We aren’t breeders we are trainers but with being involved with dogs over a decade we have seen and trained enough dogs to know what produces the dogs that people want. Our kennel motto is “Health Tested! Field Proven!” for a reason. We see what works best. This is why when we buy pups or recommend pups for folks we only do so with health tested parents from field titled proven lines.. Usually the cost difference isn’t really that much and we can find you a pup.

Just because a dog is AKC registered, doesn’t mean it has a good pedigree.

Just because you don’t want to compete in dog sports doesn’t mean you don’t want to buy a dog from lines who have competed. Those letters next to a dogs name for generations prove trainability, intelligence and adaptability, as well as, health testing for the entirety of the dogs lineage. There’s a reason military and police departments acquire their working retrievers from hunt test and field trial pedigrees.

Just because someone selling puppies says they are “health checked,” doesn’t mean they have OFA tested hips and elbows, genetic panels etc. their vets opinion of the health of their dog means nothing when it comes to breeding mentally and physically sound dogs.

Well bred dogs cost more up front, you’re paying for all the time and energy put into the parents, more so than the puppy itself. But, it is typically a “buy once, cry once,” situation. Well bred dogs typically are more willing to train, have far less mental/behavior issues and will cost you far less for the duration of their life.

2023 was a big year for the kennel and we plan to strive onward and upward in 2024. We did several basic obdience dogs but our bred and butter is gun dogs. We love the hunt tests but at the end of the day these are hunting dogs. Our test dogs hunt but tests are a great way for the dogs to demonstrate and build abilities during the off season.

This past year had some firsts for us. We ran our first field trial a O/H Qual with HRCH Raven MH QAA placing 2nd. We ran our first client dogs in the AKC Masters tests and the Grand.
In the past we ran just 1-2 local AKC Master tests a year and lots of HRC. We will always be a HRC kennel first but 2023 we took a leap and ran more Master tests which will continue in 2024 with hopes of running the Master National. We did fairly good and racked up lots of master passes. 30 to be exact according to the official Retriever Results kennel rankings pictured in the post.

We look forward to a great 2024 and would like to let all of you who support us that we sincerely appreciate you. We promise to work hard caring for your dogs like they are our own and pushing them fairly to the limits of their abilities.

Another positive review for MoCo Bottom's Labs. Gun dogs, hunt tests and oh yeah basic obdience we do that too. Ace was our first doodle. He was a pleasure and turned out very nice. Lily Malone’s HR Tito went on a hell of a trip. Tito traveled with Drew Belcher from Illinois to Idaho. The long drive was worth it from the photos they killed 238 birds. This boy is a hunting machine!

Lily a young chessie and Linda the black lab working on hold conditioning. These are a couple of our young guns getting ready for tests this spring.

Lily is owned by Sky Pond Chesapeakes of Lancaster KY. They got sone great breedings coming up. Fully health tested and field proven pedigrees. I think they just bred to a GRHRC chessie stud. Contact them for all your chessie pup needs. We have trained a handful of dogs from them and highly recommend them.

Linda is our youngest pup here. She owned by us and available with training/competition contract. So far she seems very smart, highly driven and likes to work. Comes from great genetics her parents are a 4xGRHRCH UH MNH Dual HOF x HRCH MH with 1MN plate.

Junior is a young pup here for gun dog/hunt test training owned by Josh Manis of Northwest Indiana. Josh put his dog ahead of his ego. Junior is spending the winter with us instead of hunting with just a few skills. By next season junior will have a full set of advanced skills and be a better all around dog to hunt.

Here Junior is working on 3 hand casting. This is also the first session we introduced a whistle sit. We been working towards whistle sits since basic obdience which we find makes a pretty smooth progression. Looking forward starting off with season level tests in the spring. Genetics matter and we hope he takes after his daddy 3XGRHRCH UH Retrievers Retreats Simple Man MH.

It’s hunting not killing. Pile pictures are nice but for sone this season has been a struggle. Moose’s owner Ken Wagner reported in. I think we have another happy client. I do think he’d be happier if there were more ducks around though .

Love getting these reports. Joanie was one them dogs that made us earn our money. She really came on at the end and has turned out to be just what Mr. David Overholt of Hudson Illinois always dreamed. Mr. david is a lefty so we taught Joanie everything on the right. He also wanted a upland companion so we taught her to quarter and flush. Keep the updates coming folks!

We truly appreciate and are blessed to have some great clients. Nothing is a better compliment than dogs coming back year after year to pursue upper level titles. HR Envy came back today to continue towards her finished and masters title. Hopefully running some national events in the fall.

Exciting news!!!!! Yesterday HRCH Alfalfa(4MH passes) became a daddy for the first time. Big Al and Koko a HRCH UH Micah MH daughter have 12 healthy beautiful chocolate pups. Both are fully health tested and come from proven pedigrees. More info coming soon. Priced to move $900. We’d love to get them back in would be great companions in the home or the field.

This is getting serious. We are keeping up on it to our best ability including getting updates from the Illinois Department of a Agriculture. We are keeping kennels clean and sanitized. Luckily hunt tests are over for now and we won’t be traveling with dogs for a bit. Keep your pets safe! We share in your concerns.
