Sprout has some serious dance moves!! 🕺🎶
Meet Sprout! A 4 year old Schipperke mix ready to groove his way into a forever home. This peppy guy is upbeat and as friendly as they come! Sprout loves to always be right by your side. He does have a bit of separation anxiety, so ideally someone who is home most of the time or willing to help Sprout work through his anxiety would be best. We have not tested Sprout with other dogs yet, so we’re not sure if he’s interested in a fursibling! Sprout is ready to dance his way into your heart. Come meet him if he sounds like a good match!
If you’re interested in meeting Sprout, you can fill out an application at www.LakeshorePaws.org/adopt and then give us a call at (219)476-PAWS to confirm we received it!
Become a Volunteer for Lakeshore PAWS!
Looking to make a big difference in 2025? Consider becoming a volunteer for Lakeshore PAWS! 🎉🐾
Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our rescue. Thanks to their dedication, our dogs enjoy more socialization and less time in kennels. At Lakeshore PAWS, there are countless ways you can help:
- Activities like walks around our yard, dog field trips, and playtime in one of our fenced-in runs provide enrichment that a shelter dog would not have if not for our volunteers.
- Assisting with dog care. (ex. baths and grooming)
- Events, fundraising, and assisting with adoptions. We always need help taking dogs to events to meet the public!
- Helping us keep up with daily cleaning around the shelter
- Yardwork
- Taking a dog into one of our meeting rooms and just spending time with them!
Anytime spent with a shelter dog, is so incredibly valuable to them. Just a simple game of fetch could make a dog's entire day.
Interested in becoming a volunteer? The next step is to fill out an application! You can read more about our basic requirements and apply to volunteer on our website at https://lakeshorepaws.org/volunteer/
After you apply, we will reach out and have you attend one of our volunteer orientations!
We look forward to welcoming new volunteers to our rescue this year!!
Shortie Hitting Snooze
🎉🐾 Happy New Year! Welcome to 2025! 🐾🎉
Shortie is already embracing the new year by catching up on some well-deserved rest — and it looks like many of us are doing the same! Our office is closed today, but we'll be back to regular hours tomorrow.
Wishing everyone a year full of joy and happiness. We hope the new year brings LOTS of forever homes!
❤
Kipper
Kipper has been waiting for a family to call his own since September, but despite his quiet patience, he’s been overlooked time and time again. He hasn't met many families, and the ones he does meet never seem to choose him.
Kipper is a 3-year-old Smooth Fox Terrier mix, and he has a birth defect in one of his eyes called microphthalmia. While it doesn't cause him any pain, it gives him a unique look that, sadly, often makes people shy away. Many people mistakenly think he's a tiny dog, but in reality, Kipper is 46 pounds.
He gets along well with other dogs and would love a yard where he could burn off his energy, jumping and playing like the little bean of joy he is. But most of his days are spent here, in a noisy shelter, trying to find a quiet corner to rest. Kipper deserves so much more than this. He’s been waiting so long—could you be the one to finally give him the home he’s been dreaming of?
If you're interested in meeting Kipper, you can fill out an application at www.LakeshorePaws.org/adopt and give our office a call at (219)476-7297.
Ziggy
***ADOPTED!***
Sound up for the cutest little Ziggy snores. ⬆️🥹
This cozy boy spent his day as the office dog, and honestly, you couldn’t ask for a better companion than Ziggy. He’s your constant shadow, always curiously following you around wherever you go. His favorite thing in the world? Attention from people. He’s incredibly friendly and genuinely loves everyone—Ziggy is truly everybody’s biggest fan.
Thinking back to that heart-wrenching photo we shared the day he was rescued, Ziggy has come such a long way. His wounds are healing, he no longer limps or feels pain, and his fur is regrowing in places where it was once gone. His goofy nature, love for people, and infectious positive spirit are what truly make Ziggy shine.
At 2 years old, Ziggy is ready to find his forever home, and he’s going to make one lucky family feel incredibly loved. He gets along well with other dogs, and his gentle nature suggests he'd do well with respectful children, though he does have a habit of jumping up for big, happy hugs. Ziggy has a lifetime of love to give—will you be the lucky family to receive it?
If you're interested in meeting Ziggy, please fill out an adoption application at www.LakeshorePaws.org/adopt and call our office at (219) 476-7297.
Here are a few more of Walker’s recent playgroups! He’s had so many successful ones recently and is starting to prove he is quite the social butterfly with other dogs!
Walker, Blueberry, and Mango absolutely LOVED their playtime together. All 3 have been doing great with other dogs and would probably love to share a home with another pup.
We wanted to thank our volunteers and staff for continuing to work with Walker and helping him build his confidence.
Meet Walker
This #GivingTuesday, we want to share the inspiring story of Walker, one of the dogs currently in our care.
Walker arrived at our rescue about six weeks ago after spending three months as a stray. When he first came to us, he was understandably scared and hesitant to leave the safety of his kennel.
Our primary goal was to earn Walker's trust, which required patience and small, consistent efforts. Simple gestures, like tossing him treats as we passed his kennel or quietly sitting nearby, helped him feel more secure. After a week, Walker finally felt brave enough to step outside his kennel.
Destiny, one of our dedicated staff members, was especially committed to helping Walker. She spent time with him every day, sitting quietly in his kennel and building a bond. Over time, she saw Walker begin to open up. He started looking forward to their daily walks, and before long, his goofy and lovable personality began to shine.
Recently, Walker achieved a major milestone: he had a positive interaction with another dog! While we're still working to build his confidence before he's ready for adoption, his progress has been remarkable and deserves to be celebrated.
Thanks to the generous donations and support we receive from our community, we can provide the time, patience, and care that dogs like Walker need to thrive. Walker is a sweet, deserving boy, and we can’t wait to find him the loving home he’s been waiting for.
Please consider donating to Lakeshore PAWS this #GivingTuesday so we can continue helping Walker and dogs like him who need to be rescued.

Miss Mango!
Meet Mango! This lively 1-year-old Pittie mix is pure joy to be around. With her playful spirit and love for toys, she’s endlessly entertaining—especially when she’s tossing them around with enthusiasm. Mango gets along wonderfully with other dogs, and would likely love a fur-sibling, provided they’re a good fit for each other.
If you're interested in meeting Mango, you can fill out an application at www.LakeshorePaws.org/adopt and give our office a call at (219)476-7297.
Meet Bacon!
🐾🥓 BACON!! 🥓🐾
Meet this handsome guy, Bacon! This happy boy is a 1.5-year-old Terrier mix searching for a loving home. Bacon is a goofball with a quirky personality. He likes to show off his hops and zoomies before settling down for affection. Bacon has done great in playgroups with other dogs, so he may like sharing his home with another pup as long as it is a good fit. Does Bacon sound like he could be a good fit for you?
If you’re interested in Bacon, you can fill out an application at Lakeshorepaws.org/Adopt and give us a call at (219)476-7297 to make an appointment to come meet him!
