A little extra chunk never hurt anybody 😍

Meet Trixie! This happy girl came to us while we were helping out a sanctuary that was overwhelmed with dogs. You may notice a cute underbite poking out, but unfortunately, the backstory isn’t as cute. Prior to arriving at the sanctuary, Trixie had a broken jaw — and after being left untreated for all those years, her cute smile became crooked. It breaks our hearts to think about the pain she must have endured, but luckily, it hasn't slowed her down one bit.

Trixie definitely hasn't missed a meal in quite some time, but despite her extra plumpness, she’s actually very active and would love a home that can keep up with her activity level and help her shed a few pounds. Her DNA records even show she's part Australian Shepherd, so we’d love to see those energy levels shine through for her!

Trixie loves to play just as much as she loves to cuddle — she’ll wiggle her way as close as she can to you for some extra boops 😘 And she gets along with the big THREE - dogs, cats, and kids! At 5 years old, this girl has so much life left to live, and we can't wait to find her a home where all her dreams can come true.

Trixie is spayed, current on vaccines, and microchipped. Stop-in or apply here to adopt: https://www.anitas-sshs.org/adopt/apply/Dog

Peanut Butter needs out of the shelter NOW ‼️

Meet Peanut Butter. This poor boy is so shut down in the shelter. Peanut Butter came to us as a surrender when his previous home went into foreclosure and his owner had nowhere to go but their car. From the moment he was brought to us, Peanut Butter has hated walking through those shelter doors.

He’s just under a year old and had lived a great life up until now. He lived with other dogs and kids (elementary school age), walks well on a leash, is continuing to learn commands, and loves earning treats. But the shelter is no place for him—and he’s really struggling to adjust in such an unfamiliar environment.

While we’re giving Peanut Butter the best care and patience possible, nothing compares to the freedom, comfort, and love of a real home. He does great when leaving the shelter for outside kennel time, but when it’s time to go back in, his fears return—he pulls toward the parking lot, hoping one of the cars is his ride out of here. The confinement, the noise, and the constant movement of the shelter are overwhelming for him.

We’d love to get Peanut Butter into a foster home—or even better, a foster-to-adopt home—so he can truly come out of his shell and let those big ears match his big personality.

Please share Peanut Butter and help us find him the comfort he deserves. Peanut Butter is a 1 year old American Pit Bull/Terrier Mix and weighs 50 pounds. Peanut Butter is neutered, current on vaccines, and microchipped. Call (315) 738-4357 or apply here for more information: https://www.anitas-sshs.org/adopt/apply/Dog

Abby spent three days alone after her owner passed—waiting for someone to find her 😞

This is Abby. This sweet senior girl came to us while we were helping out a sanctuary that was overwhelmed with dogs. Abby didn’t spend much time at the sanctuary, but before arriving there, she had endured something quite heartbreaking—she spent three days in a home with her deceased owner before anyone found them. The only life Abby had ever known was suddenly gone.

The sanctuary was kind enough to take her in, as the surviving family had planned to euthanize her. We were happy to step in, and once Abby was in our care, we discovered she hadn’t been receiving the best care over the years. We were able to successfully remove all visible tumors and treat a persistent infection in the nail bed and bone of her front left paw.

Abby is an absolute sweetheart who just wants to be near you. She's healing up and walks well on a leash and has lovely manners. We can’t imagine how these sudden transitions have affected her, but we continue to do everything we can to lift her spirits. Now, we’re eager to find her a home where she can finally rest and soak up all the love and attention she deserves in her golden years.

Abby is a Hound mix, weighing just 45 pounds. She gets along well with other dogs and cats, and we’re open to meet-and-greets with children.

Please help us get this sweet girl out of the shelter by the weekend 🙏 Abby is spayed, current on vaccines, and microchipped. Stop-in or apply here to adopt: https://www.anitas-sshs.org/adopt/apply/Dog

These sweet pups need out of the shelter 😔

Meet Cooper (first) and Doc (second)! These sweet 6-month-old boys came to us when part of a litter needed to be surrendered. They’re just a little over 6 months now and do not belong in the shelter environment.

They’re sweet little boys with a little extra plumpness to love on. They get excited to be around people and would love nothing more than to just snuggle up and finally feel safe in a home. They even have a bit of house training under their belt—like any transition, they’ll need some time and help adjusting to a new routine, but they’re eager to please!

They get along with kids, cats, and other dogs. Plus, they get along great with each other—so they can go together if you’re ready for two sweet pups at once!

Let’s bust them out of the shelter by the weekend! Cooper and Doc are Cattle-dog Mixes, neutered, current on vaccines, and microchipped. Stop-in or apply here to adopt: https://www.anitas-sshs.org/adopt/apply/Dog
