Our volunteer Pam brought a colorful door screen for the cat room door. The cats pass through it easily. They are curious and entertained by the mylar ribbons, and it keeps flies out too. Thank you Pam!
Girl Scout, Eloise Gafni did her Silver Award project for Animal Refugee Response. She visited today and presented a wonderful basket full of hand made dog and cat toys, blankets and bandanas for our animals. Thank you, Eloise. Very good job on this project!
Now that’s how it done! Junior runs Rusty and Angel up the hill.
They love it!
Rest in Peace, Kona
Beautiful Kona died today. She waited for me to finish my work with the other animals, and when I was by her side, she took her last breath. She was a few days shy of her 16th birthday.
Kona’s favorite thing in the world was my husband, Vince. She took so much pride in sitting beside him in the front seat of his truck. During the busy season when the printing presses operated 24/7, Kona stayed with him, even stretching out next to him on the couch when he was able to close his eyes for a few minutes. And just before my husband died, he told Kona to protect me. She took that duty seriously.
When we had to evacuate a few years ago, all the animals stayed in the evacuation center except three, who stayed with me: Sweet Pea, because she cannot endure being caged, Teddy, because he is just too disabled, and Kona, because she needed to keep her promise to Vince.
She also adored my son, who remembers coming back from deployment in Fallujia and taking Kona for long walks. Kona would pull that Marine for miles.
Kona loved rolling in the grass and patrolling the property each day. I am hoping heaven has a huge meadow that she can enjoy, once again by Vince’s side.
