Venmo - Coastal K9 German Shepherd Rescue of San Diego is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity dedicated to finding loving homes for abandoned German Shepherds. Your tax-deductible donations go to support these very deserving animals. Coastal is dedicated to providing new beginnings for homeless German Shepherds who have be

en abandoned, neglected, abused, relinquished by their owners or just left at local shelters to await an uncertain future. We are committed to finding loving permanent homes for the Orphaned dogs in our care. Coastal is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization. Our mission is to educate the public about German Shepherds, their lifespan, personality, and activity level, along with overall responsible dog ownership. We also raise awareness of the overpopulation of animals through education, training, spaying, and neutering. We work very hard to match each dog with the adoptive families. All prospective adoptive families must complete an online application followed by a telephone interview and then receive a home visit before a German Shepherd is placed in their forever home.

🐾 New Series Announcement for 2026 🐾

We’re excited to introduce a brand new video series from Coastal K9 GSR called One on One.

This series gives you a quiet, up-close look at our dogs through the eyes of the people who know them best, our Volunteers. Each short video pairs one dog with a Volunteer, creating space to slow down, build trust, and truly understand who that dog is beyond the kennel.

Today, we’re honored to share the very first episode.

Meet Gunner.

In this video, Gunner spends one-on-one time with Kyle as he talks about who Gunner is and what he needs. There’s no rush, no pressure, just a moment of connection and honesty that helps tell Gunner’s story the way it deserves to be told.

🎥 Welcome to One on One with Gunner.
We hope you’ll take a couple of minutes to watch, learn, and get to know this special boy.

Thank you for being part of our journey and for helping us give every dog the individual care and attention they deserve. 💙

🎄 Meet Our 12th and Final Dog of Christmas: Gunner Sr. 🎄

Ten years ago, Gunner left our rescue as a puppy, heading home with his forever family. We never imagined we would see him again.

But life doesn’t always unfold the way we hope.

As his family grew, the world around Gunner changed in ways he didn’t understand. The noises, the chaos, the anxiety, it slowly pushed him into isolation. When we got the call, and our volunteers visited him, it was clear: the home he once knew no longer felt like home.

His face is now touched with gray. His body isn’t as strong as it once was. But inside, Gunner is still the same gentle soul we sent home all those years ago.

This time, rescue meant something different. It meant protecting his heart.

We found Gunner a foster home made just for seniors, quiet, patient, and full of love. Today, he rests peacefully, goes on gentle walks, and curls up safely inside, no longer afraid. This Christmas, Gunner slept on his dog bed in front of the tree, dreaming of treats and comfort instead of fear.

Gunner is home again.

As we close our 12 Dogs of Christmas series, please remember: there are so many more dogs like Gunner still waiting. Seniors. Long-term fosters. Dogs who may never fit into a traditional home, but who deserve love, dignity, and safety just the same.

From Gunner Sr. and every dog in our care, thank you for believing in second chances. If you’re able, please consider donating to our Holiday Matching Fund and help us be there for the next dog who needs us. ❤️

🎄Tisha - Our 10th Dog of Christmas 🎄

Not every dog runs into your arms.
Some protect their hearts because the world has already let them down.

Tisha is one of those dogs.

Labeled “Needs Rescue” and almost forgotten, she was given a second chance when she joined Coastal K9 German Shepherd Rescue. Trust doesn’t come easily for her, but when it does, it’s deep, loyal, and incredibly special.

With the few people she loves, Tisha dances with joy, gently takes treats from their hands, and rolls in the sunshine like she’s finally safe. She may not give her heart to everyone, but when she gives it, it’s everything.

This Christmas, Tisha was safe, warm, and loved.
Our hope is that the New Year brings her the forever home she so deeply deserves. ❤️

Someone Shot Him. He Still Trusts Us. 🎄🐾Mikey, our 11th Dog of Christmas.

You met Willie, our first Dog of Christmas. But you never met the dog who saved him. This is Mikey.

Mikey was Willie's angel. When Willie was scared, Mikey stayed close. When Willie needed comfort, Mikey gave it quietly, gently, without asking for anything in return. What no one knew then was how much pain Mikey himself was carrying.

Mikey didn’t arrive at the shelter because someone surrendered him. He was picked up as a stray, skinny, covered in foxtails, fur worn thin from constant scratching, with a swollen leg and a missing tip of his ear. X-rays later revealed the truth: Mikey had a broken leg… and a bullet lodged inside it.

