Hello!! We’re still here. It’s been a while…

We have had to scale back rescues for the past few months. The fear of Avian Flu, being completely full (actually overwhelmed with so many birds and so little space), and Loretta having to go back to work.

We are now operating as more of a sanctuary than a rescue. We have completely maxed out our space. We are committed to keeping all the birds we have taken in and giving them a lifelong home. But in doing so, we simply cannot take in any more.

If we can build more coops and fence in another area, then we will start to rescue again.

Thank you all for your continued support and well wishes. All the beautiful birds are healthy, thriving, and happy!

Updates:
Lucky now has a little girlfriend, as we had to move CB up to live with him due to being overmated by the Pekins. She and Lucky get along well and are inseparable. She’s even teaching him to swim in their little pool!

Henry’s little goose family is doing amazing. His goslings are growing so fast they’re almost bigger than him! He continues to be the very best goose daddy in the world. And we continue to be utterly in love with him.

We will continue to help rescue abandoned domestic ducks and geese by aiding in getting them to other rescues.

My heart is overflowing. Henry has a family again. 💛💛💛

He has adopted the four goslings and is the very best father. He clearly had children in the past. And having them now has given him a new lease on life. He is so happy! 🥰waterfowl

Little Daisy has developed “angel wing” so we’ve wrapped her wings and are having her outside for more exercise. We’re also changing her diet to lower protein and more veggies.

Daisy is still the sweetest, friendliest little Muscovy!! ❤️

Look who has become a daddy and adopted the two goslings…Henry!!! ❤️

We moved the goslings down into a brooder in Henry’s coop last night. This morning he wouldn’t let us get near them. They are his babies now!

My heart is so full. For both the babies and for Henry. I so love that old goose. 🥰

Meet the newest rescue, Daisy! ❤️

She showed up on a front lawn in Manhattan Beach a couple of weeks ago. An amazing young lady and her mother took her in and took wonderful care of her.

They brought her to us yesterday and she has quickly become a new favorite snuggle buddy of Jason’s.

She’s confident, yet sweet, and easily gets along with our dogs, cats, and other baby waterfowl.

She appears to be a young Muscovy. S*x unknown but we’re all calling “her” in hopes of having a girl. Too many drakes round here!

Our baby has left the nest.
Pickles is now officially down with the big birds. 🦆

It's bittersweet. I'm happy Pickles is old enough, big enough, and brave enough to
meet the flock. But I'm also sad because Pickles has been the snuggliest and sweetest duckling we've ever had.

We're trying to spend as much time with Pickles down there as possible so maybe they'll stay sweet for a while longer! 💛

And we still don't know if Pickles is a he or a she. Really hoping a she. We have way
too many hormonal boys. 🙄

Pickles needed a bigger brooder, and has to be in the same room as us, so kiddie pool to the rescue.

We’re waiting to see what gender Pickles is before we place them in one of the outside coops. We’re thinking a girl 🤞🏼

And yes, Pickles still likes to snuggle. 💛

We brought Sherman, Don, Gerry, Earl, Abe, and George. The boys are all being very well behaved and friendly! 🦆

Adoption is always the goal. But we’re also out here educating people on the dangers of dumping domestic ducks and geese.

Our little rescue was on the news!

CBS 8 San Diego morning show was kind
enough to do a spot on this weekend's VC
Pet Fest.

We brought Pickles, Lucky, and Gerry. I
held Pickles during the shoot, Lucky got to
walk around in his cute bow tie, and Gerry
looked extra handsome in the pen.

We got a few quick minutes to talk about
abandoning ducklings and our rescue
efforts.

These two handsome fellas will be on TV tomorrow!!

We will be appearing on the San Diego CBS 8 morning show at 8:45 am to take about the rescue, and the upcoming Pets Fest this weekend.

We’re bringing Lucky and the three adoptable black Swedish brothers.

Look who’s making friends…Pickles!

We took Pickles down to the bird yard with us for the day while we worked on the new coop.

Pickles worked on socializing with the ladies. Even made friends with all the chickens, particularly Bea Arthur. 💛

Pickles is still too young to be outside full time with the flock. Plus, Pickles is so bonded with Jason, we may keep them near the house.

