Please remember that dogs are living beings that may need refreshers, become distracted, or simply have an "off" day, just like humans. If your dog has been trained to perform a specific skill and suddenly appears to lack focus or proficiency, consider the potential causes before becoming irritated. Are you in a new or overstimulating environment where your dog has not received prior training? Has it been more than six months since you last asked your dog to perform this skill? Regardless of the reason, it is advisable to revert to basic training and attempt again to ensure success.
We like to stress the importance of consistency here at @nexgenk9 as much as possible.
Here, Rob specifically discusses the consistency in our tones and words we are using to provide clear communication to our dogs.
The intonation of your voice and the consistency in the commands/cues you give your dogs are of utmost importance for reliable and consistent behaviors. If you alter the manner in which you verbally deliver a cue, your dog will likely be unable to comprehend your request and completed it as desired.

Thresholds can be a challenging training milestone for many dogs, as they often lead to new and exciting adventures. It is important to ask our dogs for some energy control by giving them a position to be held accountable to prior to the door opening. Most importantly, giving your dog their cue to walk with you (we use the word "heel") is crucial when walking out the front door to ensure calmness, control, and success on your walk.
It is crucial when working with dogs, whether in a professional capacity or as a personal pet owner, that we pay close attention to their attempts to communicate with us.
Although dogs lack the ability to verbally express their feelings, they excel at conveying them through their body language and behavior.
Thank you @napacountyanimalshelter for having our Trainers out to work with your volunteers on learning about dog behavior and body language! π
In short, dog training is a science. πΆ

Although humorous, it is true that trainers may have differing opinions. However, it is important to remember that there are various effective training techniques and strategies available. The key to success is ensuring fairness, clarity, and consistency in communication with our dogs. As long as these principles are upheld, we support all trainers who are dedicated to their craft.

Running through some of our slides for our upcoming volunteer seminar for the Napa County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center next week!
We always enjoy getting the opportunity to bring some knowledge and experience to the newer volunteers and staff members in our local animal shelters.
p.s. This quick little snippet of a bigger video is Rob responding to the video on the previous slide.
The weather has been amazing lately, so we took the pups for a walk down to the creek

Help us get the funds raised to send Lucy for #PoliceDog training with @Sector K9 Foundation in Texas!
So far we only have raised $210 and we need a total of $5500. After she graduates from training, she will be donated to a #PoliceDeparment in need of a detection K9!
Please venmo @ slindquist0521 and specify the name "Lucy" in the comments section. or DM for other ways to donate if you can't do venmo.
