Gus the 8 month old Golden Retriever loves to dig in his owner's yard. They made him this awesome digging box so that he can dig to his heart's content, in a place where it won't be destructive! They put some toys and sticks into the dirt to make it even more enticing, but it looks like that wasn't even needed. š Gus is one lucky pup! š
Sāmores the Bernedoodle and Bruce the Golden Retriever playing in my yard. š¤š
Iām taking care of Maui the 3 month old Dachshund and Andi the 1 year old whippet for a bit. When they first met, Maui was intimidated and Andi wasnāt handicapping herself enough in her play invitations. Just half a day later, look how well theyāre both doing! š
Unedited video of one of Maui the 3 month Dachshundās training sessions while she stays with me for Puppy Camp. š¤
Bruce the 6 month old golden retriever practices āleave itā with food on the counter and down-stay in a different bed than heās used to - he didnāt like this bed as much. š He also had a little too much energy to be truly successful with the down-stay, as seen by the toy play at the end. Itās important to help young dogs learn good habits and reduce frustration by giving them plenty of exercise and enrichment before asking them to settle.
Bruce the 6 month old golden retriever showing off how heās learned not to rush out when I open the baby gate. He can also do this at the front door and when exiting his crate.
Bruce the 6 month old golden retriever practices a 13 minute down stay on his bed while I cook. What a good boy!
Unedited training lesson with Teddy on grooming via the Bucket Game, focusing on the left side of his head.
Part 3 of this eveningās training: trying to train eye contact, but there were some extra distractions.
Part 2 of this eveningās training: lots of brushing via cooperative care
Teddy had a LOT of training this evening! Hereās part 1, this time without Phoebeās barking or scratching because I remembered about my Pet Tutor and it was dispensing her dinner a few kibbles at a time. Putting on the harness and stay on a mat.
Here is a long, unedited video of Teddy the 5 month old doodle practicing being calm for putting on his harness, calm brushing, go to bed, heeling (foundation for leash walking), not jumping, and not mouthing during petting.
Teddy the 5 month old doodle is staying with me for Puppy Camp. Today is his third day. Here we are practicing go to bed, stay, get your toy (instead of mouthing my hand), playing tug, drop it, and not jumping up.
Duke the American Bulldog puppy is learning to heel on leash both forward and backward. Heās going to be a very big, strong boy, so we want him to have a good understanding of moving away from leash pressure rather than pulling forward.
How to switch an Easy Walk or Sense-ation harness from front to back clip and back, without completely taking it off the dog!
Cai, my 10 year old Papillon, being cute and rubbing his back. š
I was trying to get a video of Cai, my 10 year old Papillon, awkwardly playing with Phoenix, the 2 year old English Shepherd. Of course as soon as they see me watching, they stop and want attention from me, instead.
Some clips from agility class this past Wednesday with baby dog Phoenix. Left in some of our mistakes - weāre just beginners! I walk him past the weave poles and teeter because heās not fully trained on those obstacles yet. Iām super proud of his a-frame contact though!
Phoenix and I doing a short sequence in agility class. Other than the sneaky sniff after the fourth jump, we were working well as a team. š§”
4 dogs = mass chaos when people come in the house! One very easy way to make it more tolerable (especially if not all the dogs are trained) is simply scattering treats on the floor as soon as there is a knock/doorbell or the door opens. Repeat as needed - multiple dogs will scarf all the treats up quickly, so I had to throw out a few handfuls. They were then able to greet the guests more calmly, and not all at once.
My favorite part is at 52 seconds, when I toss another handful and Phoenix tries to catch them all in his mouth.
Youāll see that Terra goes back and forth between this area and the bedroom off to the right - she is still nervous about my dad and canāt commit fully to being in the same room as he enters. Having the ability to retreat when sheās overwhelmed is critical to helping her feel more secure.
