Dog House Grooming and supplies believes in treating your pet like our own. We baby them thru the whole grooming process. With our windowed grooming area you can view your furry friend or they can watch out the front window and watch the people or traffic go by. For our furry clients that may need to go to the bathroom we have a yard they can use
We have several shampoos for most skin conditions t

o help with scratching, dry skin, fleas or even just a smell good bath. The grooming process starts with a rough cut. This is where we brush out any tangles or shave any mats off, clip and file the nails, pluck or clean the ears,
clean the pads and sanitary areas. Next we move to the bath where all of our clients get a cleaning bath, then either a medicated or smell good bath. If we find fleas
they get a flea bath then a smell good bath. Sometimes extra dirty pets get three or four baths. Now its off to get dry. We will see if they will tolerate the high powered dryer and if they are thick coated or curly this dryer blows the curls out or all the thick coat out. If they don't like this then we use either a hand held dryer or sometimes a cage dryer. When we clip or shave any hair we use a clipper vac which give
Stop in as a very precise cut. We try to make sure they don't leave with a lot of loose hair on them. After their spa session is over they can be spritzed with one of our several colognes to help keep them smelling just washed for several days. We also offer a bandana,
collar bows or hair bows. We carry several holistic pet foods. All of them are corn, wheat and soy free. Some are even grain free. We have samples of most of them so you can try before you buy. Some of the brands are Fromm, Evo, and Zignature just to name a few.

I donā€™t post much on here like I should. Iā€™m gonna be pretty blunt not to hurt feelings but to try to get some help. But our shelter is in need of some donations to help with their vet bills. The vet bills for all the animals that have been found running loose that they have taken in is pretty high. The shelter is a much needed place, otherwise that dog that just got hit on the side of the road, that has a few non life threatening injuries and the owners donā€™t step up because chances are they were tired of him and threw him out is just gonna lay there and suffer or be put down. But our shelter has stepped up and he is now in the hands of the vet because our shelter took him in and is taking care of it. All animals are vetted before being adopted out which the adoption fee would cover the basic shots and such. But the injured or sick but not deathly sick it doesnā€™t put much of a dent in. The tag money does not go to the shelter that pays the wages of the dog warden like or dislike thatā€™s how it is. They get very little help from Van Wert. The money they make is from fund raisers and some donations. So if by any chance you can possibly do it please consider donating to them. Or Iā€™m sure you can donate directly to the vet if you would rather do so. But please consider helping them!

This little guy needs a new home. His owner passed away and unfortunately the gentleman that has him currently can not handle him, and his 2 dogs. He is almost a yr old. I believe a terrier mix but not 100 percent sure. He has a great temperament, good for bath and the velocity dryer, nail trim and file. Used to being groomed every 4 wks. I am the only one that has done him. He does have alot of energy and would do best with a fenced in yard or a run cable to burn some energy. He has not been neutered yet. There is a rehoming fee to insure he is going to a good home.

This is something everyone needs to remember, just because you registered your dog on line as a service dog doesn't mean it is a service dog until it has been trained. I have groomed two that were registered on line as service dogs that were very dangerous, and the only training they had was by their owners.

I see SO MANY ā€œservice dogsā€ that are untrained, disruptive pets in a vest, simply because the owner does not want to leave the dog at home.

Not only are those owners being unethical and dishonest, they could potentially disrupt the work of an actual task-trained service dog, or even cause that dog to lose thousands of dollars and months or years or training with a bad interaction.

***************

Service Dogs are more than just any dog wearing a vest purchased online.

If your dog has not been specifically obedience and task trained and you do not have an ADA qualifying disability, then your dog does NOT fall under the protection of ADA law.

ESA (Emotional Support Animals) are NOT Service Dogs and fall under the guidance of the Fair Housing and Air Carrier acts and are welcome in your home with proper documentation and authorization.

Pets are NOT Service Dogs.

Puppies are NOT Service Dogs.

