How do you measure progress?

That’s a tricky thing… sometimes progress can simply be getting a horse to pick up a correct lead. Progress can be as significant as placing in a higher division.

What progress isn’t, is hitting barrels and entering to just say, “I entered.”. I’ve seen “just entering” perceived as progress… what I see, is that will only lead to more stress, disappointment, and much bigger problems to fix with your horse.

I’ve been in the training business for a long time and creating a successful teaching program with horses winning all over the country. Entering and making mistakes isn’t brave or a success story, it shows holes in your program. Progress is making better runs, bettering your horse and pushing yourself to have better skill sets… taking a step back from just entering will make such a positive impact on your runs. Get the help and training from a good professional. Pick a trainer that can REALLY show you how to get the most out of yourself and horse! Someone that can give you a vast range of knowledge.

Trust me, real progress can happen for anyone with the right mindset and knowledge! Wishing everyone success, life is too short to make bad runs!

As April is coming to an end, I want to thank all the RBH customers that believe in our program. It’s an amazing feeling having our training program booked full until JULY!

The busy season is just beginning and I’m anxious to see the horses and riders that are dedicated to our lesson program start to compete! Just some ideas for when you rent an arena and the ground isn’t worked well enough to make a run or barrels aren’t available… you can still make it a teachable moment! For example, in this video I’m working a three year old filly by Jets Smashin Cash that sometimes pays more attention to the banners than me. So, I want to be able to push her on up on the fence as close as possible. Then, say next time we haul and the facility does have the barrels close by the fence, this helps move her to where she needs to be. I can also work a “pretend” pattern to make sure she is listening at all times giving me a really broke horse!
