Doggie Detour

Doggie Detour Dog Rescue and Rehabilitation. Doggie Detour is a small independent rescue located in Upper Sandusky Ohio. One by one we will continue to save dogs.

Doggie Detour is a not for profit family run rescue and relies solely on adoption fees and donations from kind-hearted people to off set the cost of vetting and caring for the dogs in our care. Doggie Detour is a mission that grew from our love of dogs. We love all kinds of critters but there is no other animal that touches our heart quite like a dog does. Dogs are the most noble, forgiving, ho

nest, non judging, and loving creatures ever put on this earth and their devotion to their family is endless. Wonderful dogs are dying everyday simply because there are not enough homes for them. The majority of the dogs we rescue are what we call at risk. Most often that means they are in a kill shelter and are at risk of being euthanized. We often take dogs that are hard to place sometimes that is due to age, breed, or behavioral issues. One by one we will neuter and vaccinate them. One by one we will find them loving homes

We are a Doggie Detour for the lost, forgotten, surrendered, used up, too big , too small, too old, wonโ€™t hunt, dumped, abused and unwanted . Our rescue hopes to be a short detour from near death to a loving forever home.

I still can't believe that no one wanted to adopt this sweet girl. We tried for years without interest.
Maybe it was because she is a pitbull, maybe its because she is deaf, but either way their loss is our gain

Angel left a little while ago to join her new family.
She will have someone home all day to dote on her, as well as two senior dogs for companionship.
I think they fell in love with her the moment they saw her.

It is George's Mom's birthday today and she sent me a picture of George.
He looks wonderful. He was one of 2 senior we pulled from Humane Society Serving Crawford County years ago.
Both tested positive for heartworm. Thankfully supporters helped cover the costs of their vetting and HW treatments.
Both Annie and George found wonderful homes.

This picture will have to do for now because this little Angel was looking everywhere but at the camera for me tonight. ๐Ÿ˜‚
Tomorrow will be a week since her spay and dental with extractions appt. and she is doing great.
It's been a challenge to keep her quiet.
She is a spunky little girl and it is hard to believe she is 15 yrs old. She is 7 1/2 lbs and can jump on and off the bed, and chase the cat like a 2 yrs old lol
I know she has to feel much better with all those nasty stinky teeth or of her mouth.
Thank you to all who sent money to cover her vet bills and care.

Picked Angel up about 2 hours ago and she is resting nicely.
Everything went very well although she did lose a lot teeth.
She was spayed, brought up to date on vaccines, Heartworm tested, microchipped, and had a much needed dental.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Penelope or as her family called her Pnelly why to the rainbow bridge the other night.
We pulled her back in late 2015 from I believe Wood County.
She waited here with us for over 2 yrs to find her family.
She was a lucky girl to fine a loving family. She went on long beautiful hikes with her hiking buddy.
I'm always so grateful for my fosters to find homes that love then to their end.

What a commotion just to get a picture of old man Charlie(one of our sanctuary dogs) in his new orange collar.
These are the best 4 out of about 30. Most of them were blurs of him dancing, wiggling, or barking

Myra from Knox County Ohio Dog Shelter playing with her brother Darwin also a rescue.
At the very end there is a momentary appearance of their newest adopted member, a Great Pyrenees.

Our Story

. Doggie Detour is a small independent rescue located in Upper Sandusky Ohio. Dogs are the most noble, forgiving, honest, non judging, and loving creatures ever put on this earth and their devotion to their family is endless. Wonderful dogs are dying everyday simply because there are not enough homes for them. The majority of the dogs we rescue are what we call at risk. Most often that means they are in a kill shelter and are at risk of being euthanized. The conditions that are found in some of these dog pounds are deplorable as is the case of our local dog pound. Dogs that end up in Wyandot County Dog Pound are often left to live in dirty cages . There is only one Dog Warden that works there, no volunteers are allowed in to help clean or even walk the dogs, nor is there even a small yard to let the dogs stretch for a bit while their cages are being cleaned. These dogs have 3 choices until they are rescued or euthanized they can sit in their urine and f***s, lay in it or stand in it. The worst part is that most people from Upper Sandusky have never even set foot in this building even sadder many do not even know it is here. Public hours are 8am til 10 am Mon. โ€“ Fri.. I have personally made a page and an Adopt-A-Pet for Wyandot County Dog Shelter to help these forgotten dogs get adopted or rescued when we are too full to take anymore in. One by one we will continue to save dogs. One by one we will neuter and vaccinate them. One by one we will find them loving homes We are a Doggie Detour for the lost, forgotten, surrendered, used up, too big , too small, too old, wonโ€™t hunt, dumped, abused and unwanted .