But this is progress!

They made it! Both are alive and well. Thanks to Lisa at our little rural Valley Center post office, who kindly tracked them down last night and even came in today in her day off to make sure I got them.

They’re both doing well, just hungry and cold. Lots of snuggles coming their way later! ❤️

Devastated. The US Postal Service] has “lost” the two precious baby geese today.

No updated tracking info for past 48 hours. Customer service, who was rude, could care less. She literally said to me “they’re just birds”.

They have NO idea where the shipment is since Wednesday at 4:34 pm.

Shame on you US Postal Service] these are LIVE animals. Do better!

Thank you to the local post office here in Valley Center who has been tirelessly working all day to find my babies.

Happy Easter. And here’s our friendly reminder that ducks are longtime pets.

They can live for 10+ years. They have feelings, form bonds, and often imprint on humans.

Domestic ducks cannot survive in the wild. Especially once you’ve made them your pet; they need you to provide their shelter, food, water, and safety.

Please do not purchase a duckling for Easter.

If you already have, please do not dump it once you discover just how much work they can be.

Contact your local Humane Society or waterfowl rescue.

Had a bit of a scare at the rescue today. This is our nearest neighbor whose RV caught on fire.

We called 911, grabbed a hose and doused the vegetation in between our property, and started loading birds into crates and cars.

Thankfully the wonderful responded and put out the fire.

We cannot thank the firefighters enough for getting here so quickly!! ❤️ And for being so kind to us as scared and crazy as we were.

All our rescue animals are safe and accounted for. Some (including Henry the rehab goose) even got special car rides around the town!

We learned a huge lesson: we need to have a better evacuation plan in place, and more crates/carriers.

Making friends at the vet 💚

Lamotte (who Jason nicknamed Sherman) has a sore on his breastbone and bumblefoot. We’ll be treating both of those conditions and then this sweet, handsome boy will be available for adoption.

Newest rescue: Lamotte

We rescued him from Alondra Lake in L.A. the same place we picked up Henry the goose from.

Lamotte has an open wound on his breastbone. He’ll be seeing the vet on Thursday.

He was dumped about two weeks ago, likely because of his ailment. 😢

Thanks to .waterfowl for calling us and for helping with the rescue! 💛

Please please remember that ducks are living beings with feelings and emotions. They don’t deserve to be dumped because they are inconvenient, injured, I’ll, no longer wanted etc etc etc.

We brought the Black Swedish brothers: Earl, George, and Abe who are up for adoption.

And of course our animal ambassador Lucky! 🦆🖤

ADOPTED! 💛

John Glenn was adopted. We figured he wouldn’t be with us for long. He was too handsome and too friendly to not be adopted.

John Glenn went to a wonderful family here in Valley Center who already had five female ducks. And a son who loves his ducks. 🥰

They’ve been sending us updates and JG quickly fit right into their flock.

We’re wishing the handsome fella lots of happiness with his new ladies. 😘🦆

Thank you to the family for adopting him as this frees up space for us to go rescue another injured duck at Alondra Lake this week.

The four new fellas’ quarantine was over today. We let them out with the flock to see how they would socialize.

The three Black Swedish brothers (Earl, George, and Abe) kept to themselves. And they sure enjoyed the pool! 🌊

Monty the Muscovy came over to welcome them. Or maybe to keep them in line! She seems to be the resident Sheriff 👮‍♀️

And little John Glenn, the gorgeous Buff drake, was quite well-behaved today. Sadly, he has yet to make friends. 🥲

The boys will still sleep in their own enclosures for a while longer. We’re guessing John Glenn will be the first to go in with the flock. He desperately wants to be included! 🧡

Meet the newest rescues. Only one has a name so far, Earl.

These three handsome gentlemen were owner surrenders. They are brothers who are about a year old. Previous owners were told they were Black Swedish.

We’ll be evaluating their socialization skills in the next week and then taking them with us to an adoption event in early March.

Skunk fight at the OK corral! 🦨 I know many folks would say we’re crazy to be feeding the wildlife (especially skunks), and perhaps we are! 🤷🏻‍♀️ But about 6 acres of our property are undeveloped and natural habitat.