Dogs riding in grocery carts are NOT Service Dogs.

Buying an online "certificate" that your dog is a Service Dog, does NOT make it a Service Dog.

Dogs off leash and out of the control of their owner, are NOT Service Dogs.

Dogs trained for protection are NOT Service Dogs

Representing your dog to a business as a Service Dog and LYING, is FRAUD.

Educate yourself, do it well and do it right if you need a legitimate Service Dog!

This is so very true. If they get wet dry and brush them. Most importantly though if you think you have them brushed out try to run a comb through them from the base of the skin out to the ends of the hair. If you want your doodle in a longer cut this is so very important, they need brushed almost daily if their coats are very tightly curled. If you don't want to pay the 80.00 plus grooming costs and don't have time to brush regularly keep them in a short cut.

Sharing because I see SO many people getting Doodle puppies. PLEASE EDUCATE YOURSELF! This breed is the result of amazing marketing, they are not by any means an "easy breed" to maintain.

The perfect photo (shared from another groomer) to show how matting happens at the base (or at the skin). So many doodle owners are saddened to hear the only thing I can do with their pups coat is a shave because they thought brushing the top coat was enough. By looking at this dog, you may not see the knots and you may not feel them as you would a knot on the ends of the fur but once it starts its very difficult/ impossible to brush/COMB out... Not to mention it would be cruel to put the dog through. A quick once over will not work for these guys if you want them in a fuzzy coat. You really need to sit down with a metal comb and make sure you can get it through the entire body a couple times a week.

Often times I feel like owners don't believe groomers when they say the dogs has to be clipped. I always hear "I know he/she is matted, but leave as much as you can"... this photo shows, the only way to get UNDER the matting is nothing left.
I promise you, I'd rather not clip your baby naked either! I also don't want to hurt my reputation when the clients go around complaining about how the last groomer "scalped" their dog....But doodles are easily one of the highest maintenance dogs in reference to their coats. The combination of the soft coat of a golden, or aussie, or newf, or wheaten, or whatever they are mixing poodles with these days is a coat that is SO prone to matting. And even more so are the new "double doodles" that i like to call "double maintenance".

I even find some doodles on a regular schedule still need to be clipped once or twice a year (maybe not shaved, but maybe teddy bear length for a fresh start) because after all of the brushing and de-matting, the damaged coat seems to become even MORE likely to matt.
If you like a fluffy pup, you probably need to consider no more than 3-5 week intervals between grooming and set aside time for regular COMBING at home.

Please know, if you bathe your doodle you really need to blow dry and brush out right after. Moisture, be it a bath, rain, swimming, snow etc are all going to amplify matting. And if you know your dog is already matted-- bathing is only going to make it worse! Brush out BEFORE the bath.

AND!!!!! "breeders" who say they can't/shouldnt be clipped and OR not to give them a hair cut until they are 1 year are out of their minds and setting you up for a SAD SAD SAD day when you finally take your pup to the groomer.

Just an fyi: cat groom prices will be going up unless I tell you otherwise. Some of my cat clients seem to think that cat grooms should take the same amount of time as a dog groom. Unfortunately unless they are sedated, which still doesn't always work as planned, they still take a while. I cant schedule any dogs that like to bark the whole time they are here on cat groom days, as it makes the cat uncomfortable. Cats don't understand they have to stand and not curl into a ball on the table. They do not care for baths but tolerate them most times. Forget using the hand dryer on them they most all need cage dried which takes longer plus their tummys don't get dry this way. I do not require you to sedate your cat, I work with the animal to get it done. Sedating your pet every 6 to 8 wks in my opinion is not healthy. The time it takes to do a cat I can do 2.5 small dogs. No matter how good the cat they still have their limits and sometimes I have to put them in a kennel and let them chill for a bit before starting again. Sorry if I have offended anyone but I am limited when it comes to cat grooming appointments and I can not just schedule a cat groom and stand and do nothing while it's drying.
