A sneak peak of Amelio before todays photo shoot with Clip Clop Click Photography!!!
We haven’t done much at all with bareback riding. So today seemed like a perfect time to start. Handled it well and neck reined very nicely.

As we close in on our last 30 days with Amelio I am extremely happy with where he is at. I am a strong believer with never becoming complacent so we will be adding all the finishing touches with our time left with him.

Gas pedal and brakes
When starting a horse on establishing a gas pedal I want to ride them like I’m DRUNK. I want the horse to not get spooky, speed up or slow down unless told to. Maintaining gait is key to building respect and confidence.
One Rein Stops are the emergency brake.
When a horse flex’s laterally their forward motion halts and they are put off balance. By doing this the gas pedal is taken away.

The Jeffrey’s Method/ Human Curry Comb
This is a exercise I like to do before the first saddling and the first ride. It seems to always quiet the horse quickly and gets them used to me moving around on their back.

Moving your horses feet forwards, backwards, left and right will allow your horse to use the thinking side of their brain as well as gain their respect.

Trailering
A horse that is not used to trailering may feel trapped and claustrophobic when in or around the trailer.
Consistency is the key.
A well rounded horse should have no issues getting in and out of the trailer.
Gas pedal and brakes
Todays goal was getting Bella to maintain her gait at the Walk, Trot, Canter and to get her to understand the concept of one rein stops.

Lunging for Respect.

This lil Rocky Mountain is progressing nicely!!!
My number one goal when training a horse is developing a safe horse. I want my horses to be safe enough that a 1 year old can ride them …. With a little assistance from dad.
1)Yield to a stop
2)Yield the hind quarters and back up
3)Draw to a stop and back up
A lot of horses will get spooked, jumpy, and reactive when they're taken out of the arena.
Training on the trail is always a perfect alternative. We can work on our exercises, desensitize to the new environment and enhance a horses well being.
Side passing is a great exercise to teach your horse respect and how to move away from you.
Also, sidepassing on the ground is the starting point for side passing under saddle.
Most horses find it hard to follow their nose in a straight line. This exercise teaches the horse to follow their nose in a straight line in the open. When I point the horses nose in a direction I want her to go straight there without veering to the left or right.
Had some help today wrangling up Clementine’s fillies.
The goal for today was to have the horse trot and canter on a loose rein while maintaining her gait.
This allows the horse to take responsibility of their own feet.
A horse will never take responsibility for themselves if you micromanage and babysit.
