We would like to remind everyone that ASD is participating in the Maryland 3000 adoption challenge! Prince George’s County Animal Shelter is partnering up with shelters across the state for the Maryland 3000 Campaign! Throughout the month of August, we’re offering WAIVED ADOPTION FEES for all shelter animals.

This is a fantastic opportunity to welcome a new furry friend into your home without the adoption fee! Whether you’re looking for a playful pup or just a cuddly cat, our shelter has a variety of animals just for their forever families.

Spread the word and help us reach our goal of finding homes for 3000 animals this month! Come visit us, meet our amazing pets, and make a difference in their lives. Together, we can create happy endings for these lovable companions. Help ASD "Go for Gold!"

Check out these shelter cuties in need of homes:

Mango A550038 1yr old gray female terrier mix that came into the shelter on 07/20/24 as a stray.
This little blue and white girl is stunning and spunky! Mango shows off a waggy tail and full body wiggles in her kennel when the leash comes out. She loves pets and scratches and will sit right beside you to allow you to shower her with affection. She is a medium energy level. Mango pulls initially on leash, but once she has time to go potty and stretch her legs she settles into a nice pace with minimal pulling. At just over a year old, Mango is still young and will benefit from regular exercise and additional leash training - walks around the neighborhood, a yard to frolic, or maybe even a hike - she's a dog that can do it all! Mango knows "sit" and "down" but sometimes tricks you into thinking she doesn't know them to see if she can get a treat anyway. Sneaky! She's a smart girl who is treat motivated (she can be picky with them and has a more refined palate than your average pup) so learning new trick and commands will help her bond with her new family and keep her on the path of being the #1 good girl. After Mango gets her physical and mental exercise (plus snacks...lots of snacks), she will be ready to snooze on a comfy dog bed or a couch in her forever home. Does Mango sound like a potential match? Come meet her today!

Bronny A550336 1yr old black male terrier mix that came into the shelter as a stray on 07/31/2024.
Please don't pass by Bronny's kennel when visiting our shelter. He's a smol, shy, quiet boy that is a little overwhelmed by the shelter environment. It may take him a few minutes to warm up to you when you first meet him but earning his trust and seeing glimmers of his Loverboy and silly playful side are so worth it. Tasty treats and a kind hand win him over within a few minutes. Bronny walks very well on a leash with no pulling. His new family should continue leash training with him so that he keeps these good manners up even when he's a bit more confident. Bronny is a perfect smedium size just under 40lbs. He's compact enough to fit in the backseat of any car and would love to learn all about pup cups in his new home. Did we forget to mention his ears? One is a perfect Dorito shape while the other points straight up. Simply irresistible. A family and home that will allow Bronny to decompress and come out of his shell will be rewarded with a soft sweet boy right by your side ready to do life.

Need something to do today? Come to our animal shelter and meet adoptable Leroy A550088!!!

Leroy is a 2yr old white male terrier mix. He came into our facility as a stray and sadly no owner has come forward. Leroy won staff over with his sweet nature and stunning looks. This is what's said about Leroy:

"Is your husband ready for a little competition? Because Leroy is here to steal your heart! Leroy is attentive, affectionate, and absolutely loves to be close for cuddles. He’s a dream on the leash, making him the perfect walking companion who checks in often with his handler to make sure you’re just as happy as he is. Don’t miss out on this sweet and loving guy—hurry to meet Leroy today!"

Leroy is available for adoption to residents outside of Prince George’s County.

Happy Saturday!

We want to take a moment to highlight the importance of our foster program.

Our foster program allows cats like Polly, a mom with kitten's time to decompress and show her true personality in a home setting. It also allows time for her kittens to be of adoption age. Fostering also reduces fear, stress and anxiety by removing her from a shelter and placing her into a temporary home.

Thanks to all of our wonderful foster parents that assist in our life saving efforts, we are always looking for new fosters, to become a foster please email [email protected]

08/23/2024

Good morning and TGIF!!!

