🚨 MCAS FOSTERS… we need our crates back 🚨
(Or hear me out… fill them back up 😏)

If you currently have an MCAS crate or kennel sitting empty in your home, we need your help! Those crates are how we keep dogs safe and how we’re able to say yes to the next foster who steps up.

You have two great options:
1️⃣ Return your empty crate so we can get it out to another foster ASAP
2️⃣ Put it to work by taking in another dog who needs a temporary place to land

Why we care so much about crates (and why we insist on them for new fosters):
• They protect your home from chewed furniture, doors, shoes, and surprise redecorating
• They keep pets safe from cords, wires, and things they absolutely should not eat
• They prevent resident pets from getting into each other’s stuff or food
• Most importantly, crates give new dogs a calm, predictable space that’s theirs while they decompress

Crates are not punishment. They’re safety, structure, and a built-in exhale for everyone involved.

👉 If you have an empty MCAS crate: please coordinate a return so we can keep lifesaving moving

👉 If you can’t foster right now: you can still help by sponsoring a dog in need and purchasing a crate off our wishlist so another foster can say yes!

Empty crate? Let’s fix that.
Whether it’s returning it, filling it, or buying one, you’re directly helping us save more lives.

HELP!!! We have puppies and small dogs needing temporary foster for transport on 1/9! 🐾

We desperately need short-term foster homes as post-holiday intakes increase. These dogs only need a safe, loving place to land until 1/9, and all supplies and support are provided.

These particular animals are no longer available for local adoption, and we know that can be frustrating to see. We want to take a moment to explain why.

Many of our transport partners are able to save harder-to-place adult dogs only if a small dog or puppy travels with them. These “paired” transports allow more lives to be saved overall by:

-Making it possible for shy, senior, medical, or large dogs to get out
-Helping offset medical and care costs for dogs who need extra support
-Creating space at the shelter so we can say yes to the next animal in need

If you click through the photos, you’ll see both the small dogs needing foster and the adult dogs who were tagged by rescue specifically because these small dogs were included.

While these small dogs are headed to rescue partners out of state, dogs just like them enter our shelter every single day, and we are always happy to help match local adopters with animals who are currently available.

Fostering one of these pups for a short time directly helps multiple dogs make it out alive. If you can open your home for just a couple of weeks, you are playing a huge role in saving lives across the board.

If you can foster until 1/9 or want to learn more, please email us at [email protected]. And as always, thank you for caring, asking questions, and supporting lifesaving work. 💙

There is a particular kind of dog who gets passed over again and again in shelters.

The black dogs.

They blur together behind kennel doors. They do not photograph well under fluorescent lights. They are labeled “just another black dog” in a building with hundreds of dogs, many barking, many stressed, many trying to be seen. And so they wait. And wait. And wait.

What people do not see is that these dogs are often the calmest, the softest, the ones who settle quickest once they are out of survival mode. They are loyal in a way that feels old fashioned. They are steady. They are observant. They watch everything before offering trust, and when they do, it is wholehearted.

Shelters are loud. They are overwhelming. Even for well intentioned adopters, it can feel like too much. Rows of kennels. Too many choices. Too much noise. Too much heartbreak. But here is the truth that gets lost in the fear: most of these dogs are not broken. They are not dangerous. They are not doomed. They are waiting for someone to slow down long enough to actually meet them.

Fostering changes everything. When a dog leaves the shelter and enters a home, they stop being “A410301 BLUE 13B.” They get a name. A routine. A personality. We learn how they do with kids, with cats, with other dogs, with couches and car rides and quiet nights. They come back with stories instead of guesses. That information saves lives.

Some of our dogs have spent over a year living in a cinder block kennel. A year of concrete floors, echoing noise, and people walking past without stopping. They deserve more than survival. They deserve a home.

This weekend, we are making it easier to say yes. Adoption fees are reduced to $20 for dogs and $10 for cats for our Santa Paws Adoption Event. We want to give these animals something they have never had before: a place to belong for the holidays.

If you have ever thought about adopting. If you have ever thought about fostering. If you have ever looked at a black dog and kept walking because it felt overwhelming, this is your moment to pause.

They are worth it. Every single time. 🖤

✨ Meet our petite girl who’s ready to find her people ✨

This sweet mixed breed girl is about 1 year and 7 months old, weighs 34 lbs, and could use a little extra love (and groceries!) to help her fill out. She already has plenty of affection for humans. She truly adores people and is happiest when she’s close to them.
She has been amazingly gentle on a leash, making walks a joy, and she has been kenneled successfully with other dogs with no issues at all. She’s social, polite, and loves her treats.

We do want to be honest about one thing: she’s a bit of an escape artist. She’s clever and athletic and can scale fences, which means she’s looking for a home where she can be an inside dog and supervised while outdoors. With the right setup and attentive humans, she’ll thrive.

She doesn’t want to run away from love, she just hasn’t found the right place yet. 💛

If you can offer a foster, rescue placement, or forever home with supervision, patience, and lots of affection, this special girl is ready to give her whole heart in return.

Please help us find the humans she’s been waiting for. 🐾

‼️STILL IN NEED!! RESCUE ONLY‼️
🎄 ALL SHE WANTS FOR CHRISTMAS IS A CHANCE 🎄

This sweet girl, Tippy, has been nothing but loving since the moment she arrived at our shelter. Gentle. Kind. Affectionate. The kind of dog who reminds you why you fell in love with dogs in the first place. 💔

Sadly, she’s still waiting.

She has luxating patellas in both hind legs and needs to be seen by an orthopedic specialist for possible corrective surgery. While she remains happy and loving, her condition requires medical care that our shelter cannot provide.

We already tried once to find her a rescue and came up empty and that breaks our hearts. She does not deserve to be overlooked because she is the best girl. She deserves comfort. She deserves stability. She deserves a future without pain.

🎅 In her Christmas antlers, she looks festive and hopeful… but behind those sweet eyes is a dog wishing for a miracle.

✨ RESCUES: PLEASE CONSIDER HER ✨
She would thrive in a rescue that can get her the orthopedic care she needs and then watch her blossom into the incredible companion she’s meant to be.

If you can help, or if you know a rescue that can, please reach out or share. One share could be the reason she finally gets her miracle.

This Christmas, let’s not let her story end at the shelter. ❤️🐾

🎄 A Christmas Miracle Needed for Shar-Pei Mom & Her Baby 🎄

This sweet Shar-Pei mama came to us as a stray, doing what moms do best, protecting and caring for her wrinkly little miracle. She has just one puppy, only 5 weeks old, and the bond between them is beautiful.

But mom is hurting.

She has a broken hind leg that requires orthopedic surgery, care she simply cannot receive while in the shelter. Despite her pain, she remains gentle, loving, and trusting. Just the kind of dog that melts into you and reminds you why rescue matters.

As Christmas approaches, we are hoping for a rescue to step forward and give this family the miracle they deserve:
✨ Medical care for mom
✨ Safety and comfort for her puppy
✨ A chance at a future without pain

They should be curled up together somewhere warm, not waiting in a shelter wondering what comes next.

These two MUST go to rescue together and time is running out. Soon, Wrinkles will be adoptable and will be separated from mama...leaving her to pray she is special enough to save. Let’s make sure this mama’s Christmas wish comes true: to heal and to keep her baby safe.

🎁 Please share. Please help. Please be their miracle. 🎁

I'm not saying that we need small & young dog fosters until transport on 1/9 but I'm not NOT saying we need small & young dog fosters until transport on 1/9....

❤️We have several great 25lbs and under dogs if you have a little free space in your home! Consider fostering for transport!!

🚗Transport dogs have committed rescues, fosters, and adopters on the other side of their trip. Any dog being fostered for transport is no longer available for local adoption (you heard me right, husbands!!).

🐾Believe it or not, we have many puppies and small dogs who sit alone without adopters in the shelter. So if you ever see an adorable small dog or puppy needing foster, consider coming by and seeing the OTHERS who are still looking for homes- they'll be happy you did!

UPDATE -- SAFE WITH RESCUE

UPDATE -- Rocket has started to experience pain in the areas affected by his injury! He needs rescue FAST!

🚨 RESCUE NEEDED FOR 13LB HIT BY CAR SURVIVOR 🚨

Rocket was brought into the shelter after being hit by a car back in early September. After the accident, we at MCAS were then tasked with finding a positive outcome for Rocket. He sat with us for 2 months until an amazing foster stepped up and welcomed him into her home. While this would be a happily ever after for most dogs, a foster family is only the beginning of Rocket's journey to furever. He will need surgery to correct the issues he's experiencing with his back legs to ensure he maintains a good quality of life. Rocket has already gone from being unable to walk to finding his way around his fosters home. With that much strength, he's destined to live a long, happy, pain-free life!

Thanks to a generous donor, a consult and quote has been provided to us in hopes a rescue group is able to take on his healing:

Exam: Rocket is BAR. Ambulatory on all four limbs with significant gait abnormality of the right hind. Radiographs show a comminuted femoral fracture. There is a non displaced fracture of the distal left tibia.
Diagnosis: comminuted fracture of right femur
Recommendation: recommend ORIF of the femur fracture -- estimated $2,800

🚗 FOSTERS NEEDED UNTIL JANUARY 9TH TRANSPORT! 🚗

MCAS has gained even MORE transport partners in the north and now have the opportunity to send up to 50 dogs EACH MONTH to new furever homes where there is a NEED for adoptable animals!

Transport alleviates shelter overcrowding by placing animals into temporary foster homes until they can be sent to reputable rescues that use their fosters and adoption programs to place dogs who have been otherwise invisible down here with us in the kennels.

Some of the dogs on this list have been in the shelter for almost ONE YEAR. Not only do these dogs need a shelter break but we need to get more information on them to send to their future fosters and adopters. The only way we can do that is with YOU! Fosters and adopters want to see these dogs in a home environment so they can envision them in their own home!

So what do we need?

Temporary foster homes for the dogs on this list (AND MORE)! Some until transport and some just for a short shelter break. Click each of their photos for more details.

UPDATE -- TAGGED BY RESCUE!

🚨URGENT FINAL PLEA🚨 NEEDS POSITIVE OUTCOME BY END OF DAY 12/12/25

Smalls came to the shelter after being reported hit by a car, and he has already gained a fan club here. This giant, goofy boy is tired of living in a kennel and is ready to get the care he needs so he can finally heal. His ideal placement will be with a calm environment and someone who understands mastiffs, as he can be unpredictable at times.

The most difficult part of Smalls’ situation is his medical care. Smalls needs treatment beyond what the shelter can provide. Radiographs show no fractures in his front leg, which means his injury is more complicated and needs a specialist to determine what is causing his problems. Right now, he cannot walk for long without falling over or leaving a trail of blood from his injured paw.

Our veterinarians have tried their best, but because of his size, his stress level, and how hard it is for him to be handled safely during exams, they do not feel comfortable performing surgery or managing his aftercare. His needs are more than what we can safely provide in a shelter setting.

Even with all of this, Smalls still has a lot of joy in him. He loves getting outside, playing with his ball, and spending time with the volunteers he trusts. He just needs a chance.

Smalls will be available for rescue only. He needs a rescue partner who can provide the medical intervention and support he requires.

Can you give Smalls the second chance he deserves?
