Heeling off leash with your dog is like a dance
Focus on making the basics perfect. That is the mantra. I repeat in my head when it comes to dog training as well as everything else in life. We spent too much time looking at exploring difficult things without first perfecting the basics.
The focused heel is the basic of basics in dog training. It is also my very favorite exercise, the one I find the most beautiful, the most poetic, and the one that symbolizes the relationship between the handler and the dog. It is the one exercise you can do with a young puppy, while teaching him, and with a very old dog. It is the glue that cement the relationship Between the dog and human.
In my opinion, it takes forever to perfect this exercise and it is a skill you work on forever. Good thing I like doing it. 😆
So grateful to have Schmuley in my life. He is truly a godsend because he is infusing, joy, and fun back into my days. I love all of my dogs, and Shmuley is such a welcomed addition.
Grateful for the coaching of and
Thank you to Janet Caroline Brown for the awesome pic

Be your dog’s biggest fan 🤩
Here lately, I have heard too many horror stories of these “purely positive” trainers telling owners that their dog should be “behaviorally euthanized”. What is more ridiculous, and scary, is some of these owners are actually taking this advice and going through with it without seeking a second opinion from a more qualified balanced trainer for these situations.
If you, or someone you know, have been given the advice to put your dog down by any trainer; please do your due diligence and seek out a second opinion or other options. I promise you, MORE qualified trainers are out there and WE are willing to help!
The PP/FF people will stand on the rooftops and scream “stop the shock”, but will happily tell you to kill your dog because, as trainers, they are not equipped and knowledgeable enough to help you with the situation. Behavioral euthanasia is a real thing, but it’s not as common as some of these “trainers” are trying to make you believe.

Not everyone can take in a foster but we can all give a little to feed a puppy.
Donating is easy through local pet stores, Chewy or you can deliver it yourself and visit a dog.
If you think you aren’t Mobil enough to do agility check this Friday inspiration!

A fun game title with your dog. I love these for the dogs learning and building skills together.
Fetch them, roll them, dunk them, or balance on top of them… For all of our ball-loving dogs; this one’s for you! Earn your Pentathlon Series “Balls” title by demonstrating 10 tricks using a ball. 3. Balance on top of a yoga ball
4. Muffin Tin Game with tennis balls
5. Ball Pit Game: Find the treat/toy hidden in a box full of balls
6. Catch a ball

Maureen Koepp good one to save for training
Speaking of challenging training courses, this Iwona Golab course has many training challenges all packed into a 25mx20m or 80'x65' space! The lines are surprisingly long I'm saving this one to setup in my yard in the Spring! I've put the link to her post in the comments. Here is the map with an imperial 10' grid overlaid by my Agility Course Master app for non-metric folk.

Feelin Groovy!! Our foster dog Prince Kirby, is just loving this cooler weather! You can see him smoking when he stops at the toy. Lovin the freedom!!
In basic obedience class last night we put the “sit” and “wait” together for good door manners. At home practice this on an interior door before the front door where getting outside is exciting.
PUPPY CLASS! Is my favorite to teach. Watching these young pups learn life skills early and be able to put them into practice right away. Weeks 1 & 2 learn sit, down, attention and come. Week 3 build a confident puppy who can do those things around distractions, objects and while other pups play! That’s a WIN!! Congratulations 🎉
I was at Bratty Paws Dog Plex in Punta Gorda, Florida competing in agility this weekend. My favorite run today was with my big boy Zorro! That great feeling when it comes together as a team.
I have the cutest board and train dog for the week and the sweetest helper. Since Hope, the Skiperke, is unsure of people Nate was letting her choose if she was comfortable to stay with him.
If you think teaching TRICKS is silly… Just watch this ⬇️ Relationship ➕ understanding ➕communication
Zorro’s runs at the Tallahassee Dog Obedience Agility trial. In one run he misplaced a foot on the dog walk so jumped off. In another run I didn’t keep up and he took an off course. He qualified in all jumpers runs and more. To me all his runs were lovely! He did everything I asked of him and showed me that he’s ready for more!
Puppy Class is so much fun!!! Rolling pool noodles, treasure boxes, buckets, toys and balls….. Tonight’s lesson was building confidence, doing brave things and learning to listen in an exciting environment. These pups did so good!!
Tallahassee Dog Obedience Club’s indoor trial with air conditioning is a welcome break from the heat to run with our dogs.
