Feather Duster

These little guys are just chillin....and a photo bomb from a clownfish......Feather duster worms, are a family of marine polychaete tube worms characterized by protruding feathery branchiae. Sabellids build tubes out of a tough, parchment-like exudate, strengthened with sand and bits of shell. Sabellidae can be found in subtidal habitats around the world. Their oldest fossils are known from the Early Jurassic. The Feather Duster uses the radiole to filter out small floating organisms, which it directs toward its mouth, located at the center of the crown. This a fun animal to add to your sand bed. The black ghost knifefish is a tropical fish belonging to the ghost knifefish family. They originate in freshwater habitats in South America where they range from Venezuela to the Paraguay–Paraná River, including the Amazon Basin. They have a specialized organ in its tail containing a small group of cells that can discharge electricity at frequencies approaching 2000 times per second. —helping them to find food and discover their surondings. Ghost knives are peaceful with most other fish but scrabble amongst themselves. They prefer dimly lit aquariums with hiding places. The common name “knifefish” comes from the fact that it has no dorsal or caudal fin, giving it a blade-like appearance. Instead, an extended anal fin runs along the bottom edge of its body and ripples back and forth like a wave, allowing the knifefish to maneuver bidirectionally between tight spaces. And they grow to 18inches long. We have 2 larger ghosts and a few smaller ghosts in stock now. Stop in this Thursday thru Sunday to check them out.
