Our phones are working only intermittently this morning, sometimes dropping calls while on hold. The tech people are working on the problem, but we don't know when the problem will be resolved.
Our staff are relying on their personal cell phones to call clients back, so if you are expecting a call from us you might not recognize the number.
Email and PetDesk may be a more reliable way to communicate for now.
Thanks for your patience.

It's a bit of a Christmas miracle! An injured turkey vulture my neighborhood had been worrying over for seven months, was captured and taken to a wildlife rehabilitator a day before our first major winter storm that would have surely killed it.

Our veterinarians and support staff split into two teams to volunteer at the Historic Galloway House and Village yesterday. We helped move artifacts in preparation for renovations on the Carriage House and chinking of the log cabin. We had a fun time learning about the artifacts we were moving, and it was a great team-building exercise.

Reverse Sneezing in a Dog
Reverse sneezing is a strange, disturbing but transient breathing pattern seen in some dogs. The first time they hear it many people think their dog is literally dying -- it's that distressing! However, reverse sneezing is almost never a life threatening occurence.
The most common cause of reverse sneezing is irritation in the back of the throat or soft palate. This can be triggered by allergies, post-nasal drip, pulling hard on the leash, inhaled chemical irritants like perfumes, dust or pollen, mites, viruses, or inhaled foreign material.
Usually reverse sneezing stops on its own once the spasm has ended. Gently massaging of the throat, speaking in calm, reassuring tones and momentarily blocking the dog's nostrils to trigger a swallow may help end reverse sneezing.
If reverse sneezing episodes happen often or if other signs of illness are present, please contact your veterinarian. Various diagnostics or therapies to identify and treat an underlying cause may be recommended.
Here is a video of "Hunter" reverse sneezing!
Norwex Rubber Brush Removes Pet Hair

We will have some of these Rubber Brushes available for purchase in the clinic if you want to try it for yourself.

Release of an American Kestrel
A good samaritan retrieved a disabled American kestrel from a truck stop puddle and brought it to St. Bernard's Animal Medical Center for emergency assessment and stabilization. Dr. Kim Everson, DVM, determined the bird of prey was not gravely injured. An attempt to release the kestrel resulted in a surprise but successful take off to freedom.
