Let’s talk WHIPS.

95% of you… (including yours truly!) are/will be faster… if you hang your whip back up in your trailer.

It’s a distraction in most instances.

It takes focus away from your riding.

When you sit up to whip one, you are by default asking your horse to slow down.

Instead, focus on hitting your spots. Work with your horse and stay out of the way. Smooth is fast, and if you can ride to your best effort, I promise you will see a change on the clock.

God’s protection was over us this past weekend. Marleigh Sidbury and I traveled to NY and back to pick up a filly. Five days before leaving the truck wouldn’t start, Joey replaced both batteries and it was fine….God’s protection allowed this to happen at home and not on the road somewhere.

On the drive home we watched a tree fall across the interstate blocking all south bound traffic…we had just enough time to slow to a stop….a few seconds made the difference between the tree falling in front of us or landing on our truck…that was God’s protection.

GRATITUDE

Appreciating every run and being grateful even when the outcome is not ideal will help you get through the difficult times.

Barrel racing gets tougher every year. If you are only happy when you win 1st place you are likely to have some disappointing times.

Be fair to your horse and their abilities along with your own talent and try before being disappointed in the results.

Some horses are winners and some are all they can be and it may not be enough to win. That doesn’t mean they didn’t give you their heart every trip down the alley.

Thank them for their effort. Make them feel special—like they are winners—and you may see the results start to shift.

Faith Friday

Joey and I ate supper at a Hwy 55 the other night. I had not been to one years and noticed the “yn” sign….neither Joey or I knew what it stood for so we asked our waitress. She replied “Oh, it stands for love your neighbor. I don’t know where it comes from but that’s what they told us it stands for.”

I said “It comes from the Bible. Jesus commanded all of us to love your neighbor as yourself.”

She reacted with so much enthusiasm and said “Oh, really! I’m so glad you told me that I had no idea where it came from.”

When we left I was worried I should have said more but God puts us where we need to be, at the right time, with the right words. I was so glad to be used in that moment even if in a very small way.

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thanful for a riding arena with footing that can hold a lot of rain. It is rare for there to be a day I consider it too muddy to ride.
