They prepare vaccines, monitor anesthesia, run the ultrasound machine, take X-rays, explain medications to owners, write reports, examine cytologies, comfort pets, and so much more! Turtle surprise! We don’t normally see turtles but a Good Samaritan brought a box turtle with a cracked bottom shell (called a plastron) and Dr Salmond coordinated with PG Animal Control to have the turtle taken to a wildlife rescue so he could get his shell repaired. 🐢

Do you worry your senior dog is starting to show signs of discomfort? Is your dog stiff in the morning, having trouble getting up and down stairs, whimpers occasionally for no reason, or maybe just isn’t willing to go for the same walks he or she used to love? Maybe you’re are seeing your dog limp occasionally. We have good news for you! Librela is now available! Librela is a monoclonal antibody injection that inhibits nerve growth factor, thereby decreasing the pain in arthritic dogs. Dogs that receive this injection may not need to stay on other pain medications. The wonderful thing about Librela is that it is very safe and has little to no side-effects. Librela is given once a month to reduce pain from arthritis in dogs. We recommend giving your dog a trial of Librela for at least 2-3 months to see if your dog is responding well before continuing Librela long-term. Here’s some tips to keep your dog from getting overheated!
- Give your dog plenty of access to shade and water
- Check the pavement to make sure it’s not too hot
- Limit time outside. Do longer walks early in morning or later in evening when it’s cooler.
- Be careful with short-nosed (brachycephalic) dogs who may have trouble breathing in the heat
- Watch for signs of heat stroke: symptoms include excessive panting, labored breathing, red gums, and excessive drooling. Visit the following link to the Animal Humane Society for more information:
