coastalk9gsr.org/donate Coastal K9 German Shepherd Rescue of San Diego is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity dedicated to finding loving homes for abandoned German Shepherds. Your tax-deductible donations go to support these very deserving animals. Coastal is dedicated to providing new beginnings for homeless German Shepherds who have been abandoned, neglected, abused, relinquished

by their owners or just left at local shelters to await an uncertain future. We are committed to finding loving permanent homes for the Orphaned dogs in our care. Coastal is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization. Our mission is to educate the public about German Shepherds, their lifespan, personality, and activity level, along with overall responsible dog ownership. We also raise awareness of the overpopulation of animals through education, training, spaying, and neutering. We work very hard to match each dog with the adoptive families. All prospective adoptive families must complete an online application followed by a telephone interview and then receive a home visit before a German Shepherd is placed in their forever home.

TOFFEE and her brother, Whiskey, were just puppies when they were dumped at the shelter and separated for the first time. While Whiskey was a happy and outgoing pup, TOFFEE was overwhelmed by fear. She tried to make herself invisible, flinching at the loud noises and retreating to the back of her kennel. When we got the call to rescue them, we could

At the Ranch, TOFFEE refused to leave the safety of her crate until a kind volunteer gently coaxed her out and sat with her. Reunited with Whiskey and introduced to new friends in the play yard, TOFFEE began to blossom. With her brother nearby, she felt safe enough to greet other volunteers, snuggling into their laps and sharing sweet kisses while keeping a watchful eye on the other puppies at play.

Over time, TOFFEE has grown from a timid puppy into a more confident young dog, but she still relies on the presence of other dogs for emotional support. Without a canine companion, she reverts to her frightened self, retreating to the corner. TOFFEE's brother has since been adopted, but this time she wasn’t left alone—she had already bonded with other dogs at the rescue, giving her a sense of security. TOFFEE is now ready for her forever home, one with patient, understanding adults and, most importantly, another playful dog to be her emotional anchor. She needs a family who will give her the time she needs to feel safe and loved, ensuring that wherever she goes, she will always have a canine friend by her side.

If you think you might have the right home for TOFFE, or would like more information, let us know! We’d love to talk with you. Visit our website at, www.coastalk9gsr.org.

ADOPTION NEWS🥰

VIOLET was a 3 year-old beautiful GSD who we rescued at the end of September after spending some time in a shelter. We were happy to welcome her to our Coastal K9 pack. It didn’t take long for Violet to showcase her affectionate nature. She loved sitting with our volunteers, enjoying being petted, and often asked for belly rubs. Before long, she became a favorite among our team. To our delight, we discovered a whole new puppy side of VIOLET when we brought out a small squeaky ball. VIOLET came to life and smiled from ear to ear any time she got to play ball.

Towards the end of 2024 VIOLET had a opportunity to meet a young couple who were looking for a dog just like VIOLET to share their life with. We invited them to come meet her at the Ranch. They spent a long time bonding with her and her with them. In the end, VIOLET found a wonderful home and a head start on a new beginning for 2025.

Congratulations to VIOLET and her new family! A huge thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who helped make this happy ending possible.

SPECIAL ADOPTION NEWS!🥰🥰

We are so excited to share this adoption news. Sometimes it takes some time for our dogs to find the right home. In some cases, we are super thankful to have wonderful foster families who will welcome these dogs into their home and care for them while they wait patiently for their forever home. That was the case for NAGO and TIPPY. Both needed families with experience with GSD's and in NAGO's case, AKITA.

NAGO and TIPPY hit the jackpot when they were invited to stay at one of our longtime foster homes. In addition to fostering, she had adopted several Coastal K9 dogs over the years. Her knowledge, background, commitment and compassion were just what these dogs needed. We knew they were in good hands. Now we just needed to find the right home.

To our pleasant surprise, it turned out that NAGO and TIPPY's foster mom decided she wanted to make it official. She didn't want them to be foster dogs anymore, she wanted them as official member of her pack! Whoo Hoo! We couldn't think of a better way to end 2024 and start 2025 for both dogs!

Join us in congratulating both NAGO and TIPPY and their new mom! Their Happy Tails are a testament to the power of love, patience, and community support.

A huge thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who helped make this happy ending possible.

DYLAN was adopted into a family with another dog, but his happiness was short-lived. Seven months later, he returned to the rescue in poor condition, underfed and withdrawn. Yet, the familiar faces and the company of other dogs lifted his spirits, and DYLAN found joy again at the Ranch. Here, surrounded by friends and safety, DYLAN helps other anxious dogs, like Toffee, teach them to trust and play. However, he still relies on a companion dog to navigate his fears, as the big world remains intimidating without a dog by his side. DYLAN feels safe. He found joy in playing with other dogs, and his time at the Rescue became his safe haven. Slowly, patient volunteers gave DYLAN the confidence to play and explore life as a puppy should.

Some dogs leave paw prints on our hearts, but DYLAN wraps his paws around our hearts and squeezes. DYLAN’s journey began in hardship, confined to a small apartment with other puppies, lacking human interaction. A good Samaritan rescued them, but DYLAN, scared and untrusting, was left behind. When he arrived at the Rescue, he cowered in a corner, shaking. Over time, DYLAN began to trust a select few volunteers who patiently gave him space and love. The instant impact for DYLAN however was his connection with other dogs. Other dogs helped DYLAN feel safe. He found joy playing with other dogs, and his time at the Rescue became his safe haven. Slowly, patient volunteers gave DYLAN the confidence to play and explore life as a puppy should.

DYLAN is ready to try again with the right family—one that understands his need for patience, trust, and the companionship of another playful dog in his generation. His affectionate side shines through with those he trusts, offering kisses and seeking comfort in their presence. DYLAN’s heart has grown through his struggles, and he’s ready to share his love with a family that will cherish him for who he is. Could you be that family?

SHILOH🥰

SHILOH's journey began with uncertainty, picked up as a stray at just four months old and facing a grim future in a crowded shelter. Unaware of how close he was to losing his life, he was saved just in time. When he joined our rescue, his youthful innocence kept him from dwelling on his past. With a foster family ready to welcome him, complete with a doggy playmate to guide and teach him, SHILOH embraced his new beginning with boundless enthusiasm.

Now thriving in his foster home, SHILOH is blossoming into a sweet, playful pup who loves everyone he meets—human or canine. He’s learning the ropes of leash walking, house manners, and how to be the perfect companion. His personality is as big as his heart, and his goofy antics bring endless joy. SHILOH is searching for a forever family with time to nurture his puppy energy, preferably with another dog to play with or older kids to share his love and wet kisses. He’s ready to give his whole heart to the family who will love him for the wonderful pup he is.

If you want to learn more about SHILOH, let us know! We’d love to talk with you. Visit our website at, www.coastalk9gsr.org.

BEAUTIFUL OPAL🥰

OPAL was found as a stray just before Thanksgiving, her paws torn and bloody, her body thin and weak from hunger. At only 47 pounds, her ribs showed prominently, and she was described as shy but friendly. When we rescued OPAL on December 5th, she began her recovery with her new Coastal K9 family, still underweight and healing. It didn’t take long for her resilience to shine through—once she realized she was safe, her nervousness disappeared, revealing a playful, extroverted pup who loves everyone she meets, both humans and dogs.

Today, OPAL’s ribs no longer show and her pads are healed up. She is bursting with energy and joy, embodying the spirit of a perpetual puppy. She’s ready to run, play, and love unconditionally. It’s as if she’s asking, “Where’s the party?!” Though her past remains a mystery, none of that matters to OPAL anymore. What she longs for now is a forever family to welcome her into the New Year. Until then, we’ve promised to keep her safe, but OPAL hopes that her special family will come soon and give her the love and security she deserves.

If you think you might have the right home for OPAL, or would like more information, let us know! We’d love to talk with you. Visit our website at, www.coastalk9gsr.org.

SOCAL WILDFIRES 🔥

Our hearts are with our friends in LA as they face the devastating impact of the recent wildfires. So many families and animals have been affected, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who has stepped up to offer help and support during this challenging time.

Sadly, the danger isn’t over yet. With Santa Ana winds continuing to blow, the risk of wildfires can arise at a moment’s notice. Being prepared is crucial. Here are a few tips to ensure your pets are ready in case of an emergency:

🔥Have a Plan - determine a couple locations you can evacuate and pack a "Go Bag" including water, dog food, leashes, medications for you and your dog
🔥Collars - make sure your dog is wearing a collar with identification
🔥Crates - Have crates or carriers on hand in case they are needed
🔥ID - Is your dog microchipped?? This is a great time to make sure they are in case lost

At the Rescue, we’re always prepared with our "Rescue Waggin'" ready to safely transport our dogs in case of an evacuation order. We also have a comprehensive Emergency Plan in place to ensure everyone’s safety. Another key part of staying prepared is staying informed. We rely on several helpful apps to keep up with the latest local wildfire updates and recommend you download them as well to stay informed and ready and want to share them with you.

🔥Watch Duty
🔥Pulse Point
🔥X
🔥CalFire
🔥SD County Emergency

Together, we will make it through this time. Stay vigilant and take care.

ADOPTION NEWS!

DOBBY joined our rescue at the end of November and quickly became a favorite among our volunteers. With his signature "hugs" and constant smile, it’s hard to imagine how a dog with such a wonderful disposition ended up in a shelter.

Not long after, a young couple reached out to us in search of a playmate for their medium-sized female dog. We invited them to the Ranch to meet a few potential candidates, and DOBBY was among them. It didn’t take long to see that he was the perfect match. Their dog’s reaction said it all: "This is my new brother!" 😀

DOBBY is thriving in his new home, spending his days playing and wrestling with his new sister. Congratulations to DOBBY and his new family! A huge thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who helped make this happy ending possible.

