yet another RETRIEVE IN REAL LIFE (reenacted from a moment before) this time Plumwood Posse's sweet senior Penelope age 14 ๐ the Posse & I love all sorts of retrieves whether playtime with toys, specific exercise for rally/obedience, freestyle tricks, or helping as shown here ๐ still struggling with retrieve...? it's simply a progression of "trade/give", a core foundation skill in my Life With Dogs program.
CONGRATULATIONS Jeff & Duck P-CRO-III! ๐ They earned their 1st Q in Level 4 Performance Division of Cyber Rally-O / CRO! ๐๐. Not an easy task! L4 is challenging, only 17 teams have gone on to earn an L4 title! Their course had 19 stations and 2 transitions between heel & side. Shown here are: Figure 8 with 2 Jumps, Dog Only Serpentine 6 Cones, Long Front Dog 360, and Stop Fast. Great progress Jeff, assistant trainer / wife Tara! Duck & I are proud of you guys!! ๐๐๐๐
Great job by new students in Life With Dogs class, a few shown here.๐ in our 1st session with dogs we shaped a relaxed, reliable place and then easily shaped it into a down-stay. ๐๐โฎ๏ธ Loved their proud and stunned faces at how smooth, pleasant and easy it was and how well their pups' did in 1st night of class! that's the power of shaping with successful approximations, and the joy of learning. ๐๐ My next openings late April, registration starting soon...
last night Starry & I started this ๐๐ great for fun, daily life, sport/ freestyle, and more ๐๐
more UFOs in Crawford County AR ๐ Journey & Starry playing chase in the field ๐ป
Journey is the one leading, he's super fast & super agile, can turn on a dime. Starry giving her all, trying so hard to catch him, she's fast too but her build dictates w-i-d-e turns. She gives a frustration bark (rare), he puts on the brakes, circles back to her, they have a breather ๐๐๐โฎ๏ธ.
If you've followed Starry's posts you know she lacked life skills, had zero canine or feline friends, and zero canine play skills when she first joined the Plumwood Posse โน๏ธ. Along with Journey, the rest of the Posse and several SD canine students, I continue helping her develop a repertoire of social skills necessary for wellness, health, quality life. ๐๐โฎ๏ธ Play = learning = wellness = life!
CAT-DOG harmony ๐๐โฎ๏ธ need help?๐ซ just another update on Starry Night ๐๐ in former home chasing, harassing, stressing the resident cat were strong skills โน๏ธ๐. in my home we've constructed new skills, the ones she lacked, a few shown here. I want ALL members of my family (and yours) to feel safe, happy, have healthy, mutually enjoyable interactions / relationships, & possess the skills they need to be their best selves ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐โฎ๏ธ
retrieve / bring is one of my favorite skills, the Posse & I enjoy it daily ๐๐๐๐๐๐. yes for toy play but loads of other items & situations, too. two recent examples here, Starry helps by bringing me her items - empty Toppl & half a jumbo bully stick - after her chew sessions. NEW SKILLS NEW DOG ๐โฎ๏ธ๐
FEAR FREE VET VISITS & COOPERATIVE CARE. Session 2 Chin Station on Lap - I introduced a syringe for mock injections, a few reps here. also introduced a stethoscope. So proud of sweet Starry Night ๐๐๐ Will update again on future sessions. FYI, next Cooperative Care zoom class coming early 2024...
Starry Night & I have been growing her "front cross dog" in both directions L to R and R to L, she's doing great๐ ๐๐ we practice these skills not only for fitness & fun but also our sport training, eg, rally & freestyle.
as shown I currently use a large hand signal but my next goals include reducing that signal, and also verbal cues only.
component skills for front cross-dog and much more are taught in FunFitSport class, next openings mid Jan 2024...
Hooray! WEST PAW's brand new Toppl plugs arrived yesterday! ๐I've already used them 3xs and LOVE them ๐ป SO EASY & CONVENIENT ๐ No more plugs made from bread. clip shows how easy it is to remove the plug from a frozen mixture.
students who've purchased a Clicino clicker ring are LOVING it ๐๐๐. easy access, less bulk in hand / user-friendly (ie, little to no coordination needed ๐), a quiet click. plenty of fun colors in stock. you're welcome to try mine at your next session of class.
hmm, hard to tell but I think maybe, just maybe, Guy likes this treat zen game ๐๐๐ love watching his tail ๐ป (and this Team's transformation since week 1)
another Congrats for Plumwood Posse's Pearl! just enough daylight left Sun after classes to set up Canine Hoopers World progress level 2, go through my part physically & mentally, warm Pearl up on a few sequences, then give it a go. CLEAN RUN / PASS on her 1st run! ๐ Proud of this sweet Girl! ๐๐๐ (she's probably been dreaming of this since last fall when Starry Night joined us and our lives were overturned helping her with her special behaivoral needs)
Plenty notes for myself on what I want to improve, in fact, as of this morning I'm completely changing my handling system. Pearl's part is already perfect ๐
I still love Rally & Obedience but, oh my, I do believe I now have a Hoopers addiction ๐น๐ป. Students are also loving! Info on next classes will post soon.
this week beginner Life With Dogs students had fun learning / playing treat zen games, shown are Courtney & Shadow ๐๐๐
love this 1 week update from Cayce learning CONSTRUCTIONAL AFFECTION (CAFF) in my zoom class - "Hootie is a big fan of CAFF...he even stayed calm when seeing a shadow which is usually a big trigger for barking." ๐๐โฎ๏ธ
In this clip one of Hootie's humans and also a few neighborhood children walk past - previously barking, high arousal situations - while Cayce & Hootie watch and enjoy calm affection ๐๐โฎ๏ธ.
In a nutshell with labels, CAFF grows lovely calm greetings & behavior in a variety of daily life situations where anxiety, over-arousal, barking, etc have previously been the norm.
CAFF includes Interaction Guidelines (IGs), developing affection as R+ system, and growing & applying CAFF LOOPS in previously troubling situations.
Next zoom opportunities are later this summer, info will post at SD website and this page.
great job Tara & Duck learning a Figure 8 with 2 Jumps, one of the many fun exercises in Level 4 of Cyber Rally-O! ๐๐๐
another clip of beautiful skills by Margaret & Penny playing / practicing the Loose Leash Game to reach destination - here, a bowl with treats and also greeting me ๐๐๐ Part of my Life With Dogs foundation training.
beautiful skills by Margaret & Penny playing / practicing the Loose Leash Game to reach destination, here a bowl with treats๐๐๐ Part of my Life With Dogs foundation training.
Last week I noticed Yumi threw her paw at me a few times so I gave Mia the fun homework of capturing the behavior and associating a cue. She readily accepted. I encouraged both L & R paws.
LOVE when students do their homework, great job Mia & Yumi! ๐๐๐
Note, reinforcing the base position, here a sit, is also important for both reduced error learning and stimulus control.
