Please send Butters healing vibes, prayers, whatever your sending good out into the universe entails…
Friday, he vomited in the morning before our walk but are his breakfast. We went on a little hike and when we got back, he got sick a couple of times again. I ran some errands and then came back to two more massive piles of vomit. He was pretty quiet all day and we figured he ate something he shouldn’t have and would be better Saturday. He refused all food but did drink a bit of water.
He was sick a couple of times in the night that night, so I called the weekend emergency vet in silverthorne on Saturday am. We took him over there and they were wonderful; they did X-rays looking for a blockage but nothing showed up really. They gave him a shot for nausea and some fluids and said he should stop vomiting within 2 hrs. We headed home and hoped he would start feeling better.
He did not get better, and continued to be sick. I called silverthorne back and they said they were very concerned and we should probably take him down to Denver to a larger vet where they could treat overnight etc.
We ended up at VRCC in Denver around 830 Saturday night and they hydrated and monitored him overnight. Sunday, they were able to do an ultrasound of his belly and saw a small blockage in his intestines. They were hopeful that since it seemed small, it might move along with enough hydration and some food.
Long story short, a repeat ultrasound yesterday showed it did not move at all, so Butters had surgery in the late afternoon/evening there. They removed a very small piece of something similar to corn cob texture that was pretty stuck to his intestines and couldn’t be pushed or maneuvered up or down. He is recovering well and hopefully we will be able to pick him up tomorrow.
We are missing our sweet boy and hoping he will be home soon. Also, don’t ignore your gut when it comes to your pets; if we had ignored ours, it’s likely our dog would no longer be with us.
Thanks for thinking of him, I’ll update when he’s home. ❤️ 🦴 ❤️
