nest, non judging, and loving creatures ever put on this earth and their devotion to their family is endless. Wonderful dogs are dying everyday simply because there are not enough homes for them. The majority of the dogs we rescue are what we call at risk. Most often that means they are in a kill shelter and are at risk of being euthanized. We often take dogs that are hard to place sometimes that is due to age, breed, or behavioral issues. One by one we will neuter and vaccinate them. One by one we will find them loving homes

We are a Doggie Detour for the lost, forgotten, surrendered, used up, too big , too small, too old,won’t hunt, dumped, abused and unwanted . Our rescue hopes to be a short detour from near death to a loving forever home.

Heaven got another angel.
I was just notified that after some heart trouble they had to say goodbye to Pixie yesterday.
She was one of 3 dogs we took in that were living in filthy conditions.
I'm glad to know that she was spoiled and loved

Mojo is enjoying his extended yard after some family members added a fence line along the creek.
Mojo was originally Marion County Ohio Dog Pound . He was one of those dogs that barked ferociously at people when anyone would approach his cage. Outside of the kennel he was an angel.

This little cutie found his forever home.
Mom and Dad are home all day to hang and him.
He has 2 canine and 3 feline friends for companionship. The Poodle is 4 yr old so will be a great playmate, while the senior dog will show him the ropes.
His house is completely surrounded with fencing so is he tries bolting out the door he will still be safe, he hasnt really done that much lately anyway.

This is a very good deal on ID tags for your pets.

Charlie is a sanctuary dog here at Doggie Detour.
He is getting very grey and slowing down a lot this year.
While I'm glad to see him resting on this very soft bed today it also makes me a little sad because Charlie has always destroyed every bed we have given him over the years

Just bathed and nails are much shorter now.
Nails are my least favorite thing to do.
I think he is coming along nicely so far.

So we did a little grooming. Here are before and after, but not finished pictures.
I can't stand when a dog can't see so I cut his little bangs a bit and on top of his head. I clipped his body kind of short and cleaned up his feet.
His toenails are extremely long so we will tackle that and a bath tomorrow.
If he is up for it after that, I'll trim up his legs, head and face some more late tomorrow. I want him to feel better but not over stress him.
He was excellent for his grooming so far. I used my new Furme which I use a lot with my other dogs and cats.
It is a vacuum with a brush ,deshedder and clipper attachments. It has 3 speeds for the nervous ones and cats which is nice.
It leaves very little mess behind when you are done which is the best thing about it. When you are done you just pack it up.

We picked up Bo yesterday.
This is what we know...
He is a little over a year old and neutered and has a natural tail. He probably weighs between10lbs -15lbs.
He lived with a Chihuahua and has met one of my small dogs as well as a cat and did fine. He will bolt out the door.

*****. He is NOT HOUSEBROKEN at all. I will be starting crate training while he is here, as he has had free reign at his previous home.

There will be a ton of applications on him as Yorkies are always very popular.
So If you do not have a great vet reference, personal references and a secure fenced yard, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY.
Keep in mind he will need regular grooming and this can get very expensive.
I am not in a rush to rehome him so if you are in a hurry for a dog this may not be the one for you.
He needs a bath, some grooming, nails done and I am also waiting on his vet records.

Mitzi is the 2nd dog that has gone to the bridge this week.
Mitzi came to us back in 2019. She was an older, overbred, puppy mill mom that we pulled from Champaign County Animal Welfare League
She was adopted quickly and was loved by a family until 2023 when she was returned due to unforseen family situation.
Thankfully a previous 2 time adopter were sympathetic to her situation and took her in.
Mitzi was very under socialized from living in a cage for so many years so change wasn't an easy for her. Being fearful of everything made it hard for her to warm up to people but they gave her a safe, loving home with respect for her space.
This morning she had what they think was a very bad stroke. She was not even able to stand up so it was decided it was the kindest thing to let her go.

To my sweet, sweet Sera Sue aka Sera Sue-y Gooey. I love you and miss you already. Giver of kisses and cudfles. Stealer of food and treats, pizza and steak when no one is looking or even when they are. Runner of adventures far and wide. Overcomer of obstacles like fences and cables and doors. Nothing held you back. You were and are still tenacious with your Coonhound spirit and nose. My sweet girl, you fought mammary cancer and bladder cancer, you kept going for me. And my heart is breaking for you now. Thank you Sera for being an unexpected blessing full of unexpected adventures and unexpected miracles. You taught me so much! Thank for accepting me with my human flaws and loving me anyway. Someday I will see you again sweet Sera. Until then, go with Jesus, your creator and the One who will lift the curse of sin from all of creation so that you are made new and someday you and I can talk and you can tell everything you tried to tell me here on earth but I missed because I don’t speak bark-danish. Until that time Sera run to Jesus first and then go to Karla. She’s been wanting to see you for awhile. You were her girl too. She will show you around heaven and I’m pretty sure there is a place for coonhounds at the feast table. I love you Sera Sue-y Gooey.

Carol Corbin sent me home with a bunch of blankets and things for the dogs the other day. Well we found this monkey and one of the bags this evening and as you can see Charlie is already trying to kill it.

Ruby and Charlie have a little fun in the sun. Ruby is a fantastic dog. I wish someone would take a chance on her. I know the fact that she is deaf might be scary for some people but it's not something that really makes a difference in our everyday life anymore. It was a small learning curve with a few hand signals and reminding ourselves that she can't hear and that we have to get her attention visually or with a tap on the floor in the house. The most important thing she needs is protection from getting loose, so a secure fence and responsible owners. Applications available at www.doggiedetour.org

Ruby has been waiting a year for a home of her own. I'm not sure if it is because she is is deaf but she acts like a normal dog. She obviously needs a fenced yard to keep her safe since she can not hear but other than that you need a few hand signals.

Dogs are the most noble, forgiving, honest, non judging, and loving creatures ever put on this earth and their devotion to their family is endless. Wonderful dogs are dying everyday simply because there are not enough homes for them. The majority of the dogs we rescue are what we call at risk. Most often that means they are in a kill shelter and are at risk of being euthanized. The conditions that are found in some of these dog pounds are deplorable as is the case of our local dog pound. Dogs that end up in Wyandot County Dog Pound are often left to live in dirty cages . There is only one Dog Warden that works there, no volunteers are allowed in to help clean or even walk the dogs, nor is there even a small yard to let the dogs stretch for a bit while their cages are being cleaned. These dogs have 3 choices until they are rescued or euthanized they can sit in their urine and f***s, lay in it or stand in it. The worst part is that most people from Upper Sandusky have never even set foot in this building even sadder many do not even know it is here. Public hours are 8am til 10 am Mon. – Fri.. I have personally made a page and an Adopt-A-Pet for Wyandot County Dog Shelter to help these forgotten dogs get adopted or rescued when we are too full to take anymore in.
