🚗 Transport Help Needed – July 23 🚗

We’re looking for help with one of two options to transport kittens for spay/neuter at Skagit Humane:

🕗 Option 1 – Morning Drop-Off:
• Pick up in Ferndale
• Drop off at Skagit Humane by 8:00 AM
• 14 kittens total (they all fit in one vehicle – I use a Kia Sorento)

🕓 Option 2 – Afternoon Pick-Up:
• Pick up from Skagit Humane around 4:00 PM (may be a little earlier)
• Return kittens to the same location in Ferndale
• We then hand them off to their individual fosters

All the kittens will be in carriers and brought to one location for easy transport both ways.

If you can help with either leg, please send us a message!
Your support makes a huge difference in helping us keep this rescue machine running smoothly! 💛🐾

Little Miss Camper Update 🖤🤍

When Camper first arrived, she wasn’t too sure about me. For the first week, she kept her distance and wasn’t ready to be touched.

But patience, some gentle neck and ear scritches, and a little trust-building go a long way…

Because today—she climbed right up into my lap all on her own.
So I’m calling it: I win. 🥰

Camper will be available for adoption soon, and she’s just the sweetest little personality. She’s got that perfect mix of shy-turned-sweet, and like a lot of tuxedos, she’s also a bit of a talker—which I personally adore.

If you’re looking for a soft-spoken but soulful little friend who just wants to feel safe and loved, this girl might be your match. 💬🐾

Stay tuned—she’ll be ready for her forever home before you know it!

🐾 Meet Cookie! 🐾
This sweet boy is a male Chihuahua mix who’s ready to find his forever home! 💙

✅ Neutered
✅ Vaccinated
✅ Microchipped
✅ House-trained

Cookie is playful, affectionate, and LOVES roughhousing with other dogs. He’s also a total cuddlebug who enjoys sleeping in bed with his people and giving kisses. He’s smart, listens well, and loves being part of the action! 😘

He currently lives in a foster home with dogs, chickens, and birds — and gets along great with all of them. He will chase cats if they run, so a confident cat is best.

💬 He’s cautious with new people and will bark to let you know he’s unsure, so he needs a home that’s patient and willing to give him time to settle in and build trust.

❗️No young kids — Cookie does best in a calmer environment with adults or older, respectful teens.
🐕‍🦺 We’d love to see him in a home with another playful dog — he really thrives when he has a buddy!

🏃‍♂️ He’s an active little guy, so his ideal home will be one that enjoys walks, playtime, and keeping him engaged.

📍Ready to meet him?
Apply today at: www.mainstreetmuttrescue.com

Give Cookie the chance to settle in — and he’ll reward you with endless love. 🐶❤️

🚨 Let’s Talk About the Root of the Problem 🚨

Every single day we see more posts of people giving away or selling kittens for $30–$50 — with vague promises to “fix the mom later.” But here’s the reality:

❌ 7 kittens x $50 = $350
✅ It costs about $100 to spay the mom
💡 So they profit while contributing to the very crisis rescue groups are drowning in.

This isn’t just careless — this is the problem.

We see it over and over:
• Moms having litter after litter
• No fixing, no vetting, no long-term plan
• Kittens dumped on social media, at shelters, or worse
• Rescues cleaning up the mess every. single. time.

Fixing your cat is not optional. It’s the bare minimum of responsible pet ownership.

If you’re breeding cats for cash without fixing the mom, and kittens you are the reason shelters are full. You are the reason rescues are stretched thin. You are not helping — you are adding to the problem. If you are getting your kittens from these people you are also the reason it’s all a huge crisis.

We’re tired. The animals deserve better.

Fix your cats. Stop the cycle. Be part of the solution.

This morning was another reminder that rescue is never just one person — it’s always a team.

Whatcom Feline Alliance got a call about a tiny kitten, probably only a couple of weeks old. The woman who found her really wanted to help but needed help to do that. Chelsea was tied up and couldn’t take the kitten soon enough so she asked if we could step in.

One of my fosters, who’s been in the trenches with us through so many cat rescues, immediately reached out to another foster — someone currently caring for a newborn litter born on June 28 — to see if there was any chance mom would accept one more.

The woman who found the kitten rushed her over, and we crossed our fingers.

And… it worked. The momma cat accepted the baby. She’s now nursing, warm, and safe — exactly where she belongs.

It took five of us, each playing a part. Five people to save one tiny life. That’s what rescue really looks like — showing up, trusting each other, and doing what we can when it’s needed most.

🚨 Community, we need your help! 🚨

We’ve been contacted by someone who wants feral cats trapped and removed from her property. We can help—but responsible rescue takes time. It’s not something that can be done overnight. Unfortunately, she’s unwilling to give us the time we need and has instead threatened to:
• Dump the cats at the Humane Society
• Take the kittens to the Everson Market and give them away

We don’t know if these kittens are healthy or sick, and we’re doing our best to intervene responsibly. But we cannot do that unless she cooperates.

🔸 Here’s where you come in 🔸
If you see anyone giving away kittens anywhere in Everson—especially at the market—please take them, no questions asked, and contact us immediately.
We will come get them, make sure they are safe, healthy, and fixed before they’re placed in homes.

Please share this post widely on your Facebook and community pages so we can get ahead of this and protect these animals.

Thank you for being part of the solution. 🐾

Let’s Talk About Feral Cats—and Even Friendly Outdoor Cats Being Fed

This is exactly why it’s so important to reach out early for help—or take action yourself—when you first notice cats showing up. Things can escalate incredibly fast.

We recently stepped in to help what was originally thought to be a group of 15 cats. It had started as just a few, but by the time we were called, it had grown far beyond that. We ended up taking in:
• 7 kittens around 10 weeks old
• 1 adult male
• 1 adult female with 4 newborns
• 3 more adult females—2 of which we knew were pregnant

Everyone was brought back to the rescue. All the kittens are now fixed, one of the moms has had her litter, another is still waiting, and the third—who we thought wasn’t pregnant—turned out to be full-term when we went to spay her. So we didn’t spay, and she’ll be giving birth any day now.

So in just two weeks, we’ve gone from 16 cats to at least 20, with two more litters on the way. If we hadn’t stepped in, this situation could easily have become 30+ unfixed cats by the end of summer.

Here’s the good news: we’re lucky to have Spay Neuter Northwest right here in Ferndale, as well as Skagit Humane Society and NOAH—all of which offer low-cost spay and neuter services and do an excellent job.

But even at a discount, it still costs money—and it’s a lot less expensive and far more manageable when there are just a couple cats versus an entire colony. The earlier you act, the more we can help, and the fewer animals suffer or die.

If you’re feeding outdoor cats, don’t wait. Trap. Fix. Ask for help. Every delay adds kittens—and those kittens grow up and repeat the cycle. Early intervention saves lives.