Someone saw this gentle dog wandering the streets and decided his life didn’t matter. Yet somehow, through being injured, alone, and afraid, Mikey refused to give up. He survived. He trusted again. He kept loving.

Today, Mikey is safe at Coastal K9 German Shepherd Rescue. His fur is growing back. He’s gaining weight. He’s making friends. And despite everything he’s endured, Mikey still believes in people.

Mikey has fought the world alone for far too long.
He’s ready for his forever home.

Maybe the angel Mikey has been waiting for… is you. 🤍

🎄🐾 Watch Mikey’s full story and help us make his Christmas wish come true.

Mia is a miracle in motion.
A frightened stray who jumped into a stranger’s car… a gentle soul who found safety, then heartbreak… and now a brave girl fighting for her life.

This holiday season, Mia needs us.
Her life-saving surgery is estimated at over $10,000.

Timmy is just one of the dogs who our annual Matching Fund Campaign helps. If you haven't read Timmy's story yet, stop and take a minute to find it in our feed. It is a heartbreaker. Timmy spent his entire life within the 4-walls of his kennel run until he came to Coastal K9. We are committed to Timmy and all of our other dogs, to find them loving homes and to provide the nurturing and care these dogs need so desperately.

From now until January 1, 2026, each dollar you donate up to $65,000 will be matched. The month is passing by so quickly, and we are now closer to the end than the beginning, and we are hoping beyond hope that we can get across that finish line and reach the $65,000 goal, a goal that is so important for the dogs like Timmy and those who will need us in the coming year.

🐾 Meet Freya — Our 6th Dog of Christmas 🎄

Freya’s name means lady, noble, and strong, and while she may not feel strong every day, her story is one of quiet courage and incredible resilience. 💔➡️❤️

Left behind in a shelter with painful, untreated medical needs, Freya didn’t understand what she did wrong, only that she was scared and hurting. Thanks to rescue, loving foster care, dedicated volunteers, and much-needed medical treatment, Freya is learning what it means to feel safe, cared for, and hopeful again.

Her eyes may carry scars from neglect, but her heart is full of love and ready for a forever family who can see the beautiful soul inside.

✨ How You Can Help Freya & Dogs Like Her ✨
Our Holiday Matching Fund is making second chances possible. From now until January 1, 2026, every dollar donated, up to $65,000, will be matched dollar for dollar.

Even $10 can make a real difference. Through many, we can help one.

If Freya’s story touched your heart, please consider donating and becoming one of the angels who help dogs like her heal and find their forever homes. ❤️

🐶💫 Freya is here today because people like you cared.

We are incredibly excited and honored to announce that Coastal K9 German Shepherd Rescue of San Diego is the first official Rescue Chapter for Ride 2 Rescue Cycling

💙 Meet Foxxy — Our 5th Dog of Christmas 🎄

Foxxy has eyes that look straight into your soul.
Eyes that seem to ask for nothing… yet say everything.

Abandoned in a remote location with no food, no water, and no protection from the elements, Foxxy survived against impossible odds. When help finally came, fear made her run, and when she stopped, she was alone. Her family was gone.

Despite everything she endured, Foxxy still chose to trust.

She came to Coastal K9 German Shepherd Rescue scared, silent, and unsure. Over time, with the help of other dogs, patient volunteers, and a whole lot of love, Foxxy learned how to feel safe again. She learned how to play. How to trust. How to hope.

Today, Foxxy runs with her puppy friends, gets excited for walks, and waits patiently for the forever family we know is out there for her.

💝 Holiday Matching Fund Reminder
From now through January 1, 2026, every dollar donated up to $65,000 will be matched dollar for dollar.

Your gift helps dogs like Foxxy heal, survive, and find their way home.

💔 A Love That Never Leaves Us 💔

We always love receiving updates from the puppies and dogs adopted from Coastal K9 over the years. Watching them grow, thrive, and be deeply loved is one of the greatest gifts of rescue.

As the years pass, some updates become harder to read… and today, we share one of those moments with heavy hearts.

Franz and Rainer were both adopted as young puppies. Their family kept us updated over the years, and every message reminded us exactly why rescue matters. Just days ago, we received the most beautiful photograph, along with a request to share it here, as they said goodbye to both of these beloved souls.

Our hearts go out to their family. Thank you for giving Franz and Rainer a life filled with love, comfort, and joy. Because of you, they never knew a day without being cherished. That is everything. 🌈🐾

Run free, sweet boys. You were so very loved.