We are so excited to announce that we had 23 adoptions and 5 redemptions (return to owner) yesterday alone!

While we had a successful day yesterday in getting dogs placed, we also had 47 intakes to include 21 stray animals

We have many wonderful dogs of all sizes, breeds and temperament levels that are looking for their FURever homes!

Today's highlight is Shadow A549674 a 2yr old black male terrier. He came in as a stray and has been at our facility since 07/09/2024. This is what his bio reads:

"Shadow A549674

Shadow is such a calm boy. I can see his future on someone’s couch, tv surfing and napping. He walks great on a leash, after he easily allows you to leash him up. He was unbothered by barking dogs in their kennels when we passed by. Shadow went potty right away and several times, indicating he is probably housebroken. He did really well meeting Umi, a female Husky and wagged his tail the whole time, wanting to play.
Shadow will do well with a pup friend.

He didn’t seem to interest in toys, but that could be because he was just happy to be outside and smelling all the new smells. He was very interested in love and pets and wagged his tail the whole time. He loves treats and takes them gently. Shadow does know ‘sit’ and will be more than willing to learn more commands, especially if treats are involved. He is such a kind and calm boy that will make an awesome addition to a chill family."

Shadow is hoping to find his FURever home as soon as possible! We want to remind everyone that we are STILL participating in the Maryland 3000 adoption promotion waiving ALL adoption fees through the end of August.

Good afternoon!

We are excited to announce that are placement room has opened back up to the public for walk throughs.

You will be able to meet wonderful animals such as India A550659
a 6yr old brown female terrier mix, this is what her bio reads:

"India is a calm and gentle soul who’s looking for her forever home. This lovely girl is easy to leash up and has great kennel manners, not bothered by the barking dogs in their kennels as we passed by. India walks great on a leash and is thrilled to be outside, her tail wagging with delight. She went potty right away during our walk, indicating she may be housebroken.

With her adorable ears and affectionate nature, India is a stunner. She is a happy and kind girl. Although she’s not too interested in treats, India is interested in pleasing her human and getting affection."

***ADOPTED***Or Ceasar A545900 a 2yr old white male German Shepherd that is no stranger to the shelter. (Lyme positive) This is what his bio reads:

"Caesar is a high energy, beautiful white German Shepard. He is very excitable in his kennel as well as outside. This working dog will need someone who can match his energy. He is more interested in treats and fetching his favorite purple toy than receiving affection. However, I’m sure after he gets his exercise, he would appreciate some love and pets. He wants you to throw the toys but doesn’t let you pick them up easily to do so. So, he would benefit with some basic training as well. He walks pretty well on a leash and doesn’t bark too much. He was not bothered by the barking dogs that we passed in their kennels. He knows how to ‘sit’ and will be a dog that can easily learn more commands. He needs a person or family that can commit to this type of breed: stimulation, exercise, and training. Do you need a hiking partner? Look no further! How about a dog who wants to learn agility? Caesar is your main man! This type of dog, if trained properly, is the type of dog you will always want to have in the future."

Both dogs are not showing their best here at the facility and are hoping to find their FURever home as soon as possible! We want to remind everyone that we are STILL participating in the Maryland 3000 adoption promotion waiving ALL adoption fees through the end of August.

***ADOPTED***
We have a plethora of adoptable animals at our shelter, but every so often one captures your heart.

Meet Tiffany Blue A466572 a 7yr old blue terrier mix that came into our shelter as a stray. Sadly no one came looking for her and she is now available for adoption. This is what her bio reads:

"Tiffany Blue is the definition of a sweetie pie. When she first got to the shelter, she was fearful, slowly as staff and volunteers took her for walks, she realized that we are here to help her. She is 7yrs old and walks well on leash, she also eliviates almost immediately after being taken out. She takes a little while to feel comfortable, but once she does, she will relax into the bed and take treats. Tiffany Blue is a beautiful, sweet senior girl that is looking for a second chance at her FURever home!

Come meet Tiffany Blue today!!!"
