿)

Our trappers were very busy this weekend, despite the rain. A total of 23 cats were trapped, one of which was this lucky guy, who has apparently had this plastic downspout extender stuck on him for several months. While under anesthesia to get neutered and vaccinated, it was safely removed from his neck. Thank you to all the caretakers who reached out to get help for him and all the others!

This handsome fellow is Gus. He is a sweet, mild-mannered boy who loves attention and enjoys playing with his toys. Gus is being fostered with other cats and gets along well with all of them. He would love to find a furever home where he can get the love and attention he deserves. If interested in adopting Gus, please complete an application here.