FALLON🥰

It's hard to look into FALLON’s soulful eyes and understand how her previous owners could have left her at one of California's highest-kill shelters. We’ll never know why they walked away, but we do know how lucky the world is that we were able to save her. As soon as FALLON walked out of the shelter doors, she left the sadness behind. Given a second chance at life, she embraced it wholeheartedly, ready to show her new friends what it means to truly live. FALLON’s personality shines—she’s a natural leader with the intelligence and energy that defines a "sable" shepherd. Whether fetching balls or chasing playmates, FALLON is happiest when she’s active and engaged, always ready for the next adventure.

Despite her strength and playful spirit, FALLON has a tender side. She cherishes the moments spent with volunteers, reveling in their attention, from gentle brushes to soothing massages. Sometimes, she can’t help but climb into their laps, her joy filling the air with shared laughter. But when the volunteers walk away and the sun sets, FALLON is left alone, waiting and watching. Behind her bright eyes and cheerful demeanor lies a quiet longing for a family of her own. FALLON wishes for nothing more than a family that won't leave her, one that will understand who she is and what she needs. She would love to have an active family that loves to live and celebrate life as much as she does.

If you think you might have the right home for FALLON, or would like more information, let us know! We’d love to talk with you. Visit our website at, www.coastalk9gsr.org.

JIN is one of three young dogs that we rescued in November. He is an extremely sweet boy and still very much a puppy. He has spent the past few months in a foster home with several big dogs, both male and female. He was quick to accept the boundaries of the older/alpha dogs, but it did take a little while for him to learn the boundaries of the younger dog (who is older and bigger than him).

JIN would do best in a home with a confident dog who would like to play and who would serve as a role model for him. He is at a formidable age and needs positive structure from all members of his new home. JIN has fallen in love very quickly with every human he has ever met. He is very affectionate and could do well in a home with older children. He is currently kenneled when alone in the home because he is still learning what is ok to chew and what is not. He is doing great with potty training but still needs frequent opportunities to go outside.

JIN is a phenomenal dog with so much potential. He has had little obedience training but with his willingness to please his handler, it will take little effort to take him in any direction.

To see some video footage of JIN, visit his page on our website at, www.coastalk9gsr.org/team/jin

🎉🐾 **We Made It – Thank You!** 🐾🎉

When we began our Holiday Matching Fund of 2024, we knew there was a chance we might not reach our goal. 2024 was such a challenging year for everyone, especially financially. Two weeks into the campaign, we held onto hope for the dogs whose lives depended on us meeting that goal—hoping for the best while trying to prepare ourselves in case we didn’t make it.

But today, we are overwhelmed by the incredible response we received. Every time the dogs needed you, you answered their cry. Whenever we sent out a plea, you answered with love and generosity. Words will never truly capture what your support has meant to us.

Because of you, **we reached our Holiday Matching Fund goal**. Because of you, **WE MADE IT.** With humble hearts and tears of joy, we say thank you. Thank you so much for believing in us and standing by the dogs who need us most.

Because of your unwavering support, countless dogs will receive the second chances they deserve this year. For every tail wag, every forever home, and every life saved—thank you. Together, we’re creating brighter futures and endless possibilities for the dogs we love. ❤️🐶

RESILIENT RYDER

RYDER is a recent rescue of ours who found himself at one of the most overcrowded shelters in Southern California. So overcrowded that many times a kennel meant for one dog is filled with two or even three and that was the case for RYDER. Euthanasia was waiting at the door for RYDER. Thankfully we were able to give him a 2nd chance at life.

If you think you might have the right home for RYDER or would like more information, let us know! We’d love to talk with you. Visit our website at, www.coastalk9gsr.org.s. RYDER is hoping he might get a new forever home for Christmas. We’re keeping our paws crossed!der constant attack during his stay at the shelter, in a place that was loud and scary, a place where no one even noticed the blood that would have been around his neck from the deep wounds. Sweet RYDER, as large as he is, couldn’t protect himself and with no one to protect him, he had suffered in silence.
Once we were able to get him the medication he needed, he let us finally touch his neck, and we were horrified at what we found, multiple dog bite wounds, fresh wounds by his throat and scabs going the entire way around his neck and on the back of his skull. Ryder had suffered under constant attack during his stay at the shelter, in a place that was loud and scary, a place where no one even noticed the blood that would have been around his neck from the deep wounds. Sweet RYDER, as large as he is, couldn’t protect himself and with no one to protect him, he had suffered in silence.

Today, RYDER is doing much better! He is learning to be a dog once again and feel the love, safety and companionship of our Kennel Team, Volunteers and other Coastal K9 dogs. RYDER is hoping he might get a new forever home for Christmas. We’re keeping our paws crossed!

If you think you might have the right home for RYDER, or would like more information, let us know! We’d love to talk with you. Visit our website at, www.coastalk9gsr.org.
