How Periodontal Disease Develops in Pets:
The cause of gum disease is the same in cats and dogs as it is in people. Gum disease is an infection resulting from build-up of soft dental plaque on the surfaces of the teeth around the gums. The bacteria in dental plaque irritate the gum tissue if plaque is allowed to accumulate, which often leads to infection in the bone surrounding the teeth. Hard dental tartar (calculus) consists of calcium salts from saliva deposited on plaque. Tartar starts to form within a few days on a tooth surface that is not kept clean, and provides a rough surface that enhances further plaque accumulation. Once it has begun to grow in thickness, tartar is difficult to remove without dental instruments.
Here is a video of our technician using the ultrasonic scaler to remove tartar from a patient's tooth. Preventative dental care is key to oral health.
Sister Ester likes the new catnip toy!! She didn't even share with Vivienne.

Anyone have any room in their hearts for these black/silver stray medium haired kittens? They are cuddly, 6 week old brothers. Need new homes ASAP. Give us a call and we can put you in touch with our client who found them.
Food is always a great distraction for a guinea pig!! Winston was so busy munching on his greens that he didn't notice we were treating his sore foot with a medicated soak!!!
As some of you know, Ellie the hospital mascot, has not been well. She had chronic diarrhea and vomiting. She has been through several tests and an exploratory surgery to biopsy her stomach, intestines and other tissues. The biopsy came back as IBD/lymphoma.
Dr. Dixon started her on chemotherapy. As you can see from the this video, she is feeling much better and is back to demanding that we share our lunches with her!!!
We had fun feeding Tiko today🐢
HELLO TO BENA!
Such a sweet face and the personality to match! She is one great guinea pig!
Overgrown beaks can be a problem for turtles and make it difficult for them to eat. Just like Goldie, the star of our video, who needed a beak trim to reshape it!
